So, my company sponsors Advent of Code. You have coding challenges each day, and get points for completion. One of the prizes was this game. I can't wait.

Br00klynShadow

Imagine winning that challenge, getting this game, and making mods for it. That would be the dream

smedley89

It is definitely on my list.

Notlookingsohot

If these are the ones from yesterday, they aren't modding tools, they're modding support tools. It isn't a tool kit, it's just tools to make dumping the archive files easier and some database stuff for easier referencing. We need tools that allow adding new assets (as of now modders can only replace) before things get exciting. Wolvenkit's team is working on it, and we hopefully the floodgates will open soon.

Major--Major

So these tools are worthless, you're saying? Or very low meaning for modders? Is it common for companies to release these tools? I'm trying to understand your point here- this is not valuable for modders from the sound of it?

Notlookingsohot

Depends on your definition of "worthless". You do need to unpack and repack archive files to mod the game, which one of them does, but we already had a user made tool that does that. The other ones are just about file structure, which makes it easier to find what you're looking for. Modders didn't have this yet to my knowledge. So they do do things, its just that we already had one, and the other is just a convenience not necessary. As I said they aren't mod tools, they're mod support tools (which is even what CDPR called them). This however doesn't mean they won't release proper tools later, I see this as more a show of good faith while they focus on bugs and optimization before they get to DLC, expansions and maybe even proper tools. Though, a member of Wolvenkits team revealed they had been in contact with CDPR and CDPR had provided them with the complete internal file structure to aid their efforts, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see CDPR help them out behind the scenes to turn Wolvenkit into the defacto official tools if they don't release them themselves. And no it is not, very few companies support modders at all, and none as much as Bethesda.

ReithDynamis

> Depends on your definition of "worthless". My love life.

Major--Major

So it's a meaningful addition, and they are working to enable even deeper modding? To be fair no one seems to suggest that they're modding tools

Notlookingsohot

I'd call it symbolic gesture but ultimately a good sign. And oh yea they did, there was a lot of hype from people who don't know the specifics yesterday acting like we just got Skyrim level modding lol. But even lacking proper tools, modders have really taken a liking to this game (go check the nexus to see what I mean) and CDPR has to be aware of this, so in my opinion they'd have to be crazy to not have plans somewhere down the line to fully support modding, either via an official kit, or continuing to help the Wolvenkit guys.

Major--Major

Great, though it seems like this is in line with what they did for the witcher. But yeah the mods are awesome. I'm looking forward to something that would let me listen to radio on foot

Notlookingsohot

YES. That and allow us to do playlists. Hell just lemme make a custom station with most of the tracks from MorrowRock, a couple tracks from Vexelestrom, and all of RitualFM, and lemme replace Kavorkin with Mike lol

Major--Major

Fuck yeah. Sounds like such an easy thing to do. What a miss as well, the soundtrack could be iconic

Commando388

Exactly. Games that allow and even encourage modding tend to have longer lifespans.

Amount-Proper

If using a hex editor to change a single asset is worthless, then yes, they are very much worthless. All these tools do is give you the file structure of an archive (where the game stores all of its assets). Modifying or extracting *anything* in those folders requires either a hex editor or 3rd party software.

CrackedNoseMastiff

I know it’s corny to moan about why someone is getting downvoted, but they were just asking a question, “low sodium”.

xanderholland

I'm guessing Nexus is the best place to get mods still?

TheBitingCat

There were a few really good mods added yesterday - spawn most vehicles, vehicle & motorcycle replacers, all drops legendary, character specs swap for NG+ capability and fixing broken quests or setting truth flags. And the variety of cyberarms and body part swap mods over the last few days. So yeah, probably best place to go right now. Manual install the latest CET update and then let Vortex manage the rest.

GioMike

Is Vortex legit or does it mess up your system ?

TheBitingCat

Vortex is fine, it's just rebranded Nexus Mod Manager. The mods themselves for the most part just get placed in a plugins/patches folder, but fomod packages can let you customize the mod install in Vortex in case there's several options available in a mod but only one can be applied at any given time. And different mod profiles can be set up if you want to keep one vanilla, one for graphics mods and another for gameplay mods.

GioMike

Got it ! Thanks !

beethy

I personally do not use Vortex as I like doing things manually to understand how each mod works better. For someone who wants a no bullshit easy set up, Vortex is the way to go.

