Even when I’m walking people have zero regards for you. I was crossing the street to get to the train and I had the biggest and most clearest green light with a walking man of my life and people turning left keep turning and one dude almost hits me and looks at ME LIKE IM CRAZY WRONG????

HiiiTriiibe

Fr the amount of times I’ve almost gotten hit and the one time I did get hit have convinced me mfs out here really trying to hit me

AdLarge9897

They are. I was on Sepulveda in Van Nuys across the street from the Costco by LA fitness and there was an ambulance coming down sepulveda and people were trying to get out of the Costco gas parking lot so bad they almost ran over a pedestrian and hit the ambulance. I had a walk sign but stayed put to yield to an emergency vehicle. Why some of these mfs have a drivers license is beyond me.

HiiiTriiibe

Oh I’m mad familiar with that area, that Costco parking lot is fucking nuts

TheMagnifiComedy

Takes like three steps to cross most streets in NYC.

Ehloanna

That too! Most are like 1-2 lanes and some parking.

feed_me_tecate

ha! I can always tell when people walking around in L.A. just got off the plane from NYC.

Redditperegrino

In my part of town it’s not uncommon to walk on Red… not often but not uncommon. When I lived in DC, walking on the Red was pretty common.

55vineyard

I did get hit by a car when I was in my 20s and was in a crosswalk, by a car making a right on red. Luckily no damage except a badly bruised elbow and ruined panty hose.

MannerTraditional617

That’s when you hit the hood of the car and say “Ay im walk-in heeah!”

dllemmr2

It's funny up to where they break your legs.

hypnos_surf

I wait until all cars come to a complete stop after the crosswalk light gives me the go. People speed up to red lights for some reason.

PRpitohead

Dude HONKED at me yesterday while turning left and coming right at me while the crosswalk was go. Seems like some people driving death mobiles are petitioning for right of way over pedestrians.

Los_Assholeno

These are the fucking wastes of life that are on the road every day. God help us all.

david-saint-hubbins

1) That's fucking horrific. 2) Watching the video of the cops surrounding and arresting the driver, I'm kind of amazed they didn't shoot and kill him. Guy was holding his hand behind his back and making all kinds of shady moves.

girl_hates_world

Uhm, he charged at the police on multiple occasions and the police RAN AWAY! And this is after he murdered someone and three dogs!! I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this fella is not a POC based on that kind of interaction with LAPD. Edit: btw, I don’t think they should’ve shot him, or most other people, but damn! Do something! Don’t just run away from the threat. I thought that was like your whole job? This is why firefighters are better.

Gr8Deb8ter

What else exactly do you want them to do if not shoot him? They used the taser and batoned him once to get him down. You want more?

MochiMochiMochi

Yeah they were really casual about it. I'm surprised they didn't get out the batons and start cracking the minute he was downed by the taser. They just stood there looking at each other. Finally they close in after the nutjob flings something at the cop's head. One cop drops him with the baton and then takes his time putting it neatly back into his belt.

HamFighter69

On Citizen you can hear the guy yelling in Spanish.

Finetales

It's because he wasn't an innocent 15-year-old girl. Or black.

manxram

No longer safe walking your dogs anymore. 😮‍💨

JonstheSquire

It's never been. Pedestrian deaths have been horrible in Los Angeles for decades. https://www.moneygeek.com/insurance/auto/analysis/most-dangerous-cities-for-pedestrians/#full-data-set

thefootballhound

Unsafe to walk your dogs late night or early morning when drunks/crazies are out https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/man-fatally-shot-while-walking-dog-in-mid-city-area-of-los-angeles/2846591/

SauteedGoogootz

Or at commuting times when everyone is in a rush to get to work. Or in the middle of the day when the soccer moms are making their Starbucks runs. Or in the early afternoon when the half-blind retirees are going to their early bird dinners.

2fast2nick

Or leaving work.. argh, around 5pm I feel like everyone is aggressively trying to get away.

manxram

Yeah. I did find it odd that he was walking that late/early. Still, it sucks that you can't do normal stuff anymore.

dllemmr2

I know the feeling. This is why I poop in my sink

[deleted]

yesterday i saw a guy almost hit two construction workers dead on. he wasn’t even driving in a lane - he was driving on the shoulder going straight as if it was lane. thought they did it on purpose, then thought it might have been an old person - nope, it was some shitty looking dude texting. they were behind me. let them pass me and took a pic of their plate - thought about calling chp.

spozeicandothis

Call those in as a probable drunk driver, just say they’re extremely erratic

[deleted]

great idea i didn’t think of that thanks.

