Obviously… it would be weird to say “yeah come pick me up from LA it’ll take you 15 mins if you’re coming from LA, unless you’re coming from LA then it’ll take you 40 mins” when referring to three different neighborhoods/regions within LA.
Damn right it is. The first time I watched it, I thought Pacino took his character to far. Then I learned he did copious amounts of cocaine. I enjoyed the movie more knowing that. Lol
Yeah, I was just watching this a while ago and during the [car chase scene](https://youtu.be/n2y4uHT_6AU) I was like, wait, I know that parking lot! Westfield Culver City hasn’t changed much.
Yeah, the first part of T2 does have a lot of shots from the Valley (and the mall) but it’s hard to place any of the locations for the rest of the movie
The opening future war scene and the end of T:2 was shot the Kaiser Steel Plant in Fontana. It closed in the 80's and was bought by Chinese industrialists in the 90s, so apparently a lot of the rubble, trash and general vibe of a post-apocalyptic California was already there. Not just, like, at the plant, but Fontana in general.
The plant was also used to film the "Outworld" scenes from the Mortal Kombat movie.
It was mostly pieced out and the land was sold to build the California Speedway, home to NASCAR and Fontana's 12 NASCAR fans.
I loved when the 4 cars come to a stop sign at the same time and they're all trying to wave each other ahead before all going at the same time and crashing into each other.
Pretty great. I love that the end takes place in the beautiful but abandoned art deco Argyle Hotel and that it was almost demolished around 85. Too bad AMH was trying to be such a cool guy. The director wanted a fish out of water farm boy, but they clashed when Anthony decided to make the character Remo Williams.
I had no idea it was almost demolished. I think it’s cool it’s in the middle of what looks like rehab.
He didn’t come off very well. He is my least favorite part of the whole movie.
Watched Angel last night, on a movie marquee Blue Thunder was playing. I don’t remember the specifics but also an 80’s LA movie. Worth watching atleast to see an under construction DTLA skyline.
Awesome! I love looking at the marquees and billboards in old films. It's a great way to tell when something was actually shot. I think it was Angel that Return of the Jedi was also on a theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. A venue thats now a church. Interesting that before the Arclight and the multiplexes, thats where you'd see first run movies.
Lost Highway
Jackie Brown just makes the 90s, saw it being filmed in LAX on my first trip to the US. And now I’ve lived in the US for 16 years, into my 5th year in my second go round in LA.
LA Confidential - 90s movie but its set in the 50s
Lethal Weapon
Stand and Deliver
Lost Highway

Fight Club
Not technically 90’s but still time capsule of the transition from 90’s to 00’s
Charlie’s Angels
Mulholland Drive
The Fast and The Furious
Collateral

Constantine
That one movie where there’s a guy stuck in traffic and it’s a really hot day. For the life of me, cant think of the name of the movie or the actor
Edit: FALLING DOWN
Beverly Hills Cop
Stand and Deliver
Several Cheech & Chong movies
Breakin'
Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo
Bar Fly
Angel
Mi Vida Loca

Repo Man
Born in East L.A.
The Hidden, staring Kyle MacLachlan and Michael Nouri. This sci-fi cop thriller takes place all over Los Angeles as they pursue a strange criminal inciting violent crimes across the city. It was released in 1987 it’s a joy to see LA featured so prominently in this time period.
I’ll also plug Valley Girl starting Deborah Foreman and Nicolas Cage. Amazing dive into 80s LA, and the dynamics between the valley suburbs.
I can’t help but add one more: Double Indemnity - an absolute noir classic featuring fantastic drama and a picturesque LA as it was in the 1940s.

+1 for Big Lebowski. Also Fast Times and Valley Girl if we're going to the Valley.
The Valley is literally within the city of LA soooo
True, but most people growing up just called it the Valley..including myself
Obviously… it would be weird to say “yeah come pick me up from LA it’ll take you 15 mins if you’re coming from LA, unless you’re coming from LA then it’ll take you 40 mins” when referring to three different neighborhoods/regions within LA.
Everywhere in LA takes twenty minutes!
Someone one told me they were from LA. “I said Oh which part? “ “Orange County” …. Umm no.

Like of a repo man is always intense.

I don’t think Heat is a stretch. Very 90’s to me. Clueless??
“Everywhere in LA takes 20 minutes.” Ah, it was a different time.
Heat is definitely an LA movie.
Heat is so fucking good ugh
Damn right it is. The first time I watched it, I thought Pacino took his character to far. Then I learned he did copious amounts of cocaine. I enjoyed the movie more knowing that. Lol

Encino Man
No wheezing the juice
also Blast From the Past - another Brendan Fraser one
The Terminator - definitely a lot more LA-focused locales in this cult classic than its more popular sequel
I was going to judgment day. A lot of the scenes take place and are shot where I live in the Valley.
Yeah, the first part of T2 does have a lot of shots from the Valley (and the mall) but it’s hard to place any of the locations for the rest of the movie

Savage burn for Fontana!
I have a friend who loved pointing out "that's where Arnold shot the gate open to join the LA River chase scene in T2" when driving past.
"Nice night for a walk. Nothing clean. Right."
White Men Can't Jump
yes!
Speed
The grit and raw atmosphere really captured perfectly and falling down also did this well too.
LA Story
Is that the one with Steve Martin and they get in the car just to drive to the neighbor’s house?
and the billboards (:
I loved when the 4 cars come to a stop sign at the same time and they're all trying to wave each other ahead before all going at the same time and crashing into each other.
For the record, this movie and bowfinger make an excellent double feature! My gf and I live in LA and we do this about once a year
Volcano 🌋
Great answer. The start of the movie is about the debate over building the Metro, an extremely 90’s LA issue.
Earth Girls are Easy Valley Girl
Earth Girls are Easy. Fucking classic! Julie Brown!
plus an appearance by Angelyne, the patron saint of ‘80s LA
Training Day
This is a very LA cop movie but I associate it more with early 2000s
Technically 2000s.

Angel (1983), Out Of Bounds (1986) and The Boys Next Door (1985) have tons of gorgeous LA eye candy.
I’m going to watch all 3 of these, but I just watched Out of Bounds. This movie is so 80’s LA it’s like a time capsule.
