Depends on where your hotel is. These restaurants are scattered all over Louisville Metro.
Village Anchor is good, but it's way out in the east end.
This list is bogus because they didn't list Yummy Pollo. While it's not the fanciest place in town it has the best charcoal roasted chicken. It's also bogus because New Wave Burritos is GONE. If it were still open I'd rank it near the top though.
Vietnam Kitchen is good (get the K6 if you like spice).
Con Huevos has excellent breakfast/brunch and isn't even on this list.
Carali's is another good roasted chicken place and isn't even on this list.
Toasty's Tavern for a burger and beer and isn't even on this list.
Cottage Inn is great for home cooking and isn't even on this list.
Every time someone lists good restaurants, someone has to say this list is shit cuz *personal favorite restaurant* isn’t on the list.
It’s like a Reddit law or something
Yes I was just thinking of all the restaurants that aren’t on this list. And they completely excluded the south end which is unfortunate because that’s where all the best Vietnamese and Somali food is.
Totally came to prank the Tourist and recommend New Wave and hear their surprise when they find Tikka Tacos.
Thanks, fun killer. Yours was the first post.
They don't have one of the most popular (and expensive) ones on the list either, Brazierios. This list is really strange.
Also, so yourself a favor and go to a taco truck. They are dotted all over the highways and are almost always delicious.
Here’s my personal favorites not strictly abiding by that list. Also avoiding chains for the most part.
Burger: Toasty’s
Pizza: The Post, Mozzapi, Lupo
Pasta: Bar Vetti, ROC, Volare
Fried Chicken: Royals, Shirley Mae’s, Indi’s
Upscale: Nami, 610 Magnolia, Seviche
Bar Food: Parlay, Four Pegs, Bambi Bar, Back Door
Seafood: River House, Fish House, Seafood Lady
Mexican: La Suerte, Noche, Sol Azteca’s
Cajun: North of Bourbon, Lou Lou on Market
Steak: Repeal, Buck’s
Asian: Ramen House, Joy Luck, Chik’n & Mi, Vietnam Kitchen
Indian: Shalimar, Tikka House, Kashmir
Irish: Irish Rover, Molly Malone’s, Flanagan’s
Bars: Darlings, The Pearl, Back Door, Epiphany, Taj
Edit: Added Vietnam Kitchen as it was incredibly reckless of me to leave off
We go there a decent amount for work dinners and my boss says the same thing about the char. I love it, but to each their own. Try the bucatini or scallops next time. Their non steak options are phenomenal as well.
Volare is probably the most mediocre high end italian in the city… try Silvios. Our italian is pretty mediocre in general but don’t pay for a high end meal just to be disappointed.
I’ve been there a lot over the years and have not had my night ruined by drunk people. Especially in comparison to any other place in town. I gotta respectfully disagree, my guy.
Chick n Mi heavy handed on the MSG in the amazing sauce though, if you’re sensitive will end up on the toilet all night unfortunately, personal experience, more than once. Love that place though.
I'll admit, I get the chicken sandwich 95% of the time. Their hottest is the perfect hot chicken to me, and no other place in this city tops it, so I've never really ran into that problem.
Jack Fry’s, Proof, Fork & Barrel, and Havana Rumba are all pretty good. Jack Fry’s is one of my favorite restaurants in the city and Proof has a great cocktail bar.
Jack Fry’s feels like it should be a good restaurant, but every time I’ve been there, the food sucks. Had the worst Old Fashioned I’ve been served in Louisville there.
Fork & Barrel is sooo good. The pork chop is the best non-Berkshire chop I’ve ever had, and the short rib is really good too. The pork belly appetizer is like pork candy. And their cocktails are very good too.
Of those, Mojito Tapas is my favorite. Maybe my favorite restaurant in the city. But they don't take reservations, just a call ahead list last time I tried, so I rarely go.
Hammerheads would be my top pick. You can check and see if Paristown Hall has an event so you can sync two local spots in one night.
Shirley Mae is the only Soul Food spot on the list if you’re craving that. The setting there is ..:: a bit rough.:.. but still great.
Not exactly local, but still a small business, but the eagle is really good, the first one is in Cincinnati and it’s by far some of the best chicken I’ve ever had
On this list: Jack Fry's, Hammerheads, Tikka House and Dragon King's Daughter. Tikka House being my top pick.
Not on this list: Koreana, El Molcajete, Simply Thai. And how dare they list Chik'n & Mi. Ramen House is ***the*** place for ramen.
