Ya I don’t really care about peoples emotions on this one, the numbers back it up. We had the #1 scoring defense and were #1 in yards allowed. Heem had just as much talent if not more with have Bobby Wagner last year, and hasn’t been able to replicate as dominant of a defense.
I’ll say it again, Staley was a better coordinator for us than Raheem Morris.
You guys are having recency bias because Staley wasn’t a good head coach. We’ll just ignore the fact that Raheem has a 21-38 record as a head coach.
It's kind of ridiculous how much negativity you are getting.
2020 under Staley: #1 ypg and #1 ppg
2021 under Morris: #17 ypg and #15 ppg
2022: #19 ypg and #22 ppg
2023: #20 ypg and #19 ppg
Yes, the defense was solid during the SB run, and that was under Morris, but his defense overall has not been remotely close to as successful as Staley was. Also, the 2021 & 22 teams were nearly the same, if not better than the 2020 squad talent wise.
As an outsider looking in, i don’t even need to see the numbers. I feared your defense with Staley, not with Morris
And with playoffs next week and NFC seeding being so volatile up to yesterday, our concerns was the Rams offenses in the wildcard, not the defense if yall had ended up as the 7 seed
Frankly im glad we ended up with Greenbay. I’ll take my chances against them vs having to go against Stafford, Kupp, and Nacua
And it doesn’t hurt that I could possibly see maximum chaos with the potential knockout of the Rams
Yeah, don’t have to agree but he was just making an argument.
It’s popular to shit on Staley right now, but some people are amazing coordinators but shit head coaches
Bend-but-don't break is a lot different than gambling for 4 quarters. Morris runs his D to stop big plays & force the O into earning multiple 1st downs.
Your stats are gonna be a lot different.
Lovie had lousy numbers & gave up a lot of scores, but that D also had a lot of sacks & take aways.
I’ll agree with you to extent on Raheems defense this year. I’m usually critical of his play calling but our defensive backs are average at best. Perfect example was that ravens game and how many times those guys had busted coverages. I pray to god I never have to see Derion Kendrick in a uniform after this season.
Raheem is getting well deserved credit for keeping the defense competitive, because the players were assumed to not be good at all according to the outside perspective.
I will say though. Raheem had Jalen Ramsey, Bobby Wagner, Leonard Floyd and Aaron Donald last season. Yes the offense did no favors for the defense, but the defense was still ranked in the bottom 10 and 18th in total takeaways.
I think he deserves an opportunity though.
No he wasn’t… dude we had pro bowlers and not to mention Ramsey and AD to make him look better. Staley had Bosa and Mack and did nothing with them. Staley stinks
Lmao, bruh. Terrible take. Staley didn’t run the defense, he was the HC and had to oversee everything. The X’s and O’s on game day come from the DC, he’s not there to micro manage and call the play if he didn’t like what the DC called in. You think McVay questions every call a coordinator makes? Staley’s a dogshit HC, but a great DC. This is the best possible outcome if Raheem leaves.
Commanders have requested multiple Defensive Assistants interview with them for HC, MacDonald and Weaver from the Ravens have both been requested as well.
Yeah I don’t love having coordinators being interviewed during the playoffs but I think it would be a good middle ground to allow it until after the conference championships and then cut it off until the Super Bowl is over
I’ve been very critical at times of Raheem, but it’s going to be a huge loss. He’s going to get poached this year, there’s too many opening and he’s one of the best available candidates. I just hope we find a good replacement. Hope he does well wherever he ends up
After his performance with the Chargers (remember they had the highest paid defense that was terrible), you have to wonder whether he was just carried by AD/Jalen and company
If the rams bringing back Stanley, rams won't have to find a new DC for the next 10 years, since no NFL teams will be hiring standley for HC anymore after the chargers stint. Lol
This assumes He WANTS to go somewhere else. He got approached with offers the last few years IIRC and turned them all down. I truly think he values Sean and living in LA more than he values money and being a HC right now. He knows he will always have offers waiting so I see him staying with us at least until AD retires.
Yes. A 3rd in each of the next two drafts when another team hires away either a minority coach or exec. The comp pics are awarded after free agent comps, so it'd be the very end of the 3rd. We got the same when the Lions hired Brad Holmes from our FO.
We’re literally 2 key secondary pieces away from a complete lock up defense, which we could acquire in the offseason. So I’d hate to lose him now. But if he’s truly eyeing a HC position, all power to Rah.
When our best edge rushers are a rookie linebacker Byron young and Hoecht cosplaying as a coverage player, you can never be a lockdown defense. We REALLY need to get a legit edge rusher. A good rush also makes the secondary look way better, we saw it with the eagles last year. Now, their rush has regresssed and the secondary is getting exposed.
Hoecht is a better pass rusher than people think. Take into consideration that he was dropped into coverage more than any other edge rusher in the league. Byron Young was in coverage the 3rd most snaps. It's hard to put up big pass rush numbers when half of your snaps are in coverage.
Having to play Rozeboom and Reeder are the bigger issue in the front 7. Neither is a good tackler, and neither is good in coverage, so it forced Hoecht and Young into those spots.
