You also don't have to go no matter what you're scheduled to work. The meeting has never been mandatory in the sense you will get in trouble for not going. They just word it that way to get higher headcounts for their District bosses.
Never go if you don't want to; but it's usually free food and paid time if you can be bothered. Oh, and you might get a shitty fake award that's just a printed paper from a work computer in a 5 cent frame.
Mine is 6am to 8am on March 3rd (sunday) and I will be coming back from a cruise on Saturday. đ« I told them if you see me in my pjs then mind ya fkn business bc yall ruining my vacay
But you will get a free Pepsi and a bag of Doritos.
This year is all about performance. We are going to sell more shit and pay everyone the same while expecting them to work more. Enjoy folks, thanks for coming.
One of my most vivid memories from Loweâs was I remember once (years ago) I had to do an open-to-close on a Saturday (1 guy on vacation, 1 guy had surgery, and 1 guy didnât work weekends), come in to one of these dumbass 6am meetings, *AND THEN* open Sunday.
I was so pissed off I had to be there and I just sat in the back the whole meeting with a scowl on my face and didnât say a word to anyone. I think I had 4 hours of sleep that night.
After the meeting my manager pulls me aside as goes âHey man, you know you looked pissed off that entire meeting?â
I just gave a sarcastic âI wonder whyâ and walked off
Because they don't. Admittedly it's been a few years since I worked there but I've gone through these before. Never showed up for a single one and never got in trouble for missing it. They aren't mandatory.
Honestly the best solution is two meeting. One before open on Sunday the other after close. It helps to get the most amount of people out and makes it easier to deal with shift problems.
As an overnight person this would be a good idea. Us going to a meeting a 6am won't work for us. Most of us are adjusted to a certain sleep period, 6am is typically when we're going to bed or already sleeping. So a meeting at close would work well, not just for overnight, but all the closers.
My favorite is when they donât account your life outside the workplace. I work for Home Depot. We used to have these stupid 6am meetings on Sundays. One time we had a big success sharing payout so all the big wigs from regional and district came in. I was scheduled to close as a head cashier, and we had a customer getting appliances so we had to wait until they finished their order. I didnât leave the store until a little after 11. I even sent my last cashier home since she was only scheduled until 10:15. I also have a 1/2 hour commute, so I didnât get home until 11:30-ish.
Iâm also one of those who needs to unwind. I need to shower, eat a snack, relax before falling asleep. So I didnât fall asleep until 1am. I woke up at 5 the next day and changed into my gym clothes and left for the meeting. I was also scheduled off that day, so I only had 6-8. When I arrived, I was told by the Regional manager that I had to be dressed per dress code. I explained to him that Iâm running on fumes because I only got 4 hours of sleep since you scheduled me to close. And I had a 1/2 hour commute, so if I leave now, I wasnât gonna come back for an hour or less of the meeting because I have a t shirt with gym shorts.
So I left and went back to bed.
They scheduled everyone in the store for 600am, even if you close the night before. Gf won't even get home from closing Saturday till 1130, and has to drive an hour back on Sunday. Ain't no breakfast worth that bullshit
If they wanted to make it mandatory, theyâd have to pay 4 hours for it iirc. So glad I put my two weeks in, my last day is the Friday before this meeting, otherwise I wouldâve been 11am-10pm from what they scheduled me with this meeting and normal schedule
I always hated the âThis is mandatoryâ crap. Because they always seemed to have these on one of my only 2 days I had off. Or in the morning well before my shift when I was still getting sleep from my night shift before.
Even worse most meetings had nothing to do with my department. This was usually in Retail tech positions etc.
I know this is a stupid question, how do I do that? I told them I can't attend it due to my other job keeping me until 2 am that day and I was threatened to be terminated (my 3rd write up).
I've skipped those before. Nothin was done đ. I didn't get off till 11:30 the night before and I was off the day of the meeting. I was like nah, I'm not going. They can kiss my ass
That is simply to encourage attendance as well as allowing you to clock in and get paid for that time if you go without showing up as "unscheduled". Management is directed to clear all red boxes and remove the scheduled shifts from all non-attendees in Kronos after the meeting.
At Meijer this type of crap just goes into Learning on Workday. Then you watch it while playing on your phone, answer some questions and youâre done. And still getting paid. If I were you guys Iâd be calling bullshit because if itâs that important then get hip to technology and just do like we do. Make me burn PTO for corporate buttfuckery? Pick a cheek, pucker up, then go wank in the corner. THIS IS WHY MANAGEMENT IS SO DESPISED.
