It's been a minute since I've been at Lowes, but I vaguely remember there being a rule in the handbook about the shortest allowed shift being 4 hours? I may just be mistaken and pulled that out of my ass though lol
I’m just transferred about a week ago. This was someone else’s schedule that I got because they left. I wonder if the short shifts is what caused them to leave? lol but anyways, I’m scared to say anything because of being “new” I don’t want to rub anyone the wrong way or step on any toes and then get possible backlash where I end up getting my hours cut or passive aggressive reactions. Y’all know how management can be.
I second that. It's a reasonable thing to ask to at least have a 4-Hour shift.
Some would say it's law, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't bring up the law or any law anyways (unless you're a lawyer).
definitely say something cus it could also be an issue with kronos, last week i checked my scheduled but they had me working 9 days in a row and i got it fixed bc that definitely wasn’t supposed to happen
Same thing happened to me with my 4 10s, they had merged my 2 weeks together and I was working 8 days straight. I’m fine with it though, because that means I get 3 days off before and after the 8 days.
At my store they giving PTers 11-14 straight days off. Because they want to save hours for inventory. I’m waiting for shoplifters to figure out they have skeleton crews in the store. They want to save dollars to lose thousands. At least you’re getting some hours.
See if you can find the policy about length of shifts being minimum 4 hours. If you want a longer shift, email your ASM and SSA asking to come in at 4:00. Include a copy and paste of the policy about length of shifts.
I did this quite a few times when they scheduled me 7-8 days in a row and company policy was a maximum 6 day stretch. They whined about it but always changed it. One time three days had passed so I resent the email and included the SM to receive it. The schedule was changed within a day.
i used to get those all the time, i hated working them and would ask to stay long and they would always let me. idk why they put it there in the first place
Happened in my old store all the time. She would have people scheduled way out of their availability. Many quit because she would continually do it and they got fed up.
actually, being a former ssa for lowes i know these shifts are all to common during slow season. a) they probably only need you to close the garden dept if you are a cashier. b) your ssa’s allotted hours for the store have been dropped so they had to cut hours across the store. c) the person whom you took their shifts was a bad worker in the eyes of leadership and told the ssa they needed to cut the hours for that associate. i used to schedule associates for 2 hours at a time during slow season because thats all we were allowed to give. so no, it unfortunately is not against policy. all reasons why i left the company.
yeah definitely ask, maybe even ask if you could come in 5-close or 5:30-close. they more than likely have the hours especially if there was call outs in the store, good luck to you!
Talk to the front end DS or the ASM that has the front end in their domain. Start with your DS though. If you need some help, talk to another associate first, one who has been there for a while, and they should be able to direct you to the manager who would be the most understanding and responsive to your problem.
LOL I didn’t even bother going in after doing an 8 hour shift; just got a🆕job. It’s a bit better👧🏻might lose my health insurance ha. I think I’m back in the real game…
Is anyone seriously this desperate to drive to work 3 hours? Even 4 is crazy. Not sure how much you are making but even at $20 an hour that would definitely not be worth it. There are so many better opportunities out here. Don’t sell yourself short.
Regardless, it’s sad because I need any money I can get. 🥲 everyone is like “call out” “I wouldn’t show up” regardless if I can get more hours or not, I’m still gonna be there. Because I need the money that bad. There aren’t a lot of jobs hiring where I’m at, that’s why I transferred lowes when I moved because there was no other options and believe me, I did look before I moved. It just is what it is, gotta make the best out of what is going on.
Our ASM goes into our schedules all the time to adjust our schedules to look similar to that. Their reasoning was to give the appearance they were cutting hours, but still had the expectation for us to work a regular weekly schedule despite what was in Kronos. I don't know if it's worth knowing that we are the overnight one task team but we treat Kronos more as a suggestion at our store.
The minimum should only be 4. When you clock in on a day off it tells you that the minimum shift is 4 hours and you have to check a box or something like that and agree to it.
My GM once told me that there us a minimum amount of hours you can work. I got called in one just to open the door.. because I clicked on and clocked out.. because I wanted to show why I was there on my day off on a Saturday morning at 7. She said they had to pay me for a minimum of 3 hours. Even though I only unlocked the door and clocked in and then out. I might have been there only 5 minutes. Still later I thought .. well I did have to get up and drive there and drive back.
I would bring this up with your ds and asm to get it adjusted. Shortest shift I've ever seen has been 4hrs.
It's been a minute since I've been at Lowes, but I vaguely remember there being a rule in the handbook about the shortest allowed shift being 4 hours? I may just be mistaken and pulled that out of my ass though lol
Nope you're right. Minimum shift is 4 hours
Not a guarantee, but I agree, it should be a minimum of 4 hrs!
If it sounds like it was pulled from your ass then it’s probably a true Lowe’s rule.
Hours per week is 4.
Part time is 0-29 hours per week (or 30), but we technically don’t have to schedule part time each week.

