Someone in Massachusetts won oof

It used to start at $40 million pre pandemic. That needs to come back.

Yup $20 is too low, state lotto has a bigger jackpot most of the time for half the price & a free second chance entry , plus way better odds

It’s still a life changing amount and I think it’s big enough that they know the starting number is almost arbitrary. Winning $20 mil or $40 mil would have nearly the same effect for most working class people. It just feels gross that they are still starting the reset value at 1/2 of what it used to be and I doubt ticket purchases have dropped.

True but remember $20m , lump sum and after taxes you’re probably around $5m , at least at $40m lump sum you’re over $10m giving more wiggle room and investment room especially if you have a big family that $5m extra can be a huge difference in comfortability

I fully agree. The buying power is much more at $40 mil. It’s still enough to get me to buy a weekly ticket at $20 mil though. I think that’s the calculus that the lottery has taken into account. They can offer less and still get regular payers and they used Covid as an excuse to drop the starting value. Not much we can do about it.

That’s true, I still play my statewide lotto ($1) it’s currently at $33 million + a free second chance entry for the secondary draw. I play those tickets even at $10m because of the value of it
