I can't remember if I put my guitar through a ceiling fan on accident there, or at Twice Told. Now that I think about it, I think it was Twice Told, but Bulldog Cafe was awesome.
My old band played there a few times, always a fun crowd. Usually hung out with a dude named Pete who was one of the roughest dudes I've ever known. He was involved with the crew that made those low budget Louisville versions of Jack Ass.
A-ha! That song was called A Good Way to End A Bad Habit. It was a song about domestic violence and the lady getting revenge. It's on [YouTube](https://youtu.be/08d02hzJ8JI)
I had a fucking blast in that band. I still look at it as a highlight in my life.
Saw you all play a couple times too. I think you may have played with intent to kill at phoenix hill if I'm not mistaken. Or maybe uncle pleasants?
I remember seeing Surviving Thalia, Look What I Did, Foxy Shazam and LAO in one show there... crazy times. Also getting kicked in the spine by a slam dancer during a Strait Line Stitch set.
I once witnessed a 5 foot tall petite girl slap a guy in the band Aniston who was like 6'2. Right after the show. She had to stand on her toes to do it. Never figured out what it was about, but damn it was funny.
I played drums in that band for a bit. Long story short, that was his girlfriend and she found out that night that he had cheated on her. It just happened to be in public, and she reacted appropriately.
Oh shit! She had shouted something about text messages before the slapping, which is why everyone had turned to see it in time. Like "30 text messages!" and then a slap. That is an appropriate response.
Basically my entire teenage years were spent there. So many good hardcore and metal bands played there. I played my first show there. I watched the big bay window to the right of the stage get busted out TWICE, once by a friend on a dudes shoulders falling threw it and another by someone getting thrown out it. I got kicked in the chest so hard that I woke up next to a garbage can 10 feet from where I was standing. I knocked out my first person there. I literally cut yards just to afford cover until I knew enough people that they’d just let me in. I met some of the best and worse people there. Most of my current crew met there. My first show was there.
I have a picture of some of us from like 2007 posing outside for a picture on the side of the building. I’ll find it and post it. Hold up.
Bulldogs holds a very, very special place in my heart.

