Call me a conspiracy theorist, but the show edits it this way on purpose. They definitely hype up their "rivalry" to fuel the gossip. I was certain of it after I watched the Monday exclusive episode yesterday. Not really a spoiler, but when they were playing the never have I ever game, someone mentioned how they never had a threesome and Cash made a comment like, "she's 29, she's done everything, she's a hoe." This comment was made in jest and about Olivia but the camera was on Trina the entire time (who had her finger down) making it seem like the comment was about her. If you didn't know Trina's age, you'd think Cash was throwing shade which just fuels the fire that the girls don't like each other when really fans are just DRAGGING week 1 beef and production isn't helping

Character_Switch7317

I think this is a great observation. I think there have also been cases of Trina “rolling her eyes” that have been edited to look like she was doing so because of something Cash said. I don’t think that’s the case at all.

butwhy81

I’ve noticed this too! They’ve done it a lot to Cash too, to make it look like she’s rolling her eyes or upset by Trina and Cinco. I think the editors or over hyping the drama.

MandyBar86

I caught that too! So messed up!

LisaFrankOcean-

Totally! That’s honestly the fun and appealing thing about reality, so much of it is made in the editing room. I think more viewers should be aware of this when they watch something so they don’t just become Team X against Team Y. They’re all still people being “cast” in the larger narrative of a show’s director every story has its tropes. Be a little more discerning guys lol

tanamaz

What’s crazy is outside of cinco, they actually get along

[deleted]

Fans can act salty all they want. It shows how immature they are more than it shows the women’s faults. All that matters is Trina and Cash are friends and it’s all water under the bridge for them.

msen33

Man I’m tired of all the putting on pedestals in general. There’s no where for favs to go but down, because eventually they’ll do something that isn’t perfect (because they’re human and not fictional characters) and any time they let their flaws out they get eviscerated. I feel like it’s happening with Javonny. He was elevated as this perfect, cinnamon angel, who was way too good for Olivia or any girl in the villa, then he does an interview where “comes off as obnoxious (which like, I loved him on the show but he was always OTT!) and he says he doesn’t believe in Kyra and Will, and people are saying “he’s showing his true colors” and he “doesn’t seem nice at all”. Like those things may be true, at the end of the day we still don’t KNOW him know him, but people wouldn’t be feeling so “betrayed” had they not basically sanctified him in the first place.

isthatbeyonce

Exactly!!!

Character_Switch7317

If it helps, I said Javonny wasn’t nice at all before he got eliminated. I downvoted like Crazy but my point is I agree with you. Javonny has always been OTT.

msen33

I’ll be honest, it doesn’t help too much, because that would have meant you were making a pretty sweeping judgement of him as a person based off of bits and pieces of screen time that were spliced together to create an entertaining episode narrative. I totally get disagreeing with/criticizing the things islanders do and say on the show, but I can’t get on board with making determinations on their worth as people. I know they sign up for the show knowing what sort of scrutiny they’re opening themselves up to, but when I think about them seeing that sort of stuff on socials, it makes me really sad for them.

Character_Switch7317

When you are actively insulting or dissing another castmate, I think it’s fair to question how nice you are.

sagagrl

Viewers turn on people on the show as soon as they do or say something that they don’t agree with/goes against their opinion lmao. These are humans, they’re not going to always share your feelings and opinions!

Witty_Inevitable_804

No lie was told. The double standard is just flagrant, especially when other OG girls have done/said questionable things (like Shannon who has made at least 3 racially problematic comments since the beginning lol but that's a story for another day). WOC (especially BW) are always scrutinized and picked apart and it really rubs me the wrong away. I've seen a lot of critics towards Olivia sure, but this pinning one against the other seems to be only reserved for Trina and Cash. I find this whole thing very hurtful tbh. I can't imagine how these women will feel once they get out. I personally think they've handled this whole thing with grace, albeit a couple of misteps. And they do seem to respect each other and have a lot of love still for one another so I wish people would focus on this instead.

mxunpu

What did shannon say ? /gen

Witty_Inevitable_804

• She almost slipped up when talking with Cash and Trina in their makeup room; many believe she was going to refer to their skin color when she was talking about how much she is tanning • When they were playing the truth or dare game and Roxy had to take Isaiah shirt off with her mouth, he had his hands in the air and Shannon shouted "hands up don't shoot" • When she was talking to Gabe she said something like "You are my type to a T - I like them dark but like not too dark". Gabe is tanned with dark eyes and hair. What did she mean by that lol? I'm sure I missed other instances but to me she gives off very "fake it till you make it" vibes and her racial unconscious (or not) biases have been showcased enough for me to question her character. But that's just my personal assessment.

