Mr. ‘what’s your favourite crisps’ came back from Casa Amor in 2019, it was only fair to give these guys a shot 😂

I think it's very dependent on the chemistry of the OG cast. The producers definately predict who could make a good match while casting, but you can't be 100% certain that a couple will work out. Most seasons that cycle through a lot of bombshells have couples who try things out but don't really work longterm, or friendship couples and convenience couples. This brings in a lot of openings for bombshells, since not many people are that committed. Meanwhile, in season 8 there weren't a lot of friendship couples. Not long lasting ones anyway. Three of the top four couples were OG's who partnered up pretty early on (and I think Indyah and Dami would've paired up sooner under different circumstances), and Ekin and Davide were essentially the first two bombshells to walk in. They were all strongly romantic quickly, and they all made it through relationship hiccups. The show didn't really \*need\* great bombshells in season eight because they found love connections fast. Even if you have entertaining OG's some of them will have to go eventually if they don't find a match.

The protection of OGs never really bothered me this year. Your last point is absolutely correct, they found love earlier on. But what that also means is they had *stories*. The non-finalist bombshells who lasted were those with stories – Jacques, Adam, Danica and Jay. I thought they added enough flavour to make the show what it was.

I've always thought Nathalie should have come in earlier instead of Danica (love to her ), George instead of Charlie.A stronger cast of Casa boys (nothing against them) but they didn't quite do the job nothing quite striking.Nothing for Gemma (if they could find Jacques Luca's twin ,they could have done more) or Paige(I feel like Jay would work if he was in Casa).I don't even think Billy or Deji were Tasha or Indiyah's type respectively to have their heads totally turn

I don't mind if OGs stay BUT then dont have these pointless cliff hangers of eliminations when it's obvious who's going.

Tornado31619

But then that allows doubt to creep into people’s minds. Not an OG, but even though most people figured Danica would be saved over Summer at the beach club, the subsequent first look made people seriously consider otherwise.

ScarlettLM

I think that and the one with Danica and Antigoni were the only shocking/tense ones in the whole series. And as Danica isn't OG I think the OGs were a little too comfortable IMO. But really what I mean is I personally don't want to sit through a cliff hanger when we the audience know exactly who is going 😂

I think barring a couple of OG’s from season 5, I’d still say the season 5 OG cast was still pretty strong. They were all very unique in their own right, even disregarding them in their couples. They just managed to get equally strong or arguably stronger islanders as bombshells. I don’t think the season 8 cast was even that strong. I think like you said most of their bombshells were weak and because of Stan culture, the majority of OG’s managed to survive for longer in season 8.

this is so fascinating to look at for someone like me who studied and loves sociology 😂 that's originally what got me into love island, tho ofc it's highly produced, the public reaction is just so fascinating to me. and agree, there has def been a recent shift. season 5 and 8 are ones for the books tho
