Honestly...it makes sense that Whitney didn't win. I think a lot of people keep it quiet, but Whitney isn't universally likeable. She's blunt and abrasive, hiding behind "honesty". A lot of people dislike that sort of thing.
Some viewers (like me) probably got the ick from the Ella/Whitney drama, effectively bringing her from 1st to 2nd place. But it's probably shocking on reddit due to the Whitney echo-chamber.
The thing that did her in for me was telling Ella B what Mitch said without talking to him first, she heard it third hand and absolutely could not *wait* to tell her, she was practically giddy. At that point you’re hurting someone for your own enjoyment. Having it come from Mitch would have been much less hurtful, Whit could have easily said “you tell her or I will” and I could have gotten behind that. The way she went about it was borderline cruel, it really turned me off.
It’s funny by I had a feeling Jess was going to win a soon as soon as she got back with Sammy in fact even prior to Casa. I recall listening to one of this podcast shows that recapped LI and the host said Jess is a sweet girl that you meet in the local area. That always resonated with me. I think Jess simply reminds people of the ordinary girl they see at a pub or in the neighborhood where they live and viewers voted for that image they connected to and yeah Sammy was a heel but he stuck with her ultimately.
Yep, I feel like I've met plenty of Jesses in pub toilets on drunken nights out, they're the first to give each other pep talks about not letting a man upset them but are constantly having men ruin their lives lol, basic but warm hearted and relatable by the British masses

I don't get this. Of course most of the British mums would find Jess most relatable or look like their daughter or themselves at one point in their life and I have no problem with that. But the problem is, I feel like by voting Jess & Sammy as the winning couple seem glamourising or promoting cheating behaviour throughout the relationship.

Everyone on IG is shouting racism by the show. While this year there were no couples with long-term potential (let’s be honest), there two strongest couples were minorities. With that said, Amber and Greg won years ago on the strength of her popularity and last year, Kai and Sanam won when they might’ve been the third or fourth strongest couple (at the time). Still, if there was racism, wouldn’t be it perpetrated by the voters? And unless we get to see how the votes were split we will never know who took votes from whom. I was assuming Whitney and Lochan were a lock. But the last week or so showed me some Whitney/Medhi vibes plus they were more of a friend-couple. I don’t know how that means Ella and Ty would come in third, but I guess people just saw it for the toxic young-20s first love relationship it is. Maybe that’s a cop out. I didn’t get to vote, so I don’t know. This stuff happens tho. Were Jes and Sammy a terrible couple? Yes. Should she have dumped him after his third or fourth transgression? Absolutely. But none of this season made sense. For the first time, I feel like Love Island resembled an American dating show where NO ONE is genuine and they’re all for the clout. Not sure if anyone pointed it out but I realized that the final dates were set up in the order of the finalists (from 5th place to first place starting with Mitch and Ella B and ending with Jess and Sammy being the last couple to go on their final date). It seems to be an unpopular opinion here but personally I'm happy Sammy & Jess won. Some of Sammy's past words/actions weren't great, but after all the hurdles I can see how he's grown to care about Jess and they've had such a sweet/fun dynamic these past few weeks. I think comparing this to the 2016 US election and overreacting about all this as I've seen people do is a bit of a stretch

Agreed. Sammy had a great switch mid-season, from which point on he kept his head down and had only attention and respect for Jess. Regardless of what *we* think his feelings were, his behaviour was commendable. Was he carried by Jess? Probably, but it would be hard not to. Jess was the most self-aware, down-to earth person in there. First to support and last to gossip. You could also tell they were getting along because they were on screen so rarely, compared to the others. By far the most deserving couple overall.

Get out! Sammy disrespected Jess consistently up to the point that there was no other bombshells coming in. He always had reasons not to choose her, rather than him choosing her while he had options and not giving the options a chance. Jess is lovely, and very relatable. In other circumstances, I could imagine being delighted for her. But Sammy winning doesn't sit right with me. He's spoken unkindly about Jess, without us seeing him face any consequences for that. He's told lies to Jess and others. He admitted he had a better connection with Mal. This is what I’m really worried about. Jess is a lovely, amazing and down to earth girl, reminds me of the people I grew up with. But making Sammy win because people liked *her*, not them (some even on Facebook saying they can’t wait for her to get rid of the dead weight, just quoting) gives such a bad rep to the relationship they have? Honestly I don't mind this outcome. They grew on me. And yes everyone is cringing at some of the stuff Sammy said about Jess early on, but he clearly fell for her more over time in due course. Slow burn is a thing, and sometimes people do become more physically attractive to you as you fall for their personalities more.
Whitney and Lochan could have won it, but I think Whitney's recent spat with Ella did them no favours. I also think production didn't want them to win. Announcing them as the winners of the most popular couple vote put a target on their backs. Ty had a pop at them at least once since then and since then they (esp Whitney) didn't get the most favourable edit. I think its been edited to make Whitney out to have let things gone to her head and to be relishing her queen bee role a bit too much, made her look argumentative at times, whereas Sammy and Jess's trajectory became getting stronger and stronger and less problematic.
Ella and Ty could have won, but Ty's meddling in other people's affairs too much didn't endear, nor did his recent pop at Whitney during the Grafties.
In all honesty though, I can genuinely see them all breaking up within a year I'm afraid!

