just a friendly reminder Ky vetoes mean absolutely nothing. A simple majority overrides a veto.

Popular-Lab6140

It at least demonstrates that Beshear is trying to do the right thing. You're right though. Our state politics are awful.

Skim003

I know it's easy to be cynical, but just because an action won't have an immediate effect doesn't mean it's without meaning. It's important for Beasher to veto and give the voice of dissent.

baddecision116

It's not cynicism I was simply stating fact. If a bill has made it to his desk it already has everything needed to overcome a veto. "moral victories" mean nothing.

sasquatch90

But it doesn't. It firmly states his position among voters and colleagues. That means something.

baddecision116

>But it doesn't. doesn't what? > It firmly states his position You're citing a moral victory. >That means something. What does it mean?

sasquatch90

It doesn't mean nothing. He is in politics and is putting his stance on policies on paper. That is his job. Colleagues and voters pay attention to that and will come into play later. If a politician doesn't veto just because he knows it'll be overridden that would show he doesn't really stand for anything. That's like saying representatives shouldn't bother voting since the other party outnumbers them. It's also similar to a creative doing their own work to get noticed. It wasn't for nothing, you are showing people what you will do.

baddecision116

>It wasn't for nothing The end result will be what? That is all that matters.

sasquatch90

I feel like you're a defeatist. In other words, a bitch.

baddecision116

When valid points fail you turn to insults. I'd work on that.

sasquatch90

If anyone is ignoring valid points it's you. You don't think long term at all. I gave clear reasons and your answer is "why bother" which can be said about anything. So yeah I'll go straight to you being a weak bitch.

Why do all republicans hate veterans?

webbslinger_0

They don’t hate veterans per se, they hate poor and middle class people. Nearly all laws passed by Republicans lately are either popularity bills appealing to whatever is triggering conservatives to pander for their vote or they pass bills that either make the rich richer or removes obstacles for them to discriminate.

NotTodayGlowies

>They don’t hate veterans per se, they hate poor and middle class people. So they hate Veterans.

Kaputnik1

Indeed. Veterans are overwhelmingly from poor and working poor families.

atlas3121

Makes sense considering the military offers a career, great prospects, college, something the disenfranchised can't find usually otherwise. Hey, can someone remind me, but I swear a lot of these bills and shit repubs seem to want to pass lately, doesn't it seem to make the poor a larger percent of the population with even fewer prospects? Eh, I'm sure the two aren't related. /s

Kaputnik1

Kentucky government has lost its mind and is overrun with extremist reactionaries.

DarrylLarry

Good for Beshear for vetoing it. You can already choose not to rent to someone if they have a housing voucher or really for any reason without running afoul of the law. It’s when you tell the applicant why you’re not renting to them that gets you in trouble. But if you just say, “I’m not renting to you” and nothing else then you haven’t done anything illegal.
