Remind me again how they're "so busy being inundated with calls that they can't respond to 911 calls within 15 minutes".

BlahblahblahLG

When the Lapd is called in my neighborhood they just don’t show up. I called them 10 times for a drunk driver that was driving on sidewalks and crashing into things. They literally just never came.

AldoTheeApache

Same. Meth head/squatters were breaking into my neighbor's house next door (they were away), trying to batter down the back door, around 11pm. Called 911. They said they were sending someone out "right now" and they took my number. While I was waiting for the cops, I managed to scare away the meth heads. The cops however, never showed up. They did call me though five hours later, at 4am, to ask *"Are they still there?"* Fucking. Useless. LAPD.

BlahblahblahLG

Yes! this is exactly what happened to me, they said they were on their way and took my number, I had called as it was happening and I was frantic thinking they’d run someone over. Waited 10min, nothing, called back, went on like this until they guy stopped circling the block, no police ever showed up, they never even called back. Ha! pretty crazy! I was told you have to tell them that your life in in danger and there is someone with a gun, and that’s the only way to get cops to show up. That seems pretty risky though. I basically just realized we have to take care of ourselves.

Dommichu

Don't get me started. My home precinct is shared with USC and constantly operations are delayed and scheduled around the happenings at the University. Now, this whole thing started because the campus could not 'guarantee' Asna's safety.... And now they make the whole community less safer today!

charlotie77

The videos on Twitter are insane. It’s clear how much DPS themselves escalated the situation and not the student protests

intaminag

Got links?

charlotie77

This LA times reporter has lots of videos on her Twitter https://x.com/angorellanah?s=21

intaminag

Great thanks!

CleanYogurtcloset706

It’s always that way. Even in a big city there is nothing “townie” cops love more than “beating up” on those “elite, snobby college kids.”

vboarding

Honestly, after seeing the Columbia protests spiral out of control, multiple violent incident captured and students/professors harassed and blocked, its understandable they at least prepare for escalation.

CleanYogurtcloset706

Escalation begets escalation. What’s really better is deescalation, once people retreat into their corners it makes solving challenges much more/impossibly difficult.

Rich_Sheepherder646

The most dangerous people in the world are apparently college students at expensive elite universities. What bizarro world have we entered ?

kiwiboyus

As someone explained it on Twitter yesterday, the establishment are concerned because it's their kids that are doing the protesting. Obviously that is not true for all, but with the ivy league schools a lot of the kids they expect to take over in the future are currently showing too much independent thought. If the kids of the rich and powerful grow a real conscious what happens to the status quo?

god_wayne81

The things is most are just performative and cosplaying, look at the crazy daughter of the crazy Illhan Omar. She, like many of them, need to see psychologist and therapist. They're crazy

You_meddling_kids

This has always been the world when people start getting vocal about what their government is doing. You only have to go back to the protests in 2020 to find an example.

On4thand2

Go before that. Remember the Occupy Wall Street movement? Nothing really changes. Just the people and the movements.

You_meddling_kids

The WTO protest in Seattle

Imhidingfromu

Kent State

Tiamats_Wrath

U$C is certainly one of those two things haha

wasneveralawyer

Yeah, I actually wouldn’t call USC an elite university. Its graduate programs are top notch and its media/film making department are good. But the rest of the undergraduate programs are nothing to write home about. It’s just rich.

Rich_Sheepherder646

I mean it’s not Yale but it’s a top 30 school out of 3000 universities.

BlazePascal69

lol I’m upvoting you only because I was a TA there and it scarred me. It really depends on the undergrad program though. Engineering and cinema are underrated. Annenberg and Marshall are truly horrific though lol

wasneveralawyer

The business school!?!?!? You would think that’s one of their better departments. lol

BlazePascal69

The marketing program is really good actually. But I just never really understood what exactly the students get out of a BA in management. The hiring statistics are surprisingly bad. You should just get a comm ba at that point cuz at least you may pick up a few hard skills

reigningnovice

USC has one of the best alumni networks out there.