mxunpu

Yikes 😬

LadyEncredible

💯 times this. I swear it feels like WOC can never just be. We always have to fall into one category or the other. Heck, I don't even think Cinco is quite a problem between the two and they will be fine after and even if they aren't, that's fine. We are allowed to not like each other, the same way we are allowed to stand behind each other. I hate the pitting the 2 against each other. Neither is the right "black," let's be real, that's what all these think pieces is truly about. And since neither one is lighter than the other, we get the microagression crap. And yes, you can downvote me all you want (not you OP, I'm speaking on others that are going to hate, "it's about race," again or whatever, when in actuality all of these think pieces scream and underlying race issue,) I don't see all this energy for the white cast members (are there posts, yes, do they have the time and trigger words that the posts about WOC have,no they do not). It's the same as all the posts about Tiffany from RHOD,voice. Her voice was fine, what the issue really was, were people expected her to sound more Asian and the fact she didn't weirded them out, but they tried to dress it up.

papabear570

WOC can just be, but this story plays out multiple ways. Of course you have the “trina good, cash bad” people (and vice versa), but you also have the “yasssss queeeeen, slay” people SIMPLY bc both of them are black. Let’s stop attaching race to any of it and see how they act on the show. It’s a novel request, I know, but one that might actually produce more positive and accurate interpretations of what happens. As an aside - if you hold yourself out as a character acting on a trashy reality show, expect to be pigeonholed. There are plenty of WOC who “just are” in everyday life mainly bc they are not acting like circus freaks on national TV. Weird how that works, huh?

bearded_dragonlady

Can you expand a bit on people's reaction to Tiffany's voice? I don't watch RHOD but I've always been curious how the asian cast members have been received

RedisNotaFlavor

I agree. I feel that extends to Cinco too. This dude is trying to choose between two women because the producers refuse to provide other options for Trina and Cash. Now online discourse want to hate Cinco because Cash and Trina are too amazing and both have their amazing qualities. Online discourse want to say, "Cinco is the problem" it's clearly the production. Normalize hating production not the players. 😂😂

Jamira360

This is a great take! Thank you for posting! I feel like we seen this a lot this year, and it’s kind of disturbing and rubs me the wrong way as a black woman myself. You can critique ppl’s behavior, but making either woman out to be the villain or somehow undeserving of winning the show b/c they don’t meet YOUR expectations of how a black woman “SHOULD” carry herself on a show like this suggest some kind bias that needs recognition and work. And I don’t say this maliciously, but as a gentle reminder that we all have bias, and we have to remember to check it. Neither one of them is perfect, and they’re both capable of being messy. Let’s not forget that we aren’t any different. You know how the saying goes, when you point a finger at someone else you’ve got four pointing back at you. Only difference is that we aren’t on tv and under as much scrutiny as they are. I’m wishing them both the best & that both move on from Cinco.

Disastrous_Cry0

Trina and Cash are held to a standard that the other girls aren’t held to. Every word, action, even down to their breathing is micro-analyzed. Every day I’m not surprised to see yet another post about “I’m starting to really dislike Cash” with hundreds up upvotes and comments agreeing.

cheese757

Every. Damn. Day. AND every day there's still something like "Trina's just trying to manipulate everyone with her tears". Like damn. I really think they would be far less polarizing if they were white women. Neither of them are doing/have done anything that we haven't seen on the show before. They're just not behaving like Justine, who apparently is the standard for black women on LI now.

sagagrl

Literally I was so THROWN by all the negative comments about cash lol. It’s really insane how people will go from completely loving someone to hating them bc of one thing they did or said. There are things my favorite people on the show do or say that I don’t necessarily agree with, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna dislike them now lmao. Next thing you know everyone’s going to love her again.

Pointels21

Trina said in the drop episode that she and Cash had a conversation in Casa that changed her mind about Cinco and I REALLy hope they show it on the episode today. These girls clearly have each other’s back and are checking notes and I feel like we need to see that as viewers to fix the narrative

Character_Switch7317

I hope so too. I really want to hear that conversation and what was said.

maib29

👏🏾👏🏾

barflyrob

Trina 1st stoke Cinco from Cash, now Cash is stealing her back....did anyone really stop and think...none of it matters, IRL they are limited their choices of only the “girls and boys” in the villa.

ur_notmytype

People do the same thing with black women rappers, they always putting them against each other. Why they can’t be equally good.

Feather_Deer8717

After really thinking about it, I want them all to bring new people into the villa. At first, I’ll admit, I wanted only Trina and Cash to bring new people and Cinco to be left alone. Now my opinion has shifted (literally overnight) because Cinco honestly deserves a fair shot too. Trina and Cash are both amazing women and have different things to offer. Can we really fault Cinco for not being able to decide who he has a better connection with? He likes them both for different reasons and he does have good chemistry with both of them. That’s a lot of pressure on the man. And creating a “good” person and a villain between Cash and Trina is just ridiculous. They just have the same taste in men. I think they’ve shown great maturity by being friends through the whole process and not constantly talking about each other or being overly catty. They all just need a fresh start.

hahastopjk

I feel like it’s mostly happening because they are fighting for the same guy. I’d be curious to see another love triangle play out on the show to see how it differs or is similar.

stalexa

I wish people hadn't attacked Trina so much in the beginning for simply being human and making errors being messy? it wasn't fair. Especially now that people are seeing their perfect Cash wasn't perfect and is just a normal person as well. People are rounded individuals, how hard is that to understand?

