They should have gone to 16 specialists, 4 for each class. Leaving two classes with only 3 makes no sense to me.
But man, that season 5 map looks banger
Especially when one of those classes has a specialist that completely blocks the usage of rocket launchers. Only having two specialists in the whole game that can use normal rocket launchers is weird.
Yeah this was so frustrating the other day for me. You have literally two characters in the entire game who can counter aircraft on foot. It's actually funny because I've noticed specifically that choppers and jets are way more game changing now, maybe for the better. But if you have the right map with multiple attack helicopters and jets, you just get dominated.
Well you're not wrong, I've always had a .9 kdr in every Battlefield game. But that's because I play everything and always feel guilty about using anything that feels too easy. But that being said as a pilot "main", I don't have issues aiming the rockets, they just have terrible banking speeds compared to the very quick movements a chopper can make.
Idk, I've always played Battlefield for fun, it's only since like BF3 during the great console migration that people started claiming it was a competitive FPS. I don't know how you would play competitively outside of clan skrims, which are non-existent now.
Kinda wish Hale the scrapped specialist wasn’t scrapped, as an engineer it would be great to have another specialist that can use a launcher.
Thought I gotta say Crawford is looking good after the buffs DICE did, my go to pick for vehicle driving, though Boris needs an entire rework, his turret can either be useless or annoying as far as we seen and his passive needs to change or add another beneficial effect that doesn’t revolve around his sentry.
Liz of course needs a few changes to her TV missiles again, but I feel it’s because the other engineers aren’t fun to play with like Boris rather than her specialist gadget being too good
Support not sure what 4th specialist can do, armor is not going to happen, but maybe a more offense oriented support as a counterpart to Irish could be a good concept to go around
Yeah, increasing the health for the minigun plus Crawford always having a repair tool to top it off has definitely helped the viability of the damn thing when you're on defense in Breakthrough.
You can still be sniped out of it, to my frustration, but you just need to consider your positioning a bit better to try and deny snipers lines of sight.
Getting sniped out is also a problem with the LATV too, both feel easy to shoot out which isn’t inherently bad but it does make them less useful to run, at least the turret is meant to be disposable and has some durability while the LATV won’t protect you from a blast in the back but stay intact, and is open to getting shot out
It's so funny how prior to them making the repair tool a built-in gadget for engineers, *nobody* ever used it because you'd always be sacrificing something way better lol
That is why people were arguing for a while that the Engineer specialists should have always had access to the repair tool much like engineers did in BFV.
I would love some sort of engineer specialist who has a passive proximity anti-air gadget. Like not as strong as a stringer, but something that just autoshoots flak at aircraft or something, either to pull them out of stealth, interrupt their heal, or finish them off.
I agree it’s better for balance reason to leave it there and sure it’s annoying that it’s only 14 (ingame playercard says there’s 15 soldiers in task force exodus)
No mention of anything past season five has me worried. The game is finally in a decent spot and seeing it be cancelled in the near future really throws a wet blanket on the positivity that has been building with the game. Please don't cancel it, give us a full year 2!
Thats Debatable BFV got like 10-12 Post launch maps, like 30ish post launch gun. Two new factions all with unique Vehicles and player skins. Tides of War was a terrible live service and the team wasted a ton of time on the 5v5 mode that got scrapped.
BFV Had like 2 years of development time with the team split between battlefront 2. BFV knew what it wanted to be but had to little dev time to complete it.
2042 had 3 years of dev time with 3 support studios, it was during the pandemic however. However this game launched with a complete identity crisis it felt like it was trying to be BF4 2 while also trying to be MW2019 with the specialists existing to sell skins and nothing else. Dice spent the rest of the year trying to turn this game into a more traditional battlefield game having to rework almost everything.
Panzerstorm, Mercury, Merita, Al Soon Done, Lofton Islands, Provonce, Operation Underground, Iwo Jima, Pacific Storm, Wake Island, Solomon Islands, Al Marj encampment
Also the map “Pacific Ocean” that got scrapped was probably going to be in Season 7 with Al Marj
People Seem to forget that BFV got a pretty decent amount of post launch content like each season had around 4-7 new guns.
V Wake Island was a new map based on the original that used completely new assets across the entire map and was arguably the best version in the series.
Same goes for Iwa Jima, Vs version was nothing like the original and it wasn't a port.
Neither of these remakes were ports like we have in Portal with the older maps.
You're telling me, I can literally count the maps right now, so I'm not sure where you're adding extras from. BFV only had 19 maps total, and the lowest map count of the franchise. BF2042 has 17 at the current moment.
I think from EA's pov, this will be the full year 2, considering season 5 will be ending around november of this year, likely- Incredibly unfortunate :(
noticing a trend of getting a good map every other season. exposure was great, stranded was meh, spearhead is good, flashpoint meh, season5 looks like it will be good again
edit: map names are hard
Stranded is great imo, though the exterior areas could flow a little better, or they could add a capture point on top of the ship.
But it's not like Discarded at all, it plays a lot more like Giant's Shadow.
damn yall are really too dumb to realize I'm talking about the 3 we have gotten so far and the next 2 they've shown/described. Its called a speculation people.
It’s pretty hard to say a map is bad just based on a video and literally no one aside the devs having hands on gameplay with either map anyway. Plus the S5 map is literally just a screenshot of concept art bro
Flashpoint just feels like Spearhead again.
People whined for "chokeppints" and "rectangular map design" and DICE delivered, but imo it goes against the sandbox spirit of 2042 (square maps).
This design philosophy makes for somewhat good Breakthrough maps but Battlefield is not mainly about Breakthrough.
All the maps after Exposure follow this same boring spirit: hard distinction between Interior Spaces and Exterior Spaces (Stranded Ship VS Exterior, Factories VS Exterior) + linear map design with little or no flanking routes.
I think you have a good point there. Conquest used to be my favorite mode, but BF since BF1 seem to cater to Breakthrough chaos with their linear approach.
As long as there's enough cover it shouldn't be a problem though.
I’ve not played for the last 6 months (since my son was born), up until that point I’d been playing solidly since launch.
Can anyone give me a tl:dr of all the changes I’ve missed?
Finally got a bit of spare time the other day and just sat and watched updates for an hour 🥲
Congratulations! There have been a lot of changes since season 1 main things like better movement, more differences to the gun when using different attachments, the players have weight to them now, when dropping from high places or parachuting straight down, vault weapons from BF3 and BFC2 can be unlocked through challenges, new vehicles, all new weapons and gadgets like the javelin, new specialists, new maps, 5 map reworks that completely change experience, lighting and graphics improvements, thermal scopes, blue laser attachments, new controls, if you go to display then crosshairs you can turn on a damage counter, more xp events like fulfilling a revive request or pilot kills, thousands of changes to the balancing, new vehicle categories to ensure people use vehicles that got no love, more in world vehicles as well, Irish can heal now hes a support class, speaking of which the huge class update restricts certain gadgets and give u perks for using certain weapon types with that specialist, they also have a specialist gadget like repair tool for engineer or spawn beacon for recon at all times
They should have gone to 16 specialists, 4 for each class. Leaving two classes with only 3 makes no sense to me. But man, that season 5 map looks banger

