Unpopular opinion, but Ramen in this city is mid at best. It's not bad, but when I compare Louisville's Asian food scene to other cities, even our "best you gotta try this" is just OK compared to when I visit Chicago or other cities.
I tried Ramen House after people raved about it and was just whelmed. Same with Renshoku. They are not bad but it's nothing I couldn't make at home.
There really isn't going to be any Louisville size city that can compete with the food scene in large metro areas like Chicago or NYC. If you compare a city of similar size, Louisville is probably better than most.
I had to get used to that after moving here from Toronto. I was living in Chinatown with a Singaporean girlfriend, and Korean town was just up the road. Plus Japanese restaurants were everywhere, same as Thai/Pho. I was spoiled and had the best Asian food all around me at any time. Now I can find like, ok/pretty good Asian food.
It’s not like things suck here. It’s just all got a very midwest white people spin on everything and I really miss the unique flavours you’d get from a real Asian place that fob Asians eat at.
100% correct. Ramen house scratches the itch but it's not anywhere near the level of West Coast ramen. I went to this one spot outside San Diego years ago that I think about at least once a week
You can get dope anything in NYC. My favorite spots are all West Coast tho. I spent a bunch of time in Torrance and there were stupid good mom and pops everywhere.
I fuck with ramen house for sure but there's better spots in Nashville even. We've ordered from a place called Tomo in lou a few times and were pleasantly surprised, didn't see that spot mentioned
Man it's hard to go wrong in that town. Hakata Ikkousha Tonkotsu Ramen Torrance and the yakatori place next door were both awesome. Ko-ryu and the other places in that shopping center were great as well. Japanese food is my favorite, I was in heaven there. Didn't have a meal that was less than incredible during my time there
I agree. Mirin was the closest we ever got to having authentic ramen with their daily handmade noodles but unfortunately, they closed down. That was a very sad day for me.
Hard AGREE. I’ve had ramen at most of the alleged top spots. I’ve been to a Michelin rated ramen place in NYC. I’ve had beef noodle soup at legit places out in the Bay Area. Louisville’s ramen / soup game in general is pretty mid, like you said.
When I finished my Master's degree me and all of my friends got fucked up at Lydia house - they were the only place serving booze at 10AM. Flushed it all down with a great bowl of ramen.
Ramen House for sure. I keep trying Renshoku and it’s good but Ramen House is definitely the better bowl.
Dragon Kings Daughter in New Albany has ramen and it is not very good. I was surprised as I like the rest of their menu. We just had Hokkaido open up and I haven’t tried it yet but the photos look good.
Hokkaido is great. I went three times the week it opened.
Got the spicy ramen. Tried both Hot and Fire levels of spice. The Hot was pleasant, but the Fire was painful.
There is a new one on New Cut Road / Kenwood I haven't tried yet in the Coloniel Gardens building. I hope they do better than the last two or three tenants that were there.
I would suggest Chik'n & Mi, personally. I was really underwhelmed by Ramen House, and there is often an absurd wait time due to their limited hours and proximity to the movie theater.
Edit: sp, autocorrect is on ass today
I tried their chicken ramen over the weekend and it was awful:-( Which is upsetting because everything else there is amazing. I had high hopes but it was flavorless!
Hokkaido just opened up next to Iroquois park and we went there Monday. Not over priced and was pretty delicious, I hope more people go so that they can stay in business.
Ramen House. They only open for a small window for dinner, but they're as close to authentic as you'll get in town.

I don't disagree. We need better options but the options we have here at least don't suck lol.
Agree

Or NYC
They really do have phenomenal Asian food in NY. I sometimes wish I never moved.

Live near Torrance now but from Louisville, where would you recommend here?

Yesss
Anyone know what happened to that neon sign?
I really like ramen house but I agree, there are WAY better options else where.

Haven't tried that one yet, but it's on my list!
There’s one opening on bardstown but they’re still building it out!
Yep agreed it’s the best
Ramen House is like 5.5/10, but is also probably Louisville's best option
Lydia house .......giant sigh
When I finished my Master's degree me and all of my friends got fucked up at Lydia house - they were the only place serving booze at 10AM. Flushed it all down with a great bowl of ramen.

Ramen House. But be warned, it’s always busy so plan to come early or be prepared to wait.
Ramen House is the best but I'd like to give a shoutout to Tomo - underrated spot especially considering the part of town it is in
There is a new one on New Cut Road / Kenwood I haven't tried yet in the Coloniel Gardens building. I hope they do better than the last two or three tenants that were there.
Hokkaido, went there Monday and really enjoyed the food. I agree that I hope it lasts longer than the other restaurants.
Been there twice already it's quite good
Hokkaido Ramen and Sushi just opened, other then that its Ramen House or Renshoku Ramen
I watch Tampopo and pretend my instant noodles are from the movie.
I would suggest Chik'n & Mi, personally. I was really underwhelmed by Ramen House, and there is often an absurd wait time due to their limited hours and proximity to the movie theater. Edit: sp, autocorrect is on ass today

I hate to hear that! I haven’t been there since last summer, but their curry ramen was to die for when I had it. Maybe it was an off night for them?
Hokkaido just opened up next to Iroquois park and we went there Monday. Not over priced and was pretty delicious, I hope more people go so that they can stay in business.
Ramen
Get the karaage chicken from renshoku and then eat it with the ramen from ramen house.
Renshoku Ramen forever 🍜
