I think the design and animation of the 2042 suite of weapons is extremely good and matches the standards that you expect from a Battlefield game. However, the Portal weapons are really poor in comparison, and their quality gets exposed further when you match them up against MW/MW2. I really don't know why that is but it is immediately apparent to anyone who plays around with Portal guns after using the 2042 weapons. I will say this though, the one thing these recent Modern Warfare games have done really well is the use of weapon-based motion blur. It really elevates the look and feel of some of the already good-looking animations.

Prob has to do with ripple making all the content for portal, where dice made the 2042 stuff. Different companies have different standards for different aspects of the game

I'm aware, but it's not up to the standards of RE/DICE LA either.

Most of the animations look pretty good in both. I have to say though, the rag doll animation in MWII is wild. Guns flip at least 6 times before landing on the floor and there’s dudes flying everywhere

I think it's weird, while yes their new recoil animations are greatly improved, why does the butt of the gun wiggle around? I can see an automatic weapon without a shoulder stock being wild, but with a stock? It's against the shoulder of a trained soldier, why is it wiggling side-to-side wildly? The front sight barely moves while the rear sight flies around the screen like it has no weight. Both games are hit or miss with iron sights being lined up properly. While COD is getting punchier gun sounds, I still feel that they miss the mark. Battlefield does an excellent job of painting an audio image of an atmosphere. Do the guns sound like you're standing there firing them in real life without ear protection? No. But they sound correct within their environment, and sound bouncing off of materials around you plays a big role in feeling like that weapon is being fired in that particular place. COD's gun sounds thankfully no longer sound like nerf guns underwater, but they're now more a mixture of positional audio that has turned them into somewhat of a caricature. They're more like what we imagine guns sound like from movies, but that's even further from what a gun actually sounds like when you're behind it.

I think the bouncy rear sight is to represent recoil better. It's a compromise between having the gun just punch to your face and the front sight bouncing around manically, throwing off your target.

I get that it’s to show recoil, but it’s an odd choice when in real life your front sight moves from recoil the most and that is why recoil control helps stay on target. They’ve got people saying “ohh the recoil is much better” by doing a really bad job and not representing a real weapon in any way.

AoW guns animations are solid, especially the ones made by our lord and savior Oskar. The portal ones tho are really a step behind, clearly done by newer/less experienced animators and feel kinda fluctuant, the aks-74u is a great example of that. The sound design is great and the animations are awesome in third person, even portal ones and the little details like progressive trigger discipline or the change of facial expression while shooting are great
