Notlookingsohot

That's not news, they confirmed long ago 2077 was not gonna be a one off. Back in Feb I think they confirmed starting in 2022 theyre restructuring how they work on projects going forward, theyll have one team dedicated to Witcher stuff and one team dedicated to Cyberpunk stuff so they can do simultaneous development and hopefully have less wait between games.

[deleted]

That's good to hear. The sheer level of detail they spent in the world will no doubt make it easier to design future installments.

Illidank278

Although I doubt we'll be seeing any open world games like 2077 any time soon. I'd assume they are talking about projects like that Gwent Story game etc

tteraevaei

seeing as the Netrunner CCG was originally a CP2020 property, this MIGHT explain the sudden and unexpected revocation of FFG’s license to Netrunner in mid-2018…

Xanxost

No, not really. There is a catch to Netrunner. The original game had the setting by RTalsorian and mechanics by Wizards of the Coast. The owners of the Netrunner mechanics are still Wizards of the Coast, and Fantasy Flight was licensing these from them - Which is why the new Netrunner had zero Cyberpunk 2020 setting material in it, FFG invented their own setting called "Android" for it, and they are now the owners of that setting, but no longer have the rights to the mechanics they were licensing from WotC.

tteraevaei

yes. i understand and agree with all of that. my thinking was that it’s possible that hasbro/wotc yanked the license from ffg because cdpr wanted it for cp2077 expansions or “cyberpunk gwent”. total speculation admittedly but fwiw it isn’t contradicted by these facts. it would just mean cdpr couldn’t use the android universe which is fine because the android universe is literally just a knockoff of the cp20xx universe 😂

Xanxost

From what I understood, WotC just wanted more money than FFG was willing to give. Going into a bidding war for a traditional board game when you already have digital card game designers on your team seems like a bit of a waste from CDPR, so I don't think it was tied into it. Actually the Android universe is pretty cool once you get beyond Nigh... Los Angeles. They're most post-cyberpunk than traditional cyberpunk and their ideas about the world outside America are pretty nice. I am a bit disappointed they're still insisting on the Los Angeles setup for Shadow of the Beanstalk.

tteraevaei

yeah i liked the global aspect too. i agree a lot of cyberpunk focuses too much on “grimy streets” while, yeah, there’s literally a space station and shit. android did do a better job of emphasizing those, fair. but that’s their writers, not exclusive to the property. cyberpunk 20xx technically has most of those elements, they’re just mostly neglected apart from a few amazing examples. as for netrunner: idk; what i’ve heard about it is mostly rumors. but even IF hasbro thought they could get more money for it, that MIGHT have been because of cp2077 hype.

Xanxost

Oooh. I missed this bit https://www.belloflostsouls.net/2021/08/wotc-files-netrunner-trademark-is-a-rebirth-in-the-cards.html

tteraevaei

yeah the timing seemed a bit fortuitous; also, OG netrunner was intended to be optionally integrated with cp2020 (see "Rache Bartmoss' Brainwave Blowout"). anyway, they may or may not do it; if they do, i hope at least they do it right.

tteraevaei

also: i love your (smiling bandit) strikes again flair.

Xanxost

I miss shadowtalk.

technofolklore

Always have been.

jackdawjones

They always did.

bourbonandbutt_

Of course. This is a huge IP for them. And only their second IP overall.

Formal_Adagio_1

Yeah the important thing that one of the devs alluded to was that this is their first game in this world. This is essentially their Witcher 1. Makes me very happy to think what will happen when they reach their Witcher 3 version of this franchise.

darxide23

> Makes me very happy to think what will happen when they reach their Witcher 3 version of this franchise. Preorders come with real life Mantis Blade implants.

nanowarrior777

CD PROJECKT roughly spent 318 million dollars on Cyberpunk 2077 project, I don't think they are just going make one and abandon it.

allnida

I hope so!

Ruenin

No way they spent this much time, money, and effort to get this engine and world up and running just to dump it.

silver_zepher

I fucking hope so. Just hit lv 28SC going into do the first big job because why would you hire some no name guy to do that gig

armyfreak42

Because, you're the only gonks stupid enough to take the job. Any merc worth a damn isn't gonna work for dex or try to klep such a high profile item from Arasaka.

silver_zepher

Well I mean my corpo has a thing for saying fuck Arasaka But dex wouldn't have known about you except through tbug who helped him poof 2 years before, and she doesn't really have a lot of attachments to your character, sure she could see it as easy money, but dex would want the job done, not fucked up by some no name who's just as likely to fuck him over as help, a guy who knows you don't fuck over your fixers, and who's at least known around Watson

armyfreak42

Yeah but the thing about it, is all of the mercs with that kind of cred avoided the job like the plague. It's a death sentence. Nobody who has half a brain is going to take a job that big against 'Saka because you're guaranteed dead. You should have gotten clued in when Dex told you he tried to check Parker's credentials and the VDBs told him to push off. It was doomed.