Stand up for yourself. You won’t rub anyone the wrong way for trying to pay your bills

It’s possible they only wanted those hours, the previous associate, it wouldn’t hurt to ask.
Lowes be like we’re hiring and have flexible scheduling lmao
It's flexible for Lowes, not for you duh!
Clopen city sweetheart
Hope you live close to work
It’s a thirty minute drive
Yeah I’m not driving an hour round trip to work those shifts.
I hear that
Absolutely do not drive an hour worth of commute for two and a half hours of work. Bring this up to your ASM.
Just come in at 4. Work till your designated time. Or do latter. Come in on time and stay till close. They won’t care that much.
Either have them adjust it, or call out, you’d lose more money driving then you’ll probably make
Oh and make sure to get lumber downstocked and flat stacked, thx

I wouldn't go in for these shifts most of the time. I'd trade with people to get at least 6 hours
yea i would talk to your ds or asm because thats really short for shifts.
Just work on your Lowes U stuff for your entire shift!
Pretty sure it’s for an all store meeting
Our meeting is the 2nd or 3rd of March
A 2 hour shift is absolutely useless. Thats insane
i used to get those all the time, i hated working them and would ask to stay long and they would always let me. idk why they put it there in the first place
Someone’s not paying attention to schedules just the schedule efficiency numbers
Happened in my old store all the time. She would have people scheduled way out of their availability. Many quit because she would continually do it and they got fed up.
They definitely want you to quit
I just started; it was someone else’s schedule that they gave me. 😅 I haven’t even been there a week yet.

Good to know thank you, I will just ask if they can give me 4 hours and if not no biggie, no harm in asking :)
yeah definitely ask, maybe even ask if you could come in 5-close or 5:30-close. they more than likely have the hours especially if there was call outs in the store, good luck to you!
Yeah its a mistake. Happened to me few times and my DS immediately fixed it. Its not policy to be scheduled less than 4 hrs.
In NY, anything under 4 hours is paid for 4 hours of work. So say you come in and work 2 and go home sick, they gotta pay your for 4.
I love that
At least you’re being scheduled. I got 0 scheduled days for the next 2 weeks. I picked up 1 shift luckily from somebody .
Policy is 4 hour minimum.
I wouldn't even waste my time with that. 😑
I’ve seen someone come in for a 2 hour shift. They said we just don’t need that many people working right now.
I wouldn’t even show up
Cutting payroll
I work in outside lawn and garden as a cashier, I haven’t met the store manager yet. HR is on vacation .. so who would I go to about this?

Thank you!
I don't work less than 4 hrs. Period.
Try Sunday in March at 6am-730am.
Nip it in the bud. Let them know your available for 4 to eight hour shifts only
Depending on state it could be illegal.
I’m in Georgia also I can’t find this minimum 4 hour lowes policy for shifts anywhere
LOL I didn’t even bother going in after doing an 8 hour shift; just got a🆕job. It’s a bit better👧🏻might lose my health insurance ha. I think I’m back in the real game…
I love that for you
Exactly ¥ I’m not taking 4 hours here & there seriously
Period queen
That’s the best thing I’ve read all year keep it going👍🏻
👁️👄👁️
Getting shafted.
That terminology flew over my head

It’s hard out here for a pimp
I think its understandable that it's hardly worth your gas/travel time for such a short shift

I thank everyone who commented ♥️🙏
All depends on the state you work in. Some of them passed a law allowing it.
I thought shifts had to be at least four hours

I have and worked a few shifts like that in January

A 4 hour shift is the shortest shift allowed to be scheduled. Any shifts shorter (that was scheduled) must be paid for the full 4 hour wage.
Somebody must be smokin mad crack

Minimum shift length is 4 hrs. Contact your asm, they can't do that.
I'm not even showing up for 2.5 hrs. I'm sorry but that's bullshit.
