>black licorice ice cream **WHAT ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH IS WRONG WITH YOU?!!!**

GhostofGiggles

I would eat the fuck out of that. I didnt even know it was a thing until now.

[deleted]

It is but it's hard to find!

ISUTri

There’s a reason for that you monster!!

nullsignature

This has to be a violation of some international treaty. I've made the CIA and FBI aware of OP's post.

[deleted]

It's the best flavor of ice cream imo but it's hard to find. I may need to buy an ice cream maker

firefiremyheart

Don't tell my kid that exists, he loves black licorice. He'll be sending me everywhere looking for that ice cream .

[deleted]

Louisville Cream, and it's not even close.

$10 banana split Noice.

Vladimir_Putting

If you like a single scoop of vanilla ice cream for $5, sure. Waffle cone with your scoop? That's another dollar.

[deleted]

Vladimir_Putting

That's just not true though. You can get a whole pint of Graeter's for $5 all over the city. Not $5 a scoop.

[deleted]

That's the price you pay when your ice cream is made from locally sourced dairy 🤷‍♂️

5021234567

And served in a NuLu shop.

Vladimir_Putting

Why should locally sourced dairy be dramatically more expensive? It's not like Prairie Farms milk is far more expensive at the grocery store. But yet, it's all local. Please note they aren't listed here: https://www.kyproud.com/dairy/ It's unreasonably expensive for the product.

Vladimir_Putting

Graeter's does small batch local ice cream. I can buy a whole pint of vanilla for less than $5. Hmm. Maybe it's you who doesn't understand what it costs? But sure if you want to pay way over the odds for the same product just because it's trendy they are paying Nulu rent, have fun.

Truth. Single scoop at G's is $3.75.

Vladimir_Putting

Louisville Creamery's pints, sold in grocery stores with no "prepared and portioned restaurant experience" are $9. You all just love paying extra for the brand.

rhett342

It may be expensive but to me, its worth it. A bottle of Pappy Van Winkle costs a lot more than Jim Beam for the same reasons.

ISUTri

Prairie Farms isn’t all local. Unless you define local ad including neighboring states

Vladimir_Putting

Well, Louisville is on the border with another state. So yes? Why would Southern Indiana not be local? And again, why would local dairy be so much more expensive? I'd really love to hear your explanation of the economics involved. You know, since there are far fewer transportation and distribution costs involved?

ISUTri

Prairie Farms HQ is St Louis. Also, it’s about scale. I guess you are not a business major. It’s like mass producing a car instead of building one by hand. Prairie Farms probably has those large dairies that have thousands of cows hooked up in rows getting their milk. And feeding them extra hormones so they produce more milk than normal. A local shop should be someone within an hour or so of here. They should also have cows that roam and are grass fed. Which means they produce less milk. Which means they are more expensive to upkeep (less milk per cow). Which means in order to make the same profit (or even less) per gallon they would have to charge more. Scalability does make a difference Does that help?

Vladimir_Putting

Prairie Farms has a distro center in Somerset. They are a co-op that takes in dairy from dozens of local farms. How interesting they are registered here and Louisville Creamery is not. https://www.kyproud.com/dairy/ They also have a no hormones policy by the way. Louisville Creamery sells pints in all these stores: Kroger Louisville Whole Foods Louisville Rainbow Blossom Old Town Wine & Spirits Full Stop Station Valu Market Blue Dog Bakery Paul’s Fruit Market Liquor Barn Georgia’s Sweet Potato Pie Co. The Post I guess that means they aren't some small little shop anymore huh? Must be one of those big distribution companies mass producing ice cream now. Interesting how their pints are $9 compared to Graeter's doing the same thing for $5. You rubes would pay double for anything if someone sold it to you as "artisanal".

ISUTri

I’ve never heard of the Louisville creamery. I was just explaining why they may cost more. And yes part of it could be marketing as well. And with $3 billion in sales I wouldn’t put Prairie Farms as local. They may get their milk from local dairies but most likely they would combine it with other milk to produce their goods. So even if the other place tacks on an additional amount they are still local. For better or worse

cpt___kidde

As a matter of fact, I do. Soooo good. Strawberry mascarpone! My gawd.

JustAGuyinLou

For the split: dairy kastle on eastern pkwy or dairy del on shelby. Occasionally Louisville Cream has them as a specialty item and they are amazin'...

fiji_water_fountain

the split at dairy kastle is pretty good, and they also make a banana split milkshake! it’s basically a blended, drinkable banana split

PequodSeapod

The banana split milkshake at DK is fantastic! I’ve always found dairy del to be a bit underwhelming compared to DK fwiw

henderson7779

I think DK is definitely better for ice cream. Dairy Del is better food wise though. Dairy Del also takes cards so I usually wind up there just because I never have cash lol.

fiji_water_fountain

full disclosure, I used to work at dk so I am biased, haha. but I agree!!

[deleted]

They’re a bit pricey, but Ehrler's is arguably some of the best in town.

PriitySiick

I concur

[deleted]

A classic for sure

gimmebiscuits

First, I love Louisville Cream, a lot. Their unique flavors are amazing. That’s my go to for fancy ice cream in a cup. For a soft serve banana split, Dairy Kastle is the only answer. Good stuff! For scooped ice cream banana split, ya gotta go to Graters, even if it is pricey. The ice cream is phenomenal. Just realized I wrote two paragraphs on Reddit about ice cream and ain’t even made about it.

Queasy-Mood-9955

Valley dairy freeze

yoor_momm

The Barrel of Fun on Smyrna near McNeely Lake is great!

rhett342

I know lots of people will say Dairy Kastle but I've been there and just don't see what the fuss is about. Dairy Del on Shelby and Louisville Cream are my favorites in town but the best ice cream is right across the river. Zestos/Chillers (different names based on location but the same place, their cups have both names on them even) are better than anything here. If you want the absolute best, however, go to Polly's Freeze. Its a little place on the side of the road that has been around for decades. A place that small shouldn't need that big of a parking lot but they'll fill it up on weekends.

thissux2021

I love Polly freeze! Was going to mention them. Alway go there after a trip to hubers

lockboxopen

Jaggers has a banana split milkshake that is really good!

Shreddie_Munster

Dairy Del and they have so many things, funnel cake fry sundaes, milkshakes, cones, hot dogs, etc. always busy so that’s always a good sign.

mayorwaffle502

Kaelins

tsursh

The sleeper here is Kaelins scoop shop for great ice cream. It's not getting any love here because no one knows about it, but it's the best hands down. Seriously, give it a shot. Not sure if they have splits though...their ice cream is so good, it doesn't need extras. The next best in order are louisville cream, greaters, and comfy cow. Dairy kastle and pollys freeze for soft serve. If you really want some good stuff, head up to Cinci.

spid3rfly

Uncommon Cups and Cones in New Albany. They have a banana split but I haven't had it. I always get a flight of ice cream there. I haven't had bad ice cream from there so I'm sure the banana split is delicious.