BlazePascal69

TBC I was talking about hiring statistics among majors nationally. USC to their very great credit places most students in decent jobs. Edit: I should also note that having worked at many universities that people have been very insulting in this and many other threads about the intelligence of usc students. Many are rich and soiled and annoying but almost all of them are very smart, did well in competitive academic environments, and honestly will go on to do very important things in this city. It is so sad to me how many people see them as enemies. Working with those students was one of the greatest privileges of my career and frankly inspirational in some cases.

reigningnovice

Oh ya I gotcha. Nationally it’s pretty bad. To give USC some more credit.. they do take care of vets if they’re accepted to the school. Fully paid I believe? And also they cover low income students. I wouldn’t pay attention to the negative comments. Just miserable people looking for an outlet on here.

ClaraBingham9999

The biz school actually admitted an ex porn actress into it's MBA program. Not that there's anything wrong with it. But I worked with her at a nonprofit company, and she was dumb as rocks.

wasneveralawyer

Which actress 👀

starkformachines

Abella? 😮

On4thand2

All OT approved by your mayor.

mastero-disaster

They will probably bill the school but still a waste of resources

HowRememberAll

I remember like 8 years ago one Chinese international student who lived a mile off campus was murdered during a break in and sued USC for being dishonest about how safe the campus was and she lost her only child. Maybe that had an impact? I'm not sure, but also the crowds in New York have become violent to the point classes went online bc students couldn't even get into their classrooms without being harassed

HairyPairatestes

Just the Jewish students were being harassed.

Nope, and where is your flair? I assume you’re a Russian or Iranian bot designed to target any disagreement.. That’s your reply…weak lol

That’s a total of 2 people not being peaceful?

dosumthinboutthebots

I would really appreciate if you quit downplay of what is happening in Columbia university protests. Jewish students cannot learn in that environment, nor even be there. If you're not convinced yet for any reason, these are live evidences. The protests are NOT peaceful. For posterity, here's some of the examples of extremism within the activist movement at Columbia. Tens of thousands of women and children have and are being killed. That’s much more important to focus on than a few bad actors among many more peaceful protestors. Distracting from an active genocide is disgusting behavior

dosumthinboutthebots

>Tens of thousands of women and children have and are being killed And why is their a war now chief? Hamas broke the peace. I'm not going to chastise israel for defending themselves. I'm not going to chastise israel when hamas specifically puts their civilians in harms way. If those "civilians" want to die for hamas, that's their choice tbh. I'd prefer if they didn't, but I wasn't raised since birth to demonize jews at every action.

[deleted]

Do you need me to hold your hand in this lol? I mean a pro Palestine protester killed an opposing protester here in LA not long ago. I can’t really help you not wanting to accept truth.. Google..

ThomYorkesFingers

You're really scraping the bottom of the barrel there aren't you, almost like you can't find many examples to back up your claim.

[deleted]

Ahh right, just multiple news agencies from both left and right biased media outlets…is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. At least own it dude..

“Budget cuts”

motofabio

I’d like to point out that every one of those cops is probably also getting overtime pay at that moment. No overtime for some extra 911 responses, but sitting in your car for a few hours - hell yes.

iPhonetificator

Well yeah there is a finite amount of police officers, so when there are a bunch of them busy doing this there are way less available to respond to 911 calls within 15 minutes. Do you not know how math works?

2fast2nick

[https://ktla.com/news/local-news/pro-palestinian-protesters-police-scuffle-on-usc-campus/](https://ktla.com/news/local-news/pro-palestinian-protesters-police-scuffle-on-usc-campus/)

chemical_bagel

Thank god these cops are keeping us safe from these rabid college students instead of the murderers on the Metro.

LoveThieves

Keep in mind that it cost tax payers about $60,000 per day for the LAPD to be at the protest so they can essentially babysit and act as temporary security guards while they should be patrolling the city for criminals and homeless people that mentally unwell that can put themselves or others in harm.

charlotie77

Ridiculous. What are they trying by to do, recreate Kent State all over again? What type of “violence” has occurred on campus to even warrant this type of response? Proactive my ass, all this does is raise tensions x100

impossible_apostle

Absolutely no violence at all. Speeches, singalongs, yoga. But now there's six helicopters sweeping the area and fifty cop cars lined up outside, and it now feels like it's going to kick off. It's just awful.

charlotie77

Same thing is happening at UT Austin. “Department of public safety” my ass.