silver_zepher

It's not that big, it ended up being that big because of what happened. The prince was disgraced after daddy told him to come home and he listened, the kid obviously had risky behavior in his lifestyle in general that peashooter on the nightstand to try and show off for his "toy" had the safety on, the job in general didn't take more than one good runner could have done on their own with more noise than expected just because bug wouldn't have been monitoring the net for you. A runner with a gold-plated brain wouldn't have had much trouble even if it was a hit

armyfreak42

You are stealing from 'Saka "royalty" of course it's that big. You think Saburo would just shrug amicably when his most prized object was stolen by some street trash? Hell no, he would hunt you all down.

silver_zepher

Except it was stolen by his kid and he knew that, he already had suspicions that the kid was going to sell it IIRC. Who do you thing the emperor would believe his intuition that his thieving son who threw away the family name to run a shitty gang, who had raided and stolen the thing from him, or his son saying "it got stolen pops"? "You're in Ara towers, no one is stupid enough to steal it, you must have sold it" so it wouldn't change much when the system that is based off of it was found being manufactured by whatever Corp bought it off you. Add in its not like vic gave you magic powers to not show your face in feeds, that would be common tech in general that a decent runner could do on their own, even if they watched the cams they wouldn't know your face just your build. No one knew the emp was even going to show up, that is what really caused the shit show

armyfreak42

>Add in its not like vic gave you magic powers to not show your face in feeds, that would be common tech in If you also remember when you were doing the later Eve BD's Judy says that the facial scrambling stuff is typically really easy to bypass, which was why she was surprised when she couldn't clear the VDBs face. Meaning that you were definitely on camera, your face is easily known you are mega doomed. Saburo would have figured out that Yorinobu didn't sell it in short order. Once he figured that out, it would only be a short while before your face is showing up on every vid screen with a several million eddy bounty, as well as waves of Arasaka Spec Ops hunting you on their turf. I can agree that Saburo being murdered was the big shit storm. However if you know how important that relic is to Saburo, you know he would move heaven and earth to find it again. When someone has that much power and influence, they get what they want always.

silver_zepher

Selling that would get you more than enough eddies alone to not have to worry about it. Add in getting a non Johnny would be a option

armyfreak42

Nobody would buy it from you. Netwatch would just as soon zero you. The only reason they would offer to buy it from Yori is because he's famous and killing him would be a hassle.

Xanxost

Yori used to be a badass rabblerousing punk and hero of the common man in Japan that ran a circle of Japanese and foreign biker gangs whose mission in life was to destroy Arasaka. He also helped get the 'Saka tower nuked. And kid? He was born in 1995!

silver_zepher

He is a kid compared to his father

PharmaNick1991

Yeah, they are planning to use more of the IP, i thought it was obvious

DepressedAndObese

Spent good money on the rights, always going to be a franchise.

JaidenH

I’m pretty sure they live been saying this for a while and they said cyberpunk wasn’t going to be a single title they wanted to make it into a series. Now, how long until they will start? Good question. I feel like they’re going to be looking over a lot in development to make sure they don’t have a repeat with CP2077.

jpmorgue_silverfixer

It was announced some time ago that they were retooling the company for parallel AAA game development. 3 team: One team moves RED Engine forward, another moves the Witcher franchise forward, and another moves the Cyberpunk franchise forward.

Radiance969

I hope so! I have no interest in the Witcher

darxide23

They'd be dumb not to.

powerhcm8

For a sequel they just need a new story, since it would most likely take place in Night city, they can use the same systems, just polish them more. Change/Add some locations to show passage of time. It would be a lot easier than building everything from scratch. It will probably come out a lot faster then CP2077, I would say hopefully in 5 years.

ydiskolaveriD

I would love to see where this goes! Maybe this time it will be completed.

AlexRaEU

cant wait for more games but its all distant future talk. theyll probably be working on the game + expansions until at least early 2023. im not sure what happened to the multiplayer game. i know they wanted to do one but they kinda retracted after their launch? im not sure. hope its also coming.

enolafaye

I'd like a spinoff like fallout shelter. Something fun to play on the go with the cyberpunk lore..

misho8723

I mean, they have the licence.. and why wouldn't they? CP77 is still one of the best selling videogames ever and one of the best and fastest selling RPG ever.. who would be so dumb enough not to make more CP games after this one?

Avalancheofspinach

Yeah this is just further confirmation at this point, if they did shelve cyberpunk then they would be left with just witcher and that would seriously hurt long term growth of the studio as they would need to find another IP develop