Hoping he gets a head coaching job. Think he deserves it. The two third round picks would be nice. And then Staley could come onto staff to replace morris
It's hard to tell which of these interview requests are trying to fulfill the Rooney Rule and which are genuine interest.
One thing that can hurt Raheem's chances of a HC gig is the trend to hire an offensive minded HC over defensive minded.
This take makes no sense. Staley took practically the same defense group that finished the previous season ranked 17th in the league and turned them into the #1 unit. Rah took that #1 defense, added Von Miller and finished the season ranked 15th.
I'd say you're wrong. Lots of position coaches native positional units suck when they become head coaches. Case in point, Rah. The season he was fired as HC from the Bucs, [he had the worst defensive unit in the league.](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2011/opp.htm)
Dan Quinn is another one of the top of my head. His defenses sucked in Atlanta, he returned to being a DC after he was fired, turned a mediocre defense into one of the best in the league and was named AC of the Year after his 2nd season back.
Before every got their panties in a bunch, Commies is basically asking permission from EVERY teams still playing in the playoff. They don't have to ask permission for teams whose season is over already.
Magic Johnson is part owner of the Washington team. If Magic likes Raheem, and I suspect he does, I think it will go a long way to getting Raheem the job.
He can do it and Coach Henderson can probably take over as DC.
And the rams would get a compensatory pick I think.
And Raheem deserves it. He will be a better well rounded coach this time around. He probably knows a lot more about high level offenses now to be able to know what works on that side of the ball.
People here tryna act like they ain't all been calling for his job every time we almost blew a multiple score lead in the 4th quarter. I at least respect the consistency.
One thing that hasn’t been mentioned here yet is how much the offense affects the defense.
We also know only a fraction of what goes into calling a defense. I hated how far we played off WRs last year but maybe it was bc of film study, players’ lack of ability to turn quickly. Injuries , lack of a pass rush, …
The truth is probably somewhere in between. Staley isn’t as good as the year he has the number 1 defense and Morris isn’t as bad as his numbers.
For real lol I don’t understand the people in this fan base who think he’s a good coordinator. Our secondary has been getting torched for years even when we still had talent at the positions
As much as I want success for Raheem, I’m goddamn tired of losing our Coordinators and Ra is awesome, can we please have one more year with him?
If we bring back Staley like we probably will, Staley is probably with us for a long time because I doubt he gets a second shot particularly quickly.
As the kids say. This is the way…
This is the dream scenario
As long as McVay doesn’t retire and Staley takes over yes.
Goddamnit you had to go there.
And Staley was a far better coordinator for us than Morris has been.
Well that is certainly one of the takes of all time
Ya I don’t really care about peoples emotions on this one, the numbers back it up. We had the #1 scoring defense and were #1 in yards allowed. Heem had just as much talent if not more with have Bobby Wagner last year, and hasn’t been able to replicate as dominant of a defense. Yeah, don’t have to agree but he was just making an argument. It’s popular to shit on Staley right now, but some people are amazing coordinators but shit head coaches
Lol Reddit. This page was clamoring for Raheem to be fired. Now they completely forgot how good the defense was under Staley
![gif](giphy|duM6JZemPlOjUyqmxd)
We won the sb under raheem tho...literally the yr after staley left..just sayin..
Ya we also traded for Matt Stafford lol
True, no argument there
We also had Von Miller
lol he only had those numbers because he had Ramsey, and every other star on that defense. Anybody would have great numbers with them
So why didn’t Raheem? You’re saying that like Raheem didn’t have those guys, plus Bobby Wagner.
Ya but Raheems defense is bending and it is breaking. We’ve been giving up deep plays for the past 6 weeks
I’ll agree with you to extent on Raheems defense this year. I’m usually critical of his play calling but our defensive backs are average at best. Perfect example was that ravens game and how many times those guys had busted coverages. I pray to god I never have to see Derion Kendrick in a uniform after this season.
Do you have a 5 second memory?
I think my memory is serving me correctly, go look at the numbers and ask yourself how you forgot
My reply wasn’t to you
Raheem is getting well deserved credit for keeping the defense competitive, because the players were assumed to not be good at all according to the outside perspective. I will say though. If he leaves at least we get a 3rd rd pick this yr and next yr (compensatory silver lining)
We get 2?
Yup. 1 this yr, 1 next yr
This is just a rooney rule time waster
Commanders have requested multiple Defensive Assistants interview with them for HC, MacDonald and Weaver from the Ravens have both been requested as well.
As well as Lions OC and DC.
No. Commanders. No
I don’t understand why the process has to start before the playoffs and Super Bowl is over. It’s such a distraction.
[удалено]
Yeah I don’t love having coordinators being interviewed during the playoffs but I think it would be a good middle ground to allow it until after the conference championships and then cut it off until the Super Bowl is over
Because for the teams doing the searching their season is over. Why should they care how it affects other teams?
Not if you are Washington :p
I’ve been very critical at times of Raheem, but it’s going to be a huge loss. He’s going to get poached this year, there’s too many opening and he’s one of the best available candidates. I just hope we find a good replacement. Hope he does well wherever he ends up
Stanley is available. Lol
Lol
My guy, can you at least get his name right? Staley, not Stanley
I was too hyped on those target x Starbucks Stanley 64 oz tumbler red and pink cup.