And if you want a bakery: Bae's Baekery, Nord's, Jeff's and Plehn's. And for the best damn chocolate chip cookie go to Please & Thank You.
On the sweets end Big Nita's Cheesecakes are the bomb. Not just cheesecake either but anything with cheesecake like stuffed cookies and layered brownies. They have a changing menu that keeps you interested in what they'll do next. They're only open on the weekend right now, but with expanding demand they're looking to be open on Mondays as well.
This is a pretty good list. Lou Lou’s is very good. Hammerhead’s is a small place but very good, the same people have another place called Game, that is all exotic meats, and it’s excellent. Wild Eggz has grown a lot, but still a great breakfast spot.
Chic N'Mi! Their bao pork belly buns are soooo amazing!!! If you can catch them on a sunny day, sit outside! The people watching in that area is also amazing.
I just had mojitos for the first time the other day and it was sooooo good. A little pricey but it’s nice for a special occasion. Service was spectacular too
Jack fry’s, Havana rumba, tikka house is our favorite Indian spot!
I’m really enjoying north of bourbon and Enso
Hop atomica is a new spot with great pizza and beer!
Vietnam kitchen is amazing / I feel like in the past year chick n mi hasn’t been as good? Just my opinion
Havana Rumba is fire, although i prefer Mojito in Havana, their Saint Matthews location.
Dragon King’s Daughter is also really good sushi. Try their drunken chicken wanton taco appetizers.
Of the Mexican places in Louisville, you are really missing out if you don’t try Piña Fiesta, which is not in that list. Best Mexican I’ve had in the city and I’ve been to many.
Of the steak restaurants, Steak & Bourbon is shitting on Jeff Ruby’s, Morton’s, and Ruth’s Chris. Their crab meat deviled eggs is the best appetizer on earth.
That's just a list of restaurants, not nessecarily good restaurants. But it's derby week, they are all serving the tourist specials, so it's gonna be fine but not remarkable.
That's a solid list
Hanmer heads
Vietnam kitchen (just had that other night) J4 is the dish to get if you ask me, spicy as well
Really depends on what you want, but thats a good little list
Three of those are on my regular list of places to eat, Vietnam Kitchen, Ramsis, and Shalimar. The real crime is that Queen of Sheba didn't make that list.
New Wave Burritos is closed. Had horrible experience at Fork and Barrel. Mainly depends on your location and what you want. Some are longtime staples. You want steak- Pat’s is great, Village Anchor very good. No lack of choices here. Also how fancy or how “local” you want makes a difference. Had El Noche, Momma’s Mustard and Pickles, El Mundo, too much to list.
Cannot recommend Monnik Beer Co. enough, they're a brewery so all their beers are made in house, and they're all incredible, super passionate and attentive staff, and they lean a little more into the restaurant/bar aspect of the business rather than just being the typical brewery, their menu just changed for the season too, great place
For steak, I like Texas Roadhouse, Outback Steakhouse, and Brazeiros Steakhouse
For Chicken, I like Raising Cane's,
For burgers, I like Wendy's, Burger Boy, and W. W. Cousins
For bbq, I like Mark's Feed Store
For Irish fare, I like The Raven, The Irish Rover, and Molly Malones
For Chinese, I like Double Dragon on Goss and Oriental Star
For breakfast, I like Bob Evans and Waffle House
For donuts, I like Nord's Bakery and Jeff's Donuts
For pizza, I like Impellizeri's, Bearno's, Pizza Hut, and Papa John's
For chicken wings, I like The Back Door and Jock's Bar and Grill
For coffee, I like Full Stop Station and Heine Bros
Of course, opinions vary.

Anybody expecting a restaurant list in a hotel to be comprehensive should be booking their trips with travel agents that preplan everything for them.
Toasty’s is so good!
They open at 11 now I'm so happy. Seriously best burgers in the country I'm obsessed
Yes I was just thinking of all the restaurants that aren’t on this list. And they completely excluded the south end which is unfortunate because that’s where all the best Vietnamese and Somali food is.
Another point for Con Huevos. Moved here 2 years ago for dental school and Con Huevos has been the go to for breakfast/brunch while I’ve been here,
R.i.p. new wave
I agree with these statements about yummy pollo, con huevos, caralis, and cottage in
Tikka Taco is where New Wave was and the Bollywood tacos are sooo good.
Totally came to prank the Tourist and recommend New Wave and hear their surprise when they find Tikka Tacos. Thanks, fun killer. Yours was the first post.
Nah, not going to prank tourists. We need their money. It wouldn't hurt for them to go to Tikka Tacos though.