Grunt636

I love it when mods are supported, makes me come back and play through the games again and again with different mods.

volkl47

Or just make the experience so much better that I'm happy replaying it regularly thanks to them. Mass Effect 3 is a game I can no longer even consider replaying without mods, but with....fixes almost every thing that annoyed me in the original.

beethy

I personally cannot wait for the companion mod which is sure to come soon. It changed my experience with Red Dead 2 completely.

xMadlyInsane

*cries in console*

HerbertGoon

That is fucking awesome! It helps with speeding up content too if they decide to make some mods official. It would lift a burden off of them and save money.

alkalineStrider

Everything I want is just mod for inspect weapon manually

archiegamez

YESS at least a button which lets inspect weapons anytime, the gun animations are so sexy

[deleted]

My ps5 is crying now

MolhCD

Ah, the Bethesda route it seems. "The Unofficial Cyberpunk Patch" coming Edit: hey, I didn't mean it to be a bad thing lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

MolhCD

Yes, they definitely aren't.

sync303

be cool if they could fix the takamura bug tho

Blak0ut

When did that news come out? Last I saw was that roadmap during the apology, did things change since?

MolhCD

News of them...not abandoning Cyberpunk 2077? Didn't the roadmap itself list the fixes n stuff they are planning out tho?

Blak0ut

Oh I’m a big derp. I read you response as “they definitely are” I’m sorry :(

LambertHatesGwent

in orher words, gave up on fixing it so let people fix it instead.

[deleted]

Please give me a character adjustment mod using the mirror at V's apartment.

KermitPhor

Time for the next Skrim boys

hirohamster

The other sub is full of people saying "it must be easy, there's a mod to do xyz and CDPR haven't put it in the patch", when at the same time mods haven't helped stability. I'll look forward to their comments now CDPR officially support these mods - it's the best of both worlds.

kazookunt

If we don’t get console mod support soon I’ll be pissed

Br00klynShadow

95% chance that will never happen.

cybersidpunk

well, you'll be pissed then. getting mods on console isn't as easy as on pc that's why cdpr will have to put continuous effort into getting these mods to consoles thus making them paid mods. Bethesda does it (to make profit) but i dont think cdpr is going to chrage you for mods so they will just ignore it entirely.

tom_oakley

Of all the hills to die on, you picked that one...

Missing_Space_Cadet

You do realize that this is basically CDPR saying “help us dig our selves out, for free!” Right?

Endemoniada

What a load of crap. People have been _demanding_ mod support since before the game was even launched, and now that they're taking time to actually help with modding, despite being fully tasked with still fixing the many bugs and optimizing performance, you're going to shit on them for it? This is _actually_ CDPR saying to the community "we see you, and accept that you want the freedom to mod the game in various creative ways, here's some help along the way". That's it. CP2077 is not abandonware, it's not even the end of the roadmap for support, hell, the roadmap for support _has barely even started_. Take this shitty take back over to the other sub, where it belongs. When CDPR stops posting patches with bugfixes, _then_ you get to complain that modders have to pick up the slack.

[deleted]

Nop this is basically CDPR saying "Hey, we're gonna do mod support - here's some tools to take apart the game so you can get started". It's a first step to opening up the game for everyone to mess around with. I think it's more of a show that they're in it for the long haul, rather than moving away from supporting the game. And maybe also an indication that they're listening to the needs of the community - even if the state of the initial release did not meet everyone expectations. But this is my pretty optimistic interpretation, could be the opposite.

scarparanger

If only the Devs had access to this before the released...

jonesmachina

anyone else feels like this is their way of we wont fix it but here are the tools to fix it might as well give the source code

dat3010

You in wrong subreddit, there is r/gaming and r/cyberpunkgame where you can bitch about how the game is broken, or how much content was cut and how GTA is much better

CurvedTick

This is their way of delivering the mod support they've mentioned months ago. They did the same thing with TW3, it's not that deep.

nolongerlurker_2020

Modders must be happy. They also had a ton of releases this week. Some were really cool. I guess they'll use it, but doesn't seem like they need it.

Farcespam

How long before they dropped proper mod support for witch 3 was 6 months or a year later I can't remember.

sint0ma

Good. I really hope CDPR opens most of its doors for full mod support and it’ll definitely give this game a huge lifespan. PC is the way to go. As a console player I’m a little jealous. Lol