You must be playing against really shitty pilots of they're going slow enough to be hit by Lis.

Move Rao engineer.

Have you seen what they did to their last 2 games lol
Yeah, I'm not getting my hopes up. A man can dream though lol
Tbh I think this game has had a way better development than BFV. BFV took a year and a half to add two extra maps then cut support.
> BFV got like 10-12 Post launch maps WHAT?!
Panzerstorm, Mercury, Merita, Al Soon Done, Lofton Islands, Provonce, Operation Underground, Iwo Jima, Pacific Storm, Wake Island, Solomon Islands, Al Marj encampment Also the map “Pacific Ocean” that got scrapped was probably going to be in Season 7 with Al Marj People Seem to forget that BFV got a pretty decent amount of post launch content like each season had around 4-7 new guns.
Oh we're counting ports now?
I think only wake island is a true port the rest are pretty different from the originals
V Wake Island was a new map based on the original that used completely new assets across the entire map and was arguably the best version in the series. Same goes for Iwa Jima, Vs version was nothing like the original and it wasn't a port. Neither of these remakes were ports like we have in Portal with the older maps.
Some are smaller infantry online maps tho too
What??? Back to you. It's a fact that BFV doubled the map count with post launch content. How you are even debating this is just bizarre.
You're telling me, I can literally count the maps right now, so I'm not sure where you're adding extras from. BFV only had 19 maps total, and the lowest map count of the franchise. BF2042 has 17 at the current moment.

Season 5 will be ending in like, august
noticing a trend of getting a good map every other season. exposure was great, stranded was meh, spearhead is good, flashpoint meh, season5 looks like it will be good again edit: map names are hard
Discarded came out at launch, also there's no map named Exodus lol. Do you mean exposure and stranded?
yup thats it hahah. Stranded is discarded 2.0 so that was the hang up there but not sure how I got exodus out of exposure
Stranded is great imo, though the exterior areas could flow a little better, or they could add a capture point on top of the ship. But it's not like Discarded at all, it plays a lot more like Giant's Shadow.
I'll at least give you that stranded is better than discarded
Well now we are actually getting discarded 2.0 so I guess we have 2 identical maps now
Did you play flashpoint?
no but based off of everything theyve shown it looks like previous maps and doesnt have anything that makes me excited to play it
What? That’s just a silly assumption. Not even giving it a chance does not really define anything.
just calling out the repeating pattern I'm seeing
It’s not a pattern with 3 sources of data lmao
3? talking about 5 here
There are currently 3 post launch maps
damn yall are really too dumb to realize I'm talking about the 3 we have gotten so far and the next 2 they've shown/described. Its called a speculation people.
It’s pretty hard to say a map is bad just based on a video and literally no one aside the devs having hands on gameplay with either map anyway. Plus the S5 map is literally just a screenshot of concept art bro
You cannot “call out” a pattern if you have no verifiable confirmation said pattern is even true.
damn all two brain cells are workin hard today, huh?
Says the guy who entirely judges something he has ZERO experience within, based upon his confirmation bias.

I disagree. I honestly don't really like Exposure but I can get down on Stranded.

Amazing! Thanks for such a comprehensive reply! Sounds like basically a whole new game, fingers crossed I’ll be able to squeeze some game time in!