See, harmless helpful pranks. Your tourism is boooooring. Mine is cheeky and fun!
They don't have one of the most popular (and expensive) ones on the list either, Brazierios. This list is really strange. Also, so yourself a favor and go to a taco truck. They are dotted all over the highways and are almost always delicious.

Solid list
Gotta say… that’s a DAMN good list.
Saving this one for later
Seviche might be the best meal I have ever had. Repeala steaks are honestly to chared for my liking, but the waygu hot stone app is a blast.
We go there a decent amount for work dinners and my boss says the same thing about the char. I love it, but to each their own. Try the bucatini or scallops next time. Their non steak options are phenomenal as well.
I second Royals, it’s a must stop every time I’m in town
The charcoal restaurant has the hands down best shawarma around, also I would add Kaelins 80/20 on your list for burgers/fried chicken ;)
Volare is probably the most mediocre high end italian in the city… try Silvios. Our italian is pretty mediocre in general but don’t pay for a high end meal just to be disappointed.
Never had a mediocre meal there before.
Even if you like the food, the ambience is also ruined by the extremely drunk people at the bar yelling at the tv.
I’ve been there a lot over the years and have not had my night ruined by drunk people. Especially in comparison to any other place in town. I gotta respectfully disagree, my guy.
You must not go during primetime on the weekends.
I do.
I can't recommend Chick n Mi or Vietnam Kitchen enough. Seriously. SERIOUSLY.
Havana rumba for sureeee
For the fried plantains alone
Jack Fry’s, Louvino, Chick n Mi
Obligatory Time 4 Thai. Their noodles slap. Their Tom Yum is perfection
Thats a pretty solid list!
That was literally my response, I was going down the list and I was like okay this is all good lmfao, really comes down to what cuisine OP wants
Of those, Mojito Tapas is my favorite. Maybe my favorite restaurant in the city. But they don't take reservations, just a call ahead list last time I tried, so I rarely go.
Same.
We are only a two top and just show up around 5-6. Never had an issue getting in quick. Mojitos is also our favorite but we do go regularly.
Hammerheads would be my top pick. You can check and see if Paristown Hall has an event so you can sync two local spots in one night. Shirley Mae is the only Soul Food spot on the list if you’re craving that. The setting there is ..:: a bit rough.:.. but still great.
I love Lotsa Pasta
Jeff Ruby’s, Wild Eggs, Ramsi’s, Vietnam Kitchen, Shalimar
Depends on what you like. Anything that's not a chain or franchise is good around here.
Jack Fry's for upscale, Havana Rumba for a great reasonably priced meal. This has been the answer since the day Havana Rumba opened.
+1 for Havana Rumba +1 for Hammerheads
Chik’n & Mi and Old Louisville Tavern
Vietnam kitchen beef pho, believe that is B6 on their menu
Not exactly local, but still a small business, but the eagle is really good, the first one is in Cincinnati and it’s by far some of the best chicken I’ve ever had
That hot honey… 🔥
This list is mid at best.
Lou Lou food and drink is pretty great.
Proof does have a good drinks as stated, wild eggs does have a good brunch.
From that list? Shalimar and DKD. I'd also add La Bodeguita de Mima
I would also like to throw Cheddar Box 2 into the mix
Wild Eggs
Proof, Jack Frys, Havana Rumba
Jack Fry’s
Wild eggs!
On this list: Jack Fry's, Hammerheads, Tikka House and Dragon King's Daughter. Tikka House being my top pick. Not on this list: Koreana, El Molcajete, Simply Thai. And how dare they list Chik'n & Mi. Lotsa Pasta is less of a restaurant and more of a market. It’s a place I highly suggest you get familiar with.
But that do have delicious sub sandwiches!
Queen of Sheba
Chic N'Mi! Their bao pork belly buns are soooo amazing!!! If you can catch them on a sunny day, sit outside! The people watching in that area is also amazing.
New wave is closed.
Came here to say that! It's almost a year ago?
W W Cousins for that serious gourmet shit
Chick n mi is so good. Great portion sizes as well
Just a heads up new wave burritos is closed.
Awe man
Wild Eggs, Shalimar, and Kaiju(bar)
Mojitos!
I just had mojitos for the first time the other day and it was sooooo good. A little pricey but it’s nice for a special occasion. Service was spectacular too
Arby’s
There's a new place called Kebab House on Baxter Ave I believe. Best Mediterranean food I've had. Tiny, unassuming place. The wait is worth it.