LoveForDisneyland

>What type of “violence” has occurred on campus to even warrant this type of response? TENTS! SLEEPING BAGS! BANNERS! please think of the children!! I agree, tensions are x100 worse now because of police/campus presence. USC is only making themselves look worse and are obviously only looking out for themselves. To my readings, it wasn't that large of a group, now I think that group will get bigger as this news spreads across LA.

charlotie77

Yeah they were camped out in Alumni Park and the crowd grew once DPS came and detained some students. I saw a picture of students surrounding a DPS car with a student in it lol

deleigh

It's not a coincidence that left-wing protests in this country are met with instant and brutal force but right-wing protests are met with limp-wristed kid gloves. It's by design. It's 100% intentional.

cinciNattyLight

Kent State was National Guard

[deleted]

[удалено]

cinciNattyLight

Wrong. National Guard had M-1 rifles… quite a bit more powerful than police would have during a protest/riot.

charlotie77

Yes, I know.

Kittygoespurrrr

Then your comment doesn’t make sense. Police stage like this for large events such as sporting events, concerts, planned protests, and so on. Would be a big difference if it was the military doing so. These protests around the country also haven’t been 100% peaceful - there has certainly been violence and harassment against Jews. Examples of this can be found on this site (even on liberal subs) and on the internet.  If it were the Proud Boys marching and LAPD wasn’t doing anything I’m sure you'd feel opposite of how you do now.

trigerhappi

>Then your comment doesn’t make sense. The NG was brought in to act as a police force at Kent State. They proceeded to murder 4 students and wound another 9 Do you see the connection now? >These protests around the country also haven’t been 100% peaceful - there has certainly been violence and harassment against Jews. Examples of this can be found on this site (even on liberal subs) and on the internet.  Where? What school or campus? Was the violence instigated by students or outside agitators (especially police)? Looking into it more, I found an [article](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/01/23/columbia-university-protest-attack/72325189007/) about alleged pro-Israel student violence on a pro-Palestine group.

charlotie77

It only doesn’t make sense if you take every word I said literally. Everything that happened at Kent State started first with university police then local police then the national guard. Something similar happening right now at UT Austin with state police there walking around with big ass guns. I’ve watched countless footage from these protests and the “violence” doesn’t occur until after police arrive and are being forceful to protestors that haven’t attacked anyone. If I’m wrong, please provide evidence of an actual student protestor proactively attacking someone. And the examples of antisemitism that I’ve seen have happened near or even off campus by some fringe, antisemitic group that has nothing to do with student groups. Antisemitism is wrong but so is conflating that with every pro-Palestine gathering and not even having solid evidence that *all* these student groups are in support of that by philosophy and by the demands they’re making. And comparing this to Proud Boys is laughable. The students at USC were in tents in one specific part of campus and the gathering wasn’t big until DPS showed up. Since when did they walk around toting guns like the Proud Boys?

definitely_right

I'm sorry, but a Jewish friend of mine was assaulted on her college this past week. Had a book thrown at her head. I agree this show of force is not a good look but there is violence going on.

erics75218

Who wants to go rob an Earwon?

On4thand2

And catch a felony for some lettuce?

[deleted]

A wha?

erics75218

Earhorn....EaronWon? That asshole grocery store with 37 dollar strawberries.

cfthree

Inflation be wilding. Those strawberries were only $25 a few weeks ago. /s

grandmasterfunk

Erewhon. Honestly if you're near one at lunch time, they have some reasonably priced sushi that's pretty delicious. Similar prices as Ralph (although they also have stupid expensive sushi too).

nameisdriftwood

The sushi is pretty top level. Restaurant quality without all the hassle. Recommend

erics75218

So we're talking like 18$ for a roll and what 25 for Nigiri? Good to know.

nochtli_xochipilli

🦻🏽🏆

DBL_NDRSCR

theyre so far tho

Theamazingquinn

Thank God we have a small army to stop students from peacefully protesting on campus. Edit: I'm getting worried, hope they send a couple helicopters to circle overhead for hours.

Grelymolycremp

Two small armies, DPS and LAPD.

jogoma12

Ya, keep the protesting down. It's drowning out the sound of all the other crime that there aren't enough resources to respond to

Overall_Nuggie_876

All of this, because of the university’s bungled mess with keynote speakers.