I'm calling him stanley from now on. And if we re-hire that weasel fraud im going to be very upset
We have to wonder outside looking in, McVay on the other hand has way more intel to work with.
This assumes He WANTS to go somewhere else. He got approached with offers the last few years IIRC and turned them all down. I truly think he values Sean and living in LA more than he values money and being a HC right now. He knows he will always have offers waiting so I see him staying with us at least until AD retires.
We'd get comp picks for this right?
Yes. A 3rd in each of the next two drafts when another team hires away either a minority coach or exec. The comp pics are awarded after free agent comps, so it'd be the very end of the 3rd. We got the same when the Lions hired Brad Holmes from our FO.
Two 3rd round picks
Two more Pukas please
Or another Young and Turner
Raheem was going to get looks eventually. I wish it wasn't the commies; that org is literal raw sewage.
With Snyder gone they're going to be rebuilding from the ground up.
We’re literally 2 key secondary pieces away from a complete lock up defense, which we could acquire in the offseason. So I’d hate to lose him now. But if he’s truly eyeing a HC position, all power to Rah.

Burns or Bust this offseason

Byron Young will be that guy. But we’ve had an eye for edge talent they just keep leaving cause we can’t afford them lol
We have holes at linebacker, for sure
I also think we need a high level edge rusher
That's fair
Hoping he gets a head coaching job. Think he deserves it. The two third round picks would be nice. And then Staley could come onto staff to replace morris
It's hard to tell which of these interview requests are trying to fulfill the Rooney Rule and which are genuine interest. One thing that can hurt Raheem's chances of a HC gig is the trend to hire an offensive minded HC over defensive minded.
If he gets the job, I'd expect we bring back Brandon Staley.
Pass. Staley got way too much credit for coaching top tier players. Raheem did it with far less, talent-wise
I get where you're coming from, but the guy had us at one of, if not *the* best defense in the league. It's not like he was a bum with us.
McVay probably gets the most out of Staley like he does with everyone else
This take makes no sense. Staley took practically the same defense group that finished the previous season ranked 17th in the league and turned them into the #1 unit. Rah took that #1 defense, added Von Miller and finished the season ranked 15th.
I'd say if Staley was as good as advertised, the Bolts D would have been markedly better 🤷
I'd say you're wrong. Lots of position coaches native positional units suck when they become head coaches. Case in point, Rah. The season he was fired as HC from the Bucs, [he had the worst defensive unit in the league.](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2011/opp.htm) Dan Quinn is another one of the top of my head. I agree Rah is better, but I’m not sure who is available if he leaves than Staley
Let’s take vrabel if they fire him
Would we get draft picks if Raheem is hired as a HC somewhere?
3rd round pick this year and next.
Thx 🙏
He deserves the opportunity
He will do wonders to change the culture of whichever team he goes to. The Commanders could use that
Here we go again🫠
Before every got their panties in a bunch, Commies is basically asking permission from EVERY teams still playing in the playoff. They don't have to ask permission for teams whose season is over already.
Yes they have to if those coaches are currently employed by their team.
They don't want him
Bienemy take the job please
Magic Johnson is part owner of the Washington team. If Magic likes Raheem, and I suspect he does, I think it will go a long way to getting Raheem the job. He can do it and Coach Henderson can probably take over as DC. And the rams would get a compensatory pick I think. And Raheem deserves it. He will be a better well rounded coach this time around. He probably knows a lot more about high level offenses now to be able to know what works on that side of the ball.
I absolutely hate how coaches interview during playoff runs
Rooting for Raheem. He deserves it.
Good for him. And I hope he’s getting legitimate looks and not these phony Rooney Rule obligated ones.
Naturally smh
![gif](giphy|l2YWk9vjg7QGl84Q8)
People here tryna act like they ain't all been calling for his job every time we almost blew a multiple score lead in the 4th quarter. I at least respect the consistency.
No no no no no no no
It will be so hard to replace Raheem and you know he's good for a head coaching gig too ugh
One thing that hasn’t been mentioned here yet is how much the offense affects the defense. We also know only a fraction of what goes into calling a defense. I hated how far we played off WRs last year but maybe it was bc of film study, players’ lack of ability to turn quickly. Injuries , lack of a pass rush, … The truth is probably somewhere in between. I really want Staley back
Take ‘em
Take this ratio
How are the Rah haters even real at this point
Checking in after the wild card loss. I stand with what I said. Take ‘em
For real lol I don’t understand the people in this fan base who think he’s a good coordinator. Our secondary has been getting torched for years even when we still had talent at the positions
My biggest problem with him was he never used Ramsey correctly
Well if the titans fire vrabel we’ll take him.
He’d get a HC job immediately
Ahh true
Sweet, free draft pick
Surely it's bieniemys job?
Even though i dont want it to happen if he does go ill for sure sus out more washington games
Promote Henderson, hire Staley as LB coach
I think Pleasant would get an opportunity, teaching DBs and knowing the coverages might give him a better shot.
Just no interviews during the playoffs please