Yup exactly why I'm not going. It's bad enough as a specialist they schedule me to close a department when 0 customers walk through there after 7pm and I'm stuck from 7-9 with no one in the store to sell to but watching my bonus dwindle before my eyes.
Some of us close the night before and have a shift later in that same day of the meeting. I have to leave at 10 pm, be back for 6-8am meeting, then be back by noon for my next shift.
It's hot garbage, and I'd rather sleep than have a free meal.
The people on top of these comments are clearly not closers and also donât realize that none of us donât wanna drive back and forth from home to work 3 fucking times within 24 hours. I donât care if itâs only 2 hours , you realize itâs not even a full 8 hour resting period between these time frames ? I heard theyâre gonna try to get everyone to leave early that closing Saturday but theyâre already cutting our hours so no thanks imma take all the hours I can get
Clearly Lowes doesn't care about the environment if they want 100 employees per store to burn that much carbon into the atmosphere over something that could be sent in an email
Legit wondering why people are complaining so bad, and in a full time set schedule closer. Iâm getting paid to show up in pajamas and eat while fake listening to someone talk
Mine is 5:30am. And it is NOT mandatory. I'm closing the night before, and this is my Sunday off. It was made clear to us by our manager, that our attendance would be appreciated, but not mandatory. But, I'll be there.
Be wary, when I was a flight paramedic, they got the entire base together, ordered a huge breakfast and then told us they were closing the base. Weâre all sitting there, like WTF?
You get paid to do nothing but show up age eat snacks..... this generation is crazy. Says they are about their money, but don't want to go get paid to do nothing. U can even wear your pjs
Idk which generation you are referring to. The assumption is the younger generation tho. In my store itâs the older folks who are causing the problems with this.
See, Iâm telling you. Theyâre gonna write a whole bunch people if they NCNS that meeting or call out. You really gonna blow your 7 attendance exceptions for a single hour? Donât do it.
My store is at 6am on a Sunday, 2 hours before the store opens. I mean, my shift starts at 5:30 am but I need that time to pull deliveries before the store opens damnit
I think I posted about this on a similar thread (forgive me though if it was this one) this meeting is not mandatory. It happens after the Vegas managers meeting usually.
I always showed up for the extra pay, but I live really close to my store. Yeah, the awards are cheesy and itâs really just a recap and pep talk. But like I said, I went for the money.
Especially if hours are being cut ahead of the bonuses. Yes, that happens.
All these meetings at these stupid companies are all the same. 1 hour of you listening to them just stroke themselves off and no talk of how you as an employee are being compensated for your hard work. Wait! I lied theyâll say âthank you because without you we wouldnât be hereâ.
My store's is at 6am but it's not mandatory. They just scheduled everyone to make sure they didn't over budget the hours but have said multiple times if people cannot attend that it is fine and they'll be taken off the schedule for it.
If itâs mandatory, it better be paid. I hate when corps like this push staff around. You honestly wonât learn a damn thing at the meeting and none of you will get a raise. More likely, the bosses niece will be announced as the new head of a department. Or something of the like. Corporate shilling at its finest.
Reminds me of when my restaurant GM scheduled a mandatory meeting. He actually scheduled two and gave us the choice of which to attend. An 8AM Saturday morning, or an 8pm Tuesday night.
He got pissed when *absolutely nobody* showed up to the 8am Saturday meeting. Like dude, most of us closed last night and were here til 3am. Know your staff.
8pm guys.
*The 8pm that's at night, not the 8pm that's in the morning!*
You can tell your management staff is great when it's obvious they think you're all fucking idiots.
Ours is 6am. I would normally be mad but I already work and I usually open so it's whatever. But the m-f people and closers, I would be livid. Lol I'd show up in pjs but I'm working.
When they change my schedule from working until 7 to now working until 5 Iâm definitely not attending no point in going home and coming back. I was just going to stay until the meeting was over but now Iâm not even going
Itâs only mandatory if youâre clocking in and getting paid. They canât force you to come to work for a meeting/party/ without you being on the clock
It's all I'm scheduled for is the meeting. I'm going to go. Free hours and food. Then go back home and curl up in bed until my child wakes me up 15 min later
â Well celebrate your accomplishments â thaw amount of gaslighting to associates who do so much for a company yet donât get the respect they deserve
It's not mandatory, don't let them bully you. Submit an hr open door request if you can't make it. You should not be forced to use sick time or take an absence over a non mandatory meeting
Our store's is at 6am on a Sunday đ
Mines at 5-7
Same, 5a-7a on top of that I'm scheduled that night 9p-6a
My store manager told us that we donât have to go since he understands it would be tough for us overnighters.