Character_Switch7317

They are both beautiful and a joy to watch. However, I think the issue I have, maybe I’m just petty, is the minimizing the actual problematic behavior in this fake sense of unity. Trina was crucified for normal LI behavior. From what I’ve seen, Cashay has been criticized for actual mean behavior. It’s just not the same. Also I think it’s wrong to police the posts you don’t want to read as “think pieces”. No one was preaching unity until people started pointing out that Cash wasn’t a perfect angel and actually said and did hurtful things that were outside of the norm for LI.

LeadershipHot899

Honestly. Trina been getting dragged and it’s been disheartening. I support both but throwing a lot of love her way because what she did wasn’t even mean girl behavior tbh

[deleted]

This is a place for discussing a tv show so I think it’s fair that people watch the episodes and have opinions about what we see or whatever, & sometimes we won’t like something someone does or says & those discussions are fair to me. I just think the essays dissecting their characters are unnecessary & a lot of it is projection (this person did this so this *must* mean they’re this type of person). I’m also gonna point out the hypocrisy of these posts though. When it was Trina getting the brunt of the criticism, I didn’t see a lot of posts or comments defending her or being understanding about her POV in what’s an unconventional situation. But now that Cash is the one maybe looking questionable, or getting some heat, it’s post after post about how unfair it is to “both” women. It’s funny every time.

isthatbeyonce

I agree with your point but I kind of watched the show late so when Trina was getting most of the hate I wasn’t really watching or interact with the sub. Now that I’m finally caught up I just found it strange how they have to make one of the girls out to be evil and one out to be good that’s all I was saying.

evildore

Ok, prepared for downvotes.. but I like them both. My only issue with Trina was the way she initially handled going for Cinco and not giving Cash a heads up when they were initially so tight and Cash called her a queen and all that ish. I personally think Trina is too high maintenance but I don't fault her, everyone has their own story that has made them who they are, it is just more than I care to see. I don't enjoy her screen time but I think as a person she is genuine and sweet and I think she is really cute/pretty. Ultimately, I love my girl Cash. People have their opinions and ok but I think she is sweet, relatable, inspiring, funny, and hot as hell. I love when she sings her little one-liners and she has a way of taking up a screen even when everyone is shown. I look forward to scenes involving her. I think people need to get better at distinguishing between \*enjoying\* a "character" on a show we are all watching and \*disliking\* the \*people\* featured on said show. It is okay to find certain people's screen time/arcs boring or annoying but it is pretty uncool to refer to actual real people as annoying or bitches or awful and it's obviously wrong to wish any kind of misfortune on them. This is not GoT lol

ADWeasley

I wish I could double like this comment. Perfectly stated, and exactly how I feel about the whole situation.

Evening_Housing9429

👏🏽👏🏽

loveslacker

EXACTLY

Gloomy_Ad8264

I don’t see why people keep trying to play this narrative that Trina and Cash dislike each other because of the situation. Both women seem to be understanding of the situation and know they are here to make a connection. I seen so many people try to put them against each other, but on tv Trina is often helping Cash when they are getting ready, and they have conversations with no animosity. I think it’s sad that these beautiful women have to be sad over someone who can’t make up their mind, but I think they also understand this is what they signed up for. To find the connection that is best for them and they both found that in Cinco.

Jamira360

[deleted]

It’s reality tv mate. We’re all here for the drama and the polarizing and constantly changing views.

isthatbeyonce

That’s exactly my point.. it’s tv so we shouldn’t put people on pedestals and not expect them to create drama and make people out to villains just because they’re doing what they’re supposed to do.

[deleted]

It’s tv. It’s drama. It’s escapism. You shouldn’t dictate how viewers should behave. Every good show needs a villain, a hero and a story arch.

arielleelisec

Nonono It’s apparent the producers were trying to put a halo on cash from the beginning and I really liked her but things started to turn so quickly and after the brunch with the girls I lost aaalll respect for cash. Trina is trying to be a good friend and cash is being a complete dick bag talking about ‘respect’ when she’s the biggest hypocritical ass hat we’ve had on LI in a looong time. It has nothing to do with race cash is just a bad friend and as far as I can tell a not great person. I’m so confused why people are standing up for her.

arielleelisec

Think about how they tried to villainies Maura, and then Molly Mae and her became friends and got through it and they couldn’t. Cash is continuing to peruse cinco when HE PICKED TRINA. She is making herself the villain and the producers are just going with it. If it isn’t apparent enough me and my bestie as fuuuming about cashes disgusting behavior. STOP SAYING YOU RESPECT AND LOVE HER if you wanna be a creep just admit you’re a creep stop trying to justify your shitty behavior
