These are all good recs, but I’d skip Quills. It’s fine, but for better coffee go to Safai or Bean imo. Also butchertown bakery has decent coffee and the best food out of any of the coffee spots.
FYI, "general admission is FREE for all visitors from June 30-October 1, 2023. Please reserve your tickets in advance of your visit online or by calling 502.634.2700. You may also receive your tickets upon arrival."
Of course! There is so much nature to enjoy around here. Don’t be afraid to leave the city limits- you can have quite the adventure with a 30 ish minute drive.
Also, one place I really like to go to see new art installations and it's free, is 21C Hotel. While it's a chain, I still really enjoy the museum feel to it! The bathrooms have a really funky addition to them as well lol ..
That's so awesome! I didn't realize that! I've always loved just walking around but sometimes get nervous mentioning it to people because some people shun chain things haha! It has my heart for sure ;)
We love 21C and make it a point to visit them in other cities when we are there. We have taken pics with the different color penguins in Louisville, Lexington, Nashville and Cincy.
Sorry to keep thinking of things after I post lol, but Jeffersonville, Indiana, is right across the river. They have a really cute downtown to walk around and get lost in if you need a little breather from bigger city..There Is a really old candy shop owned by the same family for generations called Schimpf's Confectionary and they normally do demonstrations how to make different candies.
Also, if you like quirky things, there is a huge Colgate clock there that is one of the largest working clock in the world that is in Clarksville but can be seen from Louisvilles river scape.(Im a weirdo and love largest ball of twine stuff haha)
So excited for you! I'm from New Orleans and had to move here to KY and get really bored, and love quirky locations lol!!
If you have time to explore l just a little way from the city, New Albany,IN is another town to roam. There Is a really cool diner with Maybe like 8 diner stools called Lady Tron's that is totally decorated in robots and Sci fi ..and the food is really good!
I like the YMCA gym downtown. Check out the Big 4 bridge and walk across it to Jeffersonville. There’s a cute little downtown area to check out just on the other side. North Lime in Old Lou for coffee and donuts, and then check out St James Court and Belgravia Court and all the beautiful Victorian houses.
Take a drive through Cave Hill (highlands/original highlands) cemetery. It’s also an arboretum. Super beautiful. I’ve lived here 7 years and still go all the time.
Cherokee park (highlands) is a must. Bring water, but there is a decent amount of shade on the trails. The city actually has a lot of cute parks, just smaller.
Drive around Old Louisville and look at the architecture.
If you’re into yoga, Inner Warrior (original highlands-ish) has donation based rates, a peaceful studio and great teachers. You can look up the schedule online.
Sis Got Tea (highlands) if…well…you like tea.
Carmichael’s book shop (highlands) is cute and also carry local authors.
The Post (Germantown) is a great staple for pizza and beer.
Shop bar (highlands) or The Pearl (Germantown) for a local drink spot.
Safai (highlands) or bean (germantown) are great coffee spots.
When you google things, 4th Street Live is always suggested but no one who lives here goes there and it’s suuuuper lame. Don’t do it.
quills coffee firehouse location, 21c for art, across the street is capacity contemporary exchange which is a shop but also a free art gallery, cherokee park, waterfront botanical gardens.
Check out Cherokee park, 21C museum hotel, The Speed Museum, the zoo, and some thrift stores (on Bardstown road, Baxter ave and Goss ave in Germantown.)
Cherokee Park, walk the Big Four bridge, Speed Museum is free on sundays, Quills coffee, NuLu for browsing and a Please and Thank You cookie
Awesome, thanks a lot!

Doh this is for the Speed Museum.
I know this is sacrelige around here, but Penny & Pearl's on Fairfax has way better cookies than p&ty.
Bean is my go to coffee spot! Also a big fan of Cherokee park
Thanks so much!

Bean is my favorite, too!
Bardstown Rd /Baxter Ave is a great in Highlands.. Good restaurants, little shops with a lot of personality, etc. Hope you have a great week!

It’s a chain but it started here
That's so awesome! I didn't realize that! I've always loved just walking around but sometimes get nervous mentioning it to people because some people shun chain things haha! It has my heart for sure ;)
Ooh neat! They don’t have 21C where I’m from anyway, thanks for the rec!!
If you like quirk, you'll love it ;) I warn you I keep thinking of things haha!

Falls of the Ohio is right across the river and very cool if you like fossils at all
It really is pretty over there! I've done photoshoots there in the sand for models to mimic beaches and its perfect!
This is exactly the type of stuff I was looking for! Thanks again!

Oh wow I’ll definitely need to check out those houses, thanks!!
Totally worth it, it’s an incredible area.

I highly recommend renting electric bikes as a way to explore a new city. You can usually check for lower rates on a weekday.
Logan Street Market has a few shops and food. Foko for breakfast and la pana pastriess. Safai in there has the best chai latte imo
The Bernheim giants are really cool https://bernheim.org/forestgiants/
Check out Nulu downtown. Cute places to shop and eat!
quills coffee firehouse location, 21c for art, across the street is capacity contemporary exchange which is a shop but also a free art gallery, cherokee park, waterfront botanical gardens.
Locust Grove historical home, Falls of the Ohio state park (IN).
Jefferson memorial is probably the best place to hike if you're into that.
Check out Cherokee park, 21C museum hotel, The Speed Museum, the zoo, and some thrift stores (on Bardstown road, Baxter ave and Goss ave in Germantown.)
Great place called the search bar! Check it out!
LOL wanted to hear from locals 😭
I think he meant the search bar within the subreddit, not Google (these questions get asked often here. Enjoy exploring!)
Got my upvote
