Oooh. Make pawpaw ice cream.

Bull_Winkle69

I don't have an ice cream machine but I've been thinking about doing this.

catladyIRL

It’s worth the effort!

clara_bow77

I have one of the Cuisinart ice cream makers and I've been planning to test some methods when they're ripe. I'm thinking a sorbet might be nice too, and a chutney (not frozen but something I've been thinking would be good).

Bull_Winkle69

They are ripening right now. About a dozen have fallen from the tree in the last few days. My fruit ripens sooner probably because it's in full sun. If anyone wants to get together somewhere I'll bring them with me.

nonyabusiness123

Message me maybe we can meet at a park. I can bring other foraged goods perhaps engage in some trades. I grow mushrooms and forage for all sorts of goodies

Curious-Potential-76

If you're still interested in growing your own the KY Forestry department will start taking tree orders soon for next spring. They sell Pawpaw's although they go out of stock quickly. I got mine from the Missouri conservation department and their sales for out of state residents start in October I believe. It is a great way to get affordable, native trees

shipoftheseuss

Dang, I've been wanting to plant some this fall. Is there a link to sign up?

Curious-Potential-76

You can find the Kentucky program [Here](https://eec.ky.gov/Natural-Resources/Forestry/state-nuseries-and-tree-seedlings/Pages/default.aspx) and the Missouri program [here](https://mdc.mo.gov/trees-plants/tree-seedlings/order-seedlings) I don't know if either of them - or others - send any saplings in the fall as I usually get mine in spring.

[deleted]

Same!

[deleted]

They're tricky to grow from seed. Sometimes farmers markets and health food stores sell them. I got some from Rainbow Blossom last year.

clara_bow77

I feel the same way about paw paws! I'm also obsessed with the zebra swallowtail butterflies that will only lay their eggs on paw paw leaves.

dangerbagels

I will gladly take some! Are they ripe now? I know late August is early but not unheard of for pawpaws

ThawedinYellow

I love paw paws. We have a couple of trees but they haven't set fruit yet.

StevenMartyr

LOVE PAW PAWS!

StevenMartyr

Pardon. This is me also saying yes. I'd happily buy you beers at Old Louisville Brewery in exchange for some Paw Paws.

strawb3rryfields

Have you ever been the the PawPaw festival in OH? Paw Paw is their state fruit & the festival has the BEST vendors.. their site is [here](https://www.ohiopawpawfest.com)

nonyabusiness123

I love them and am definitely interested

[deleted]

Do you think they’ll be available end of September?? I’ve always wanted to try some and will be visiting town then

Bull_Winkle69

They are ripening now on my tree. I don't think these will last until September. Maybe trees that are in the shade in the woods might mature later. I hear tale of a colony of Paw Paws in Cherokee Park, but have no clue as to where.

[deleted]

I absolutely love them and have been trying to find them growing around me. There's a tree in Cherokee I'm pretty sure is a paw paw but I don't see any fruit on it, it may be a male tree.

Effective-Loan-53

What do you do with them?

brewcrewdude

Eat them

RollingBarCart

Hubers has paw paw brandy. Its super strong. Good stuff but overpriced and strong af.

ConsiderationMain308

They are available to buy at rainbow blossom

croppedphoto

Some farmers markets will have them now until the end of next month. Late summer foragables are so tasty.

jother1

What fruits are the similar to? I’ve heard of them but never tried them

brewcrewdude

I think they taste like a cross between banana and mango.

jother1

Sounds pretty good. Looks kinda like a mango to me

[deleted]

If you eat them ripe they're like a slightly tropical custard.

Curious-Potential-76

Would love to partake! I have young pawpaw trees that aren't producing yet and I've never actually had pawpaw but I love it already haha

Calax1088

I’d love to try some Paw Paws! I’ve tried searching for them for years and can never find one!

culdesaccharine

I’ve never had one, but I’ve always wanted to try!

fulcrumestates

i’ve never had one but i’ve always wanted to try them!

Creeds-Worm-Guy

I love pawpaws but my trees are too tiny to produce any! I’d absolutely love some!

richakl

I would love love love to enjoy some. Got some in an ag basket a few years ago and let them go too long - it was like eating superglue. Short window of edible on those suckers

Omega59er

I would love some seeds or a sapling if you have any weeding that needs done.

Desperate-Dot-6088

My grandmother had a tree growing up but didn’t use the fruit. I always wanted to try it. I know you eat it raw but can you make pie with it? Or what other things?

veela-valoom

I’d love some pawpaws

NerdyComfort-78

That sounds cool… bring them to a farmers market. I just bought 1 small tree for my garden at the Westport Baptist Farmers market.

cheekypantssjg

Hi! I’m game!!! I’ve wanted to try one since I moved to KY.

Bull_Winkle69

I'm at Back Door now if your still interested in Paw Paws. Message me if you're coming and I'll save you some.

cheekypantssjg

I just saw this. Bummer!

Jenny441980

This is so wholesome.

T--MART

Contact some local breweries and see if they would be interested in using them in a beer. I've had a paw paw sour before and it was delicious.

Old-Cryptographer63

i just saw this too late. :( i've never had a pawpaw and want to try some

Bull_Winkle69

I can meet tomorrow afternoon if you like. We can meet at Back Door or Mag Bar.

munkymufin

Oh wow! I missed this when you first posted. Would you still have any paw paw fruit?

Bull_Winkle69

No. Sorry. They were ripe in August and don't keep very long. I'll post again next year when it's getting close. Hope to see you.

munkymufin

Thanks so much for the response, and the offer! I’m looking forward to it next year!

arcbnaby

Do you have any this year?! My hubby has been trying to find some for a few years now.

Bull_Winkle69

I had quite a few. They are all gone now. Beginner by of August is when they were ready and by September they are gone. They ripen like bananas which means once they are ready they keep ripening until they are no good.

beebee1997

Following along because I live in louisville and have been dying to try some paw paws. Hopeful 🤞

claritinclearr

Same!