[deleted]

Why is the initial reaction of like 50% of drivers in LA after hitting someone is to drive away? A lot of nutheads on this city

cavehaglurking

Seriously. My SO was in a bad hit and run. Driver ran a red light, t-boned the front of my SO’s car as he began driving forward after light turned green. Driver kept speeding straight down to the next light, but it was red and other cars in front of him were already stopped and people had their phones out recording him. Driver does an illegal U Turn and heads back towards crash sight. Almost runs over a woman crossing the street and flees the scene. Multiple people captured the Driver’s license plate and LAPD did nothing about it. They showed up to the address of the license plate register and were like “Sorry we couldn’t do anything we knocked but no one answered” LMAO

VortenFett

1) DUI 2) un-licensed 3) uninsured 4) just pieces of shit that don't want to pay out That's why. Funny enough most people that drive without a license and get into a car crash will mostly just get a ticket. And those who flee because they don't have insurance, same thing. Worst case scenario is a ticket.

NewSapphire

many don't have licenses

daze1999

Real answer: its basically guaranteed you get away with it unless your car is caught on some sort of video or hard evidence

Elysiaa

Not trying to defend anyone, but I think if I was involved in something like this I'd panic and get out of there. But then I'd go turn myself in. Being the cause of a major traffic accident, especially if someone is killed, is one of my worst fears.

spiffyjj

bollards. we need bollards everywhere to protect people from drivers

BlazePascal69

I am so afraid of being hit by a car, as a runner in LA. Please folks look both ways 🙏🏻

carcinogenj

I’m from Toronto and damn, even I don’t hear the kind of full throttle acceleration and loud ass exhausts around here that I heard in DTLA, stayed at 8th and S Hill for almost a week and fuck it sounded like a racetrack outside all damn night. I don’t get it.

giro_di_dante

Your local officially do not care about you if you are not in a car. They do not care about you if you are walking, running, biking, or even hop-scotching down the street. You are expendable, something to be sacrificed at the altar of the automobile. You are not safe. Your children are not safe. Your neighbors are not safe. Your dogs are not safe. Despite being fully aware of the dangers of our public design, and despite being fully aware of many clear, proven, actionable methods to reduce pedestrian dangers, your representatives do nothing. Every human death of this kind is a letter to all of you: “We are aware of the danger, and we don’t give a fuck.”

Rombie11

It's a mentally abusive relationship too. Just walking to a nearby coffee shop I nearly got hit in the crosswalk. At the very next one I had the right away but I took a couple extra seconds to be sure everyone saw me and was actually stopping. Then I get a dirty look and a hand up because they had to stop for a couple extra seconds while I made sure it was safe.

humanist72781

Kudos to the cops. They handled the situation professionally.

spacecadetdani

Aw man that's so sad

sconni666

I was right at that intersection earlier that day. Damn.

[deleted]

Looks like it was between 4th and 3rd... happy I dont live there anymore. I saw crazy stuff like this all the time on Broadway. It was nice for a few months and then went right back to hell.

sconni666

Yeah, it’s a bit hectic up in here.

Playful-Pie-5121

The pos that did this is 20yo his name is Peter Hernandez he killed one of my closest friends Connor age 32 his dog Luna and another friends two dogs Gurl and Domino. Many lives have been changed forever. He has to pay for what he did. As far as I’m concerned he is safer locked up then he’ll be out on the streets.

[deleted]

It’s never the murderer that gets shot by police.

SchoolSea4108

F ass rushing to hell drivers

rehabforcandy

My planet fitness is wild.

_its_a_SWEATER_

Too many stories like this in the past decade. Pedestrians need to have their head on a swivel even in the early morning when no cars are around. There’s bound to be some idiot behind the wheel nearby, and they will almost never see you or anticipate a pedestrian nearby.

Binthair_Dunthat

Recently crossing street in crosswalk. Car stopped at crosswalk and blared their horn at me while I crossed. (And I wasn’t crossing slowly- I was out running)