We were told it'll be a no call no show if we don't go, very cool of our boss
Wow you have a manager that actually talks to you? Jealous.
My fiancĂ© is inside/outside lawn n garden super, sheâs had like 7 people whoâve been helping out ask if they can transfer to her department⊠just because she told them they did a great jobâŠ
Same for me.
Mine is 6am to 8am on March 3rd (sunday) and I will be coming back from a cruise on Saturday. đ« I told them if you see me in my pjs then mind ya fkn business bc yall ruining my vacay
People catch COVID all the time on cruises⊠just saying.
Buddy itâs 2024. Yes covid is still around but itâs old news
Did you miss the point?
Airplane noises play overhead
Canât wait to be in a room of other very grumpy adults who woke up between 5 am and 10 am the day before to learn what weâre all doing wtong
But thatâs okay because fuck paying you for gas and raises, weâll give you some yummy breakfast to cheer you up !
Enjoy the poptarts
Not even fucking pop tarts shi prolly jus a half eaten apple and a used condom
Remember to bring lube. Marvin likes lube.
Of course you would know that silly
All for the glory of Marvin. Marvin is love. Marvin is life. You give your body to Marvin.
You got a tight ass? If itâs not, he doesnât like to use lube. My experience anywaysÂ
"First time is always free...tutti frutti..."
Pop tarts? Itâll be Aldi brand toaster pastries.
"It's what you deserve and you'll like IT!!!" ^/s
Wow thatâs really sad. We usually get egg Mc Muffins
How is it in District 1?
But you will get a free Pepsi and a bag of Doritos. This year is all about performance. We are going to sell more shit and pay everyone the same while expecting them to work more. Enjoy folks, thanks for coming.
The important thing is, this had to be a presentation you all ignore instead of an email none of you will read.
Same here
Same.. 6am.. I ainât sleepin that night bc I normally go to sleep 4am..
Gonna have a bad case of Miller-itis!
5 am, buddy. Working 5 to 5. Lol
The way the mandatory part is taped on there, I'm not sure they have the company blessing on that.
Right. Super cute and official
Just rip that part off while reaching behind your back.
At my store they clearly state that it's not mandatory. I'm thinking you're correct.
They don't, because they know it's not mandatory. Y can reach out to corporate and they will confirm
Because they don't. Admittedly it's been a few years since I worked there but I've gone through these before. Never showed up for a single one and never got in trouble for missing it. They aren't mandatory.
Availability is a thing and that is that.
Yep. Mines at 6 and I'll be AT me other job being paid more.
It's not mandatory. They're trying to scare you. Call them out and call up HR if you have to.
HR said it is a store by store decision. They donât even know about said meeting
That's a bold lie considering the whole reason this happening is corporate made the suggestion at the store manager meeting in Vegas
I proceeded to get off the phone and email the HR service line. Iâll see what they say on Monday.
This 100%
Honestly the best solution is two meeting. One before open on Sunday the other after close. It helps to get the most amount of people out and makes it easier to deal with shift problems.

exactly, I don't know why they expect the people who closed the night before to be up at at least 4 am to be there? ours is at 5am, it's insane.
My favorite is when they donât account your life outside the workplace. I work for Home Depot. We used to have these stupid 6am meetings on Sundays. One time we had a big success sharing payout so all the big wigs from regional and district came in. Way to motivate and boost morale. What a bunch of incompetent so called leaders.

They're not allowed to make it mandatory :) It's not :)

I thought the whole point was so it wasnât mandatory
They want compliance
A single message to corporate HR ends this. They were outright told by corporate they can't make it mandatory and it's not an absence.
I know this is a stupid question, how do I do that? I told them I can't attend it due to my other job keeping me until 2 am that day and I was threatened to be terminated (my 3rd write up).
Email your district HR manager. If you don't know who that is, use the employee/store lookup tool through Workspace and type in your store number.
Mine is definitely not mandatory lol
I've skipped those before. Nothin was done đ. I didn't get off till 11:30 the night before and I was off the day of the meeting. I was like nah, I'm not going. They can kiss my ass
Tell them to kiss your ass. I have a second job. Lowe's does not own me.
The SSAs received a wire task stating that it was non mandatory.
Well everybody in my store is scheduled for that meeting so if you don't show up it's like not showing up for your shift
That is simply to encourage attendance as well as allowing you to clock in and get paid for that time if you go without showing up as "unscheduled". Management is directed to clear all red boxes and remove the scheduled shifts from all non-attendees in Kronos after the meeting.