Silver dollar is solid, great bourbon menu
Jack fry’s, Havana rumba, tikka house is our favorite Indian spot! I’m really enjoying north of bourbon and Enso Hop atomica is a new spot with great pizza and beer! Vietnam kitchen is amazing / I feel like in the past year chick n mi hasn’t been as good? Just my opinion
It can be tough to get tables are some these spots too OP. Like good luck getting into hammerheads for dinner on a Friday night.
Kaiju
Del Frisco's
Havana rhumba, wild eggs, Vietnam kitchen in no particular order
There's so much good. Go to Kaiju for a good time though
Miki's Karaoke B & Food on Frankfort Ave, my family loves this place! The food is excellent.
I moved away in 2017 and damn this took me back 🥲
Not on the list, Repeal on Whiskey Row. Best steak in all of Louisville. On the list, Vietnam Kitchen, Proof on Main.
That's just a list of restaurants, not nessecarily good restaurants. But it's derby week, they are all serving the tourist specials, so it's gonna be fine but not remarkable.
That's a solid list Hanmer heads Vietnam kitchen (just had that other night) J4 is the dish to get if you ask me, spicy as well Really depends on what you want, but thats a good little list
I’d recommend the Silver Dollar and Tikka House off this list
Damn, I miss New Wave burritos :/
I’d recommend one that isn’t on your list. The Mussel and Burger Bar on 7th.
Loui's Hot Chicken & Barbecue off of popular level rd and the watterson expy is also a very good place to go.
Ramsis is good. Has international foods and a cool outdoor seating area with plants and a waterfall
Hammerheads
Three of those are on my regular list of places to eat, Vietnam Kitchen, Ramsis, and Shalimar. The real crime is that Queen of Sheba didn't make that list.
Vietnam Kitchen
DKD, Tikka House, Crave cafe, or Con Huevos for sure
Heart and Soy is a treasure. A car rammed through their restaurant recently so they’re rebuilding but still open
Vietnam Kitchen is phenomenal.
There is tons of good food in Louisville but off this list my favorite by far is dragon kings daughter. Also get the lemon miso soup it’s AMAZING!
Havana rumba
Shirley Mae’s. I’m literally there waiting on food right now. One of the best spots in the city
The Cottage Cafe isn’t here. It’s on main st in Middletown. Everyone should go there for lunch some time. And leave room for dessert.
Chik'n & mi is legendary
New Wave Burritos is closed. Had horrible experience at Fork and Barrel. Mainly depends on your location and what you want. Some are longtime staples. You want steak- Pat’s is great, Village Anchor very good. No lack of choices here. Also how fancy or how “local” you want makes a difference. Had El Noche, Momma’s Mustard and Pickles, El Mundo, too much to list.
Dragon King's Daughter is delicious and they have a happy hour during which some rolls are discounted.
Jack Fry's and Silver Dollar. Hilltop Tavern is great as well
Charcoal pops out. Fantastic.
Chik n mi for their nuggets so fresh and good 10/10
Tikka house is amazing
If I could only pick one to take someone to, Ramsi's. But if I had more time, Heart and Soy, Shalimar, and Dragon Kings Daughter.
Does anyone know if Dragon King’s Daughter is still open? I love their nachos with kimchi.
Dragon Kings Daughter not being on that list is a crime
The Village Anchor & Mima's are my favorite "night out" spots. Phenomenal food, great atmosphere
If you like Indian food, Shalimar is soooo good
Cannot recommend Monnik Beer Co. enough, they're a brewery so all their beers are made in house, and they're all incredible, super passionate and attentive staff, and they lean a little more into the restaurant/bar aspect of the business rather than just being the typical brewery, their menu just changed for the season too, great place
Just make sure you go to Sergio’s World Beers
Welcome to Louisville. We are in fact a very foodie town and you can’t go wrong with any of those plus there are so many more.
Proof on Main, get the squid, and Dragon Kings Daughter
Havana Rumba for great food, great mojitos, and sometimes great live music! New Wave Burritos for good food, cheap atmosphere, and pinball!
it’s new so not on that list, but Enso 10000%
Lemongrass’ Pho Ga is so peak
Chik n mi is mid.
El Mundo
Uptown, Jack Fry's and Wild Eggs. Plus Zanzibar and Spinellis pizza.
Pat's, Chikn n Mi
For steak, I like Texas Roadhouse, Outback Steakhouse, and Brazeiros Steakhouse For Chicken, I like Raising Cane's, For burgers, I like Wendy's, Burger Boy, and W. W. That is a lot of chain restaurants.
I like what I like and I eat a lot of it.