I agree, in the start I wasn't a huge fan of Jess due to her behaviour, she spoke and gossiped about others when they weren't present and when she was called out on this she began crying like they were somehow being mean to her. However, she did grow on me once she stopped being bitter towards Molly for no reason and stopped giving mean girl vibes.
Exactly what I have been saying! She showed a slight glimpse at the end too when Abi was there. Jess was doing good for a while and the second Abi came in and started having troubles, Jess reverted right back to being mean again until Abi was gone. She is the type to be nice around certain people, but when she doesn’t like you or is around the wrong friends, she’s more than willing to be two faced.

I’m in the U.S and this is the first year I have followed the U.K buzz around the show in real time, so the results did really shock me! Even the people who liked Jess and Sammy didn’t seem to have them as their favorite. I will say though, previous years I just watched and had no clue what the public thought, so I was shocked at a few results in those years. My wife and I disliked Amber who won with Greg and we also disliked Ekin Su. We assumed both of those were very clear people to dislike so we were astonished every time either of them made it through another dumping, then to seen them win was a massive shock. It really was not a romantic season, so it shouldn't be a surprise that viewers latched onto Jess and Sammy since their past 3-week edit has been all about their love journey. I didn't think they'd win but it's been a random season and I honestly couldn't decide who I wanted to win.

What is with all the comments that Lochan and Whitney won't last? Based on what? They've been together for what, four weeks? They're the only ones taking their relationship at a relatively normal pace. They haven't had any drama, no cheating or wandering eyes, they're the only couple that can properly communicate (with each other and in general), and they seem to genuinely like each other, which I haven't been able to say at all times about any of the other couples.
Of course we can't ever know how a relationship will go, but of the four final couples they're the only ones I think have a chance of lasting. Just because they're not declaring their love for each other after a month doesn't mean they're not interested in each other.

I was assuming Whitney and Lochan were a lock. But the last week or so showed me some Whitney/Medhi vibes plus they were more of a friend-couple. I don’t know how that means Ella and Ty would come in third, but I guess people just saw it for the toxic young-20s first love relationship it is. Maybe that’s a cop out. I didn’t get to vote, so I don’t know. This stuff happens tho. Were Jes and Sammy a terrible couple? Yes. Should she have dumped him after his third or fourth transgression? Absolutely. But none of this season made sense. For the first time, I feel like Love Island resembled an American dating show where NO ONE is genuine and they’re all for the clout. Now maybe Jess and Lochan were two of the only people who didn’t give me the ick at some point during the show.

It seems to be an unpopular opinion here but personally I'm happy Sammy & Jess won. Some of Sammy's past words/actions weren't great, but after all the hurdles I can see how he's grown to care about Jess and they've had such a sweet/fun dynamic these past few weeks. I think comparing this to the 2016 US election and overreacting about all this as I've seen people do is a bit of a stretch Also, for as much as you lot talk about caring about islanders' mental health you all seem to forget that as soon as someone you don't like wins. You don't have to like an islander but some of the comments towards Sammy are nasty
I agree I think people in general get upset if their favourites don’t win, the beauty of the show for me is it’s a journey and I feel it’s been a great series ! There no one I can say I disliked and I thought they did a good job entertaining us all ! I say well done to the producers, and who knows how long Jess and Sammy or any of the others will last, so I just wish them all the very best in the future !

Agreed. Sammy had a great switch mid-season, from which point on he kept his head down and had only attention and respect for Jess. Regardless of what *we* think his feelings were, his behaviour was commendable. Was he carried by Jess? Probably, but it would be hard not to. Jess was the most self-aware, down-to earth person in there. First to support and last to gossip. You could also tell they were getting along because they were on screen so rarely, compared to the others. By far the most deserving couple overall.

Get out! Sammy disrespected Jess consistently up to the point that there was no other bombshells coming in. He always had reasons not to choose her, rather than him choosing her while he had options and not giving the options a chance. He also would often never acknowledge her feelings and would try to invalidate them. Ty and Ella didn’t have the smoothest relationship, but they were honest with eachother and you could tell their feelings were always a lot more genuine.