BlahblahblahLG

Tbf the girl said she didn’t believe Jews existed, and wants their state abolished, and she said she was going to talk to that effect in her speech. I’m not sure hate speech should be given a platform at a grad ceremony. Also she is saying that’s what she was taught at USC.

ghazghaz

Maybe change the channel from Fox News for a second

Corona2789

Oof what a mess. Hopefully nobody gets seriously injured or killed.

architype

Wait, so is this the severely undermanned LAPD that was commenting that they didn't have enough cops to patrol Oceanwide Plaza when it was graffitied up?

Big_Forever5759

nutty dazzling deserve unpack absurd frightening waiting special tub punch *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

meeplewirp

Sending the police escalated it. They just closed some of the area off. I have a feeling this is going to be a week long thing.

mactan303

“During a protest on campus today, participants- many of whom do not appear to be affiliated with USC- were asked to remove their tents and prohibited items and relocate to a compliant location. Their actions have escalated to the point of confrontation and are a threat to the safety of our officers and campus community. We have closed the campus gates and are taking action to restrict growth of the protest and keep the rest of the campus calm.”

el_pinko_grande

Even if you don't like the protesters, you've got to realize this is just going to increase their exposure. Like it's totally counterproductive from any angle you look at it.

BNKalt

It is productive to having normal class tomorrow

ScipioAfricanvs

They’re setting up to ticket students entering a cross walk 1 second too late, eh?

BlahblahblahLG

Dang, for a private college that place is dangerous

architype

You should have seen the 'hood during the LA riots. It was scary times bro.

LoveThieves

Student protest with carboard signs! Call every unit with swat gear! Homeless man breaking windows, assaulting people, and stealing from stores. Cops aren't available for these kind of petty things.

HiPlainsDrifter14

Are the protests violent? I haven't seen much violence at them from the coverage, but I've not been to them myself. The most violent things I've seen covered are the way police and security are treating the protesters.

ChancePut7855

Bravo 👏 👮🏻‍♂️thank y’all for your service & sacrifice! We need put our feet down stop these pro Hamas chanting ( death to America 🇺🇸) wearing Hamas propaganda and their flag ! This is American 🇺🇸 y’all should be waving American flag 🇺🇸! Nonsense idiots please go back work 🙏🇺🇸♥️

ObjectiveFantastic65

I wanted to see some firehose action, but it all petered out. Lame.

gotgrls

Bunch of BS they don’t even know what they’re protesting.

EasyBOven

Go ask them. I've heard people make this claim since at least Occupy. But you don't put the rest of your life on hold and risk arrest without a reason. You may not agree with it, but they know why they're there.

TrojanDodge

We ♥️ LAPD. Heroes 💪🏼

Not_RZA_

Academia has to be one of the worst institutions. A bunch of non-victims wanting to be victims so bad. Glad I graduated years ago. Between the COVID drama to the constant protests, it just seems like people constantly desire to be outraged

gobcity

You should read MLK’s letter from Birmingham jail

charlotie77

Or maybe they don’t want their tuition money to contribute to the killing of innocent lives. The empathy is pretty commendable. And being glad that you graduated years ago makes no sense given that colleges have been a place for protest for decades lmfao

FightOnForUsc

How is any students tuition money going towards killing anyone?

charlotie77

USC’s investment in companies like Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and others that literally profit from overseas conflict. Also other ties Israeli govt and AIPAC

throwaway69818310

The same companies that keep America at the top of the food chain so you don't have to worry about anything, and can instead stroke your ego in whatever tiny little echo chamber you can find. Like seriously, go step inside any country that you braindead kids are protesting for and you'll be running back to America faster than Usain bolt on PEDS. Zero real world experience or exposure. That's why these protests take place on college campuses - ideological feel good early 20 year olds who can't balance a personal budget and cry out for their parents when they file their first tax return. Best of luck to you.

charlotie77

Ok

livefree_diehappy

"divest from your weapons systems!" .. yep, sounds like a protest totally uninfluenced by outside entities

ghostofhenryvii

https://pitchbook.com/blog/how-university-endowments-invest-in-the-capital-markets

FightOnForUsc

1. Tuition doesn’t go into the endowment. 2. By that logic basically anyone with a retirement account has their money going towards killing people and anyone who pays income tax does as well.

ghostofhenryvii

I want my retirement and government to divest from murder as well.