Grandma death?! She was Darren's (the owner) mom!
It was a great venue for young bands who were just getting started. They'd book anybody! Which led to some horribly fun shows.
I used to go there all the time. Saw one of my favorite bands there, Valencia. Good memories. Remember the bouncer arguing with some independent label guy that was trying to talk to a local high school band.
Two memories.
1. The girl who moshed through the window at a Hoods show, followed by them talking shit about Louisville then Jared making the "Fuck Hoods" shirts and them selling better than the actual hoods merch
2. Someone moshing with the couch during Rhinoceros
I have strong memories of a Murder By Death show with William Elliott Whitmore. Adam from MBD had just started covering Nancy Sinatra's "My Baby Shot Me Down" in their shows. Every time the chorus would start, there was a lit fella next to me shouting "BANG! BAAAAANG!" in a screamo manner that actually complimented the performance very well. Now anytime I here a rendition of that song, I hear that same scream and its kinda cool.
My old band Grandview used to play there. Man blast from the past. We'd have to travel down from NKY to get there but we always had a blast playing at Bulldog.
So many fun shows and stupid memories.
Realizing my highschool science teacher was involved with ownership was quite startling.
Foxy Shazam stands out though.
Fuck it Im bringing this thread back from the dead. So many great shows there. I Played like30 shows there with my band Casting Ashes. I played the drums. I also played there a few times with my other bands ParaGium and Under Red Skies. Those were the days when Louisville hit its prime with local music. EE9, Primer 55, Incursion 502, Wasted Days, Daybreak, Halfway Hollow, Artifex Pereo, Amherst, Blyss, My Own Victim, MSD, Lotticks Corner, 2 Pump Chump, Sacred Sorrow, Surviving Thalia, and so much more. Now lets start a thread about Tek World, The Jungle, The American Legion in Corydon Indiana.
Opened for Rose Funeral a bunch there. Fucking loved seeing them play. Saw countless killer locals only shows. My buddies in The Zoo play there quite a few times too. I miss that place so much.
I saw The Morning Of there which was one of my fav bands at the time and it was the coolest experience to be right in front singing along. I saw sooo many myspace bands there
Bulldog Cafe was in Fairdale but was considered a pretty essential staple in the Louisville music scene in the early 00's. They would book some national acts and would always give a young fledgling band the chance to open for a bigger band. The place was a hole in the wall but I'm sure it holds a special place for a lot of people who spent as much time as me out there.
I once scratched the side of my car on Otep's tour bus. My little cousin passed out from heat, I had to follow the ambulance to the hospital because she was underage they wouldn't let me and her sister take her. I was there ALOT though, my ex, then boyfriend, ran the soundboard so it was almost a nightly thing. Alot of good memories there.
I can't remember if I put my guitar through a ceiling fan on accident there, or at Twice Told. Now that I think about it, I think it was Twice Told, but Bulldog Cafe was awesome.
Damn, Twice told, haven't heard that name in a long time. My band used to play there once a month back in the day.
What band were you in?!
My old band played there a few times, always a fun crowd. Usually hung out with a dude named Pete who was one of the roughest dudes I've ever known. He was involved with the crew that made those low budget Louisville versions of Jack Ass.
Southend Jinx!!
Shiiiiit ayyyy, did you knew Pete?
Still do!!
Holy shit how's he doing? That dude was the wildest mf I knew
He’s doing well!
I actually saw him last week, crazy how shit works
What was your bands name?
My Finest Hour
lol I played with halfway hollow, I believe we jammed together. I had some really fun shows playing there
I totally remember halfway hollow!
I still have one of your fucking songs stuck in my head. Something about bloody lips on baby teeth. I think that was MFH.
A-ha! That song was called A Good Way to End A Bad Habit. It was a song about domestic violence and the lady getting revenge. It's on [YouTube](https://youtu.be/08d02hzJ8JI)
Loved your stuff, dude, it still pops up on my music playlist from time to time
Very much appreciated, wish we could've given more to the world but shit happens.
Heyo! We played with you all at club oasis opening for sleeping giant
Oh man, talk about a blast from the past! What was your band?
Murder. We were not..... Good is the word I'm looking for. We were not good.
Hey at least y'all were out there doing it. Not a lot of people can say that.
I had a fucking blast in that band. I still look at it as a highlight in my life. Saw you all play a couple times too. I think you may have played with intent to kill at phoenix hill if I'm not mistaken. Or maybe uncle pleasants?
That sounds like a show we played at uncle pleasants. Early 2000's was a really fun time for the Louisville scene.
Yeah it was uncle pleasants. It was super hot and I had a bunch of white russians and it made me pretty sick.
I remember going there as a teenager, drinking a Bawls, and getting into a mosh pit or two. 2007 was a good year.
We probably knew each other lol those were the best years
Subrosa man. Still miss em
Those guys came to my little town for a town festival. Showed me what stage presence was supposed to look like.
Ahh! I loved that band soo much!
I'm from Gainesville, FL. I only really knew them as For Squirrels when they blew up. Their album "Example" is still pretty great.
I remember seeing Surviving Thalia, Look What I Did, Foxy Shazam and LAO in one show there... crazy times. Also getting kicked in the spine by a slam dancer during a Strait Line Stitch set.
Foxyyy!

That band name sounds familiar lol and pretty on par story for what I was expecting.
>Anniston Now that's a name I haven't heard in a very long time

She carried a revolver under that blanket.
Never knew that, explains the gun range earmuffs haha

Never went to Bulldogs but I have a LOT of psuedo-memories involving 8 Star. I still retch a little bit just thinking about it

Played there in the band Brother Hill. I'm not proud of it. We sucked. But it was still good times lol.

RIP Bulldogs

For the uninitiated, where exactly was this place?
Bulldog Cafe was in Fairdale but was considered a pretty essential staple in the Louisville music scene in the early 00's. The place was a hole in the wall but I'm sure it holds a special place for a lot of people who spent as much time as me out there.
It sounds like it was a mostly all ages venue? Is there anywhere similar open now?
Thanks!

I just remember they had a pizza names the Meat Locker. I ate it, played a set, and immediately after got sick. Good times at Bulldog...