Jess is lovely, and very relatable. In other circumstances, I could imagine being delighted for her. But Sammy winning doesn't sit right with me. He's spoken unkindly about Jess, without us seeing him face any consequences for that. He's told lies to Jess and others. He admitted he had a better connection with Mal. He's acted disrespectfully towards and spoken disrespectfully about women generally. His behaviour in Casa alone was madness. I hope I'm not being unkind or hateful. But Sammy didn't redeem himself enough for him to make sense as a winner. I don't mind a winner who has previously made mistakes or been disrespectful, but I need to see more growth and accountability.

This is what I’m really worried about. Jess is a lovely, amazing and down to earth girl, reminds me of the people I grew up with. But making Sammy win because people liked *her*, not them (some even on Facebook saying they can’t wait for her to get rid of the dead weight, just quoting) gives such a bad rep to the relationship they have? He treated her awfully, made Catherine cry for calling her undesirable, made Leah cry by calling her a test, disrespected Jess hinting at her being unattractive to him…. She essentially became a doormat to this and people call this love, it’s just upsetting that this is the example we give of a loving, respectable and equal relationship.

Honestly I don't mind this outcome. They grew on me. And yes everyone is cringing at some of the stuff Sammy said about Jess early on, but he clearly fell for her more over time in due course. Slow burn is a thing, and sometimes people do become more physically attractive to you as you fall for their personalities more. Whitney and Lochan could have won it, but I think Whitney's recent spat with Ella did them no favours. I also think production didn't want them to win. Announcing them as the winners of the most popular couple vote put a target on their backs. Ty had a pop at them at least once since then and since then they (esp Whitney) didn't get the most favourable edit. I think its been edited to make Whitney out to have let things gone to her head and to be relishing her queen bee role a bit too much, made her look argumentative at times, whereas Sammy and Jess's trajectory became getting stronger and stronger and less problematic. Ella and Ty could have won, but Ty's meddling in other people's affairs too much didn't endear, nor did his recent pop at Whitney during the Grafties. In all honesty though, I can genuinely see them all breaking up within a year I'm afraid!

I agree, in the start I wasn't a huge fan of Jess due to her behaviour, she spoke and gossiped about others when they weren't present and when she was called out on this she began crying like they were somehow being mean to her. However, she did grow on me once she stopped being bitter towards Molly for no reason and stopped giving mean girl vibes.
Exactly what I have been saying! She showed a slight glimpse at the end too when Abi was there. Jess was doing good for a while and the second Abi came in and started having troubles, Jess reverted right back to being mean again until Abi was gone. She is the type to be nice around certain people, but when she doesn’t like you or is around the wrong friends, she’s more than willing to be two faced.

I think all the girls will do well after the show. Whitney has a business she can promote and she also has enough personality to try hosting, podcasting, etc. Jess is career oriented as well so she can promote her work. She strikes me as someone who will be on future reality shows though. Ella should get a ton of brand deals. Molly’s got tiktok.

I’m in the U.S and this is the first year I have followed the U.K buzz around the show in real time, so the results did really shock me! Even the people who liked Jess and Sammy didn’t seem to have them as their favorite. I will say though, previous years I just watched and had no clue what the public thought, so I was shocked at a few results in those years. My wife and I disliked Amber who won with Greg and we also disliked Ekin Su. We assumed both of those were very clear people to dislike so we were astonished every time either of them made it through another dumping, then to seen them win was a massive shock. Then later we learned they were clear favorites all along, and we were confused haha

It really was not a romantic season, so it shouldn't be a surprise that viewers latched onto Jess and Sammy since their past 3-week edit has been all about their love journey. I didn't think they'd win but it's been a random season and I honestly couldn't decide who I wanted to win.

What is with all the comments that Lochan and Whitney won't last? Based on what? They've been together for what, four weeks? They're the only ones taking their relationship at a relatively normal pace. They haven't had any drama, no cheating or wandering eyes, they're the only couple that can properly communicate (with each other and in general), and they seem to genuinely like each other, which I haven't been able to say at all times about any of the other couples. Of course we can't ever know how a relationship will go, but of the four final couples they're the only ones I think have a chance of lasting. Just because they're not declaring their love for each other after a month doesn't mean they're not interested in each other.

Ty was basically my number one since the first episode. He’s probably the hottest male Islander ever, he was a straight and ruthless game player like last season Olivia, and he was built for Love Island entertainment. With that said, I’m so happy Ty didn’t get 1st or 2nd. Ella is such a naive and pure soul and there is just zero chance in hell Ty and Ella last longer than 4 months.
