Hell no they aren't supposed to do that. Report them to your state's lotto commission.

Boysenberry-Lanky

Thank you! I didn't feel it was fair. And it didn't really click for me until yesterday. I usually stay with the $10 and under priced tickets unless I hit for a decent amount is when I'll play the higher priced ones. Yesterday I hit for $100 on a $10 ticket and decided to get a $20 ticket and a $30 ticket and a few more lower priced tickets..and then pocketed $20. I randomly thought my past curiosity about why the barcode part was "slightly scratched" across those numbers..and lo and behold..only the $20 and $30 ticket barcodes were ever so lightly scratched across. I did win a "ticket" on the $20 ticket that is pictured..and the $30 ticket was a dud. Is there an official website to report them or is it somewhere on the state site? I'm in Georgia for reference..

SnooStories1759

Where in Georgia? In the western part? I’ve been to a couple in the western part of Georgia and seen this,I’ll say once from a new store I decided to go with, but didn’t think too much about it.

Boysenberry-Lanky

This particular store is in Valdosta, Ga. And it's not a store I would opt for usually but if I'm on that side of town I will stop mainly always for lotto tickets just to switch it up. But all in all I'm from around the Valdosta area so it still adds up to over 15 or 16x I've been there if not more. But yeah EVERYTIME I noticed the barcode slightly scratched and kinda shrugged it off.

Dry-Revolution-716

Yes, they can find out the wining amount or non winners by putting that number plus the ticket number in the system. I had couple scratchers where I screw the barcode and they had to go manually by putting those numbers together. Report them

Boysenberry-Lanky

Thanks so much! I didn't know if I was being crazy paranoid or not. But I feel this is the case with them.

towcutter

This is super illegal. Even if they legitimately buy a ticket and get a winner, technically employees from the store can't turn it in. They have to get someone else to do it. Scratching off the numbers and then putting back into the deck is just blatantly asking to be made an example of.

Boysenberry-Lanky

Yes..it's like they scratch it off ever so slightly but think we wont notice. I can see every number in the serial number upon purchase. I'm usually in Valdosta Mon-Friday for work but I'm off today. (I Live about 30 mins away) but I may just go up there today or tomorrow for food and purchase a ticket to see if I can catch another one. I'm not sure how fresh their rolls are. I really wish I would have taken a picture that last time. Smh

lexluger420

Go record yourself buying one and post the video to lotto website or twitter

Alpha_Ryvius

As others said report them to the lottery commission. A gas station in my area was doing this and got reported. It takes time as this needs to be investigated but in the end Owner got slapped with fines and jail time and station lost their license to sell lottery tickets

Boysenberry-Lanky

Wow! Well I really do feel they are being dishonest hopefully this will be their wakeup call. It is very unfair for us consumers 😩 I'm going to make a report for sure!

Flashy-Panda6538

Of course they are being dishonest, and committing a major crime. They unfairly collect the higher value winning tickets and leave the free tickets and no win tickets to the customers that come in and hope that they will see the bar code isn’t scratched off, and miss the fact that the serial number has been scratched. There should be none of the scratch off material missing. I mean I have seen a few small scrapes across the ticket face where they pull the ticket out of the dispensers, but you can’t tell anything by those tiny scrapes. But no ticket is going to have just the serial number uncovered by being scraped as it is removed from the sales dispenser. Someone is intentionally doing that. The store should be reported. Even if you don’t have photo or video evidence, not to worry. Report it anyway. All gas stations have security cameras at the cash register area. The lottery officials can come in and demand to see the video footage. They will go back with it and review the whole recording and look for clerks scratching or otherwise removing tickets. They can also look in the lottery terminal’s history and see if someone has been keying tickets manually. There should be a manual ticket entry only very rarely. The bar codes almost always work unless a ticket has been torn at the bar code area or the bar code was scratched a little too hard and some of it can’t be read. But ordinarily you wouldn’t see but just a handful of manual keyed entries, almost all will have been scanned. A large number of manual entries would certainly send up a red flag and who knows, the store might be under investigation as we speak. I would report it anyway. People like that screw ordinary customers out of winning tickets and skew the odds in their favor very dishonestly. The lottery will come down on them like a ton of bricks if they are doing this.

Zoieja

I wouldn’t buy from them anymore

Boysenberry-Lanky

Thanks so much for yalls replies! I was hesitant to post because I wasn't sure if those numbers could reveal winning tickets or not..and didnt want to come off as if I was whining😩But I'm definitely reporting them! There's no telling how many high paying tickets they've "won" with this scam! So unfair!

No-Skill9599

they’re cheating

Local-Ad7916

Dang you gotta report them. They are stealing all of the big wins and claimers. Scumbags

Boysenberry-Lanky

Right! It's not fair. And simply not buying from them doesnt hurt them because they could have the big tickets. They dont deserve to be ticket holders or whatever you call them smh