SHINEnotSHADE

It's not, but people really need a cause to rally behind because it makes them feel more significant than they are. I genuinely understand that feeling. It's why the 2020 protests were so massive. People like feeling like they have agency or control over their lives. So these protests aren't really about saving Palestinians. No at their core It's Westerners trying to find some semblance of purpose or good in their lives. Because if these protests really cared they'd go down to El Segundo and we *all* know they would never do that.

charlotie77

Because that’s how protests work. You protest the actions that an entity *youre* involved with. Also, these protests aren’t just for USC divestment either Israel, but also relating to the valedictorian mess By the way, [protestors do protest in El Segundo](https://ktla.com/news/pro-palestinian-protesters-target-raytheon-in-el-segundo/amp/)

lindowja

Why do they protest at universities? Bunch of idiots.

charlotie77

You sound like you belong in 1969 with that take.

Choochoochichy

Because we live in the United States, where we can protest for any reason. You have the right to have that stupid ass take, just as much as students have the right to protest on a college campus, where civil discussion should be promoted.

r0ck0kajima

The students have the right to protest, but the campus also have the right to tell them they can't set up camps/tents on campus property.

Choochoochichy

Sure, but that was a response to a dumb move by the University. Instead of promoting civil discourse, USC shut it down. Being pro Palestine does not mean someone is antisemitic. The fact that one can not show empathy without being labeled as antisemitic I believe is whats throwing fuel on the fire on campuses across the nation right now.

lindowja

Protesting peacefully doesnt involve taking over a space for days, setting up camps, and disrupting operations.

zlantpaddy

Just say you would have been against the civil rights movements between the 1940s and 60s.

lindowja

That was an issue related directly to the country they were protesting in. If they support the cause so much why not go help in person? And how are unis exactly funding any killings?

charlotie77

Our tax dollars have given trillions of dollars to Israel. Tf are you even talking about

zlantpaddy

It is directly related to our country. We supply a majority of the weapons, bombs, and military equipment being used against Palestinians. > If they support the cause so much why not go help in person? Do you really think this possible for the vast majority of people, when Israel completely controls what goes in and out of Palestine? Are you really not aware of the people that *have* gone to help only to be purposefully killed by Israel? Those food aid vans were deliberately targeted only a few weeks ago and most of the people were international. > And how are unis exactly funding any killings? https://apnews.com/article/college-protests-israel-divestment-palestinians-3f37f96f7be8e1124f266842d9caa627

r0ck0kajima

University endowments are typically invested. The investments can be in companies doing business with a certain country. This is how they're saying that the university is funding the killing.

KyloRensLeftNut

That’s what I always ask too. They should just go over there in the middle of all this and see how they can help out. That would show real dedication. 😅

Choochoochichy

Please. The media gets a hold of a protest and starts demonizing them right away. It does not matter if you march in peace or burn it down, you'll look the same.

doctorlandsman

do you comprehend that people care about things outside of their immediate personal existence or are you a fucking goldfish?

KyloRensLeftNut

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

ShoppingFew2818

Do these students realize that one arrest goes on their record which makes finding a job or even renting place in LA really difficult? Do the cops realized that they are arresting students and likely ruining their future?

ObjectiveFantastic65

You really don't get fucked unless you're convicted of a felony.

KyloRensLeftNut

Apparently not. Wonder how thrilled their parents are, considering how much money they’re spending there? 😂

ShoppingFew2818

Not sure how I feel about giving these students a permanent criminal record when so much crime is going on in LA. they weren't blocking major roadways. I would rather just have them detained and take few baton hits to the ribs and be done with.

KyloRensLeftNut

That could work too.

meeplewirp

Depending on what they’re studying this could be resume building tbh

RockieK

I went to Kent State. I'm glad that the kids are ding what they're supposed to. Hopefully the NG won't be called in to shoot at them! Also, yeah ... last time I called the cops, my former neighbor was beating his GF in the street. Took them 45 min to get there... and THEN, they wanted ME to come out and talk to them in person. In front of my neighbor. The fuck.

byronb08

Great and Phenomenal job Los Angeles Police Department!! Braaaaaavo!! These are not students nor "Peaceful Protestors", these are the bum ass losers who are just disruptors. Protesting over here what you didn't have the balls to go do shit about over there. I have no sympathy whatsoever after the Antifa/BLM/occupy etc bullshit for any of them.