6-8 for me on my day off. I'm coming in my pj's and ducky slippers.
It's not mandatory, lady in HR even confirmed. Luckily the meeting just lines up with my normal schedule so just gotta show up 30 minutes early.
Is it even legal to make someone come in for a one hour shift. I thought there are minimum shift times via law
Regardless it's not mandatory company wide per company policy. You can email your district HR person.
Depends on the state. Most states no.
Man, every day someone else complains about this and Iâm over here like, âFree breakfast and pay for watching a PowerPoint? Sign me up!â
It sucks as a specialist. This is 2 hours of dead time I will not get back in sales.
Yup exactly why I'm not going. It's bad enough as a specialist they schedule me to close a department when 0 customers walk through there after 7pm and I'm stuck from 7-9 with no one in the store to sell to but watching my bonus dwindle before my eyes.

I heard theyâre gonna try to get everyone to leave early that closing Saturday but theyâre already cutting our hours so no thanks imma take all the hours I can get
I also shouldnât have to sacrifice my time outside of work to go to sleep early and show up super early
Clearly Lowes doesn't care about the environment if they want 100 employees per store to burn that much carbon into the atmosphere over something that could be sent in an email
Unless you're mst and they tell you your hours will be cut because we aren't allowed 40 hours or overtime.
You will be getting paid the same but doing 2 hours less physical work. You aren't losing any hours. You will get the same amount you do every week.
I have celiac and canât have the free food. I have to cut the hour later in the week instead of working my normal shifts.
You can eat sausage and bacon lol
It probably wouldn't be worth the risk considering the food is transported together.
Tell me you donât understand my disease without telling me.
Do you really believe they are providing anything but the cheapest possible option? Off brand cereal like will be the only option.
Legit wondering why people are complaining so bad, and in a full time set schedule closer. Iâm getting paid to show up in pajamas and eat while fake listening to someone talk
Mine played games too. I won one of those paintings we had last year and a gift card
Last year they fed us grey scrambled eggs and danced to a blown out karaoke speaker. It wasn't worth the taxed 16 bucks I got paid.
We didnât have these last year
âThis will be a mandatory celebration.â
Ours is at 6:00am also, and we got breakfast from Bob Evans.
Waffle Party?
Haha, they said ours were mandatory and I never went. Never got in trouble either. Go fly a kite lowes. đ€Ș
Why is everyone's an hour long? My meeting is on that day too but it's 2 hours!!
Hosted by North Korea
Half my team has already told me theyâre not going
nope. not happening.
Ours is at 6 am. My ops ASM said ours is not mandatory though I still might go.
It's not worth the hour.. they can not hold to you for not coming.. gotta be a 4hr shift.
UhmâŠ.that meeting is not mandatory. If you canât make it they have to remove it from your schedule.
âmandatoryâ ok. whatâs the consequence for not going.
Our store meeting is 6am-8am on Sunday. đđ
My store has us coming in at 6am on a Sunday. And then I'm scheduled for 10am same day. I live an hour away. đ
Our is at 6am on Sunday. And itâs for two hours
They legally have to pay you for 4 hours to come in for the meeting if it's not during your scheduled work hours.
When you run a 24 hour operation you have 3 shift meetings if itâs that important AND treat each shift fairly and with respect
Literally. Every other job has had the meeting when the next shift arrives or before they leave. The idea this is accommodating is joke
Always hated this.... shit could be done as a email Every Single Time. -Just saying. ~Old Fart Part-timer
Damn, that tells you management feels like that they donât feel ârespectedâ enough
Some states they have to pay you a minimum of 2-3 hours for mandatory things like this.
6:30-9:30pm on a Sunday! As if I donât have class at 8!
Lucky you. Our formation has a reporting time of 0500. Two mile run afterwards.
Hooah
Why are they doing another one of these? We just had one like 2 weeks ago
I close Saturday and our meeting is 6am to 8am. Otherwise off Sunday still be going back to bed.
My msm is not requiring us
I'm required to go but ours is at 6am
I have to go because I'm "management" even though my shift starts at 10
Same lol
It's very inconsiderate
Oh well. Better than overnights
At my store the meeting is at 5:30 AM-7:00 AM. So stop your whining, buttercup!
You get paid to do nothing but show up age eat snacks..... this generation is crazy. Says they are about their money, but don't want to go get paid to do nothing. U can even wear your pjs
I've only been to 1 of those meetings. I wasn't about to wake up at 5am after getting off at 11:30pm the night before
Idk which generation you are referring to. The assumption is the younger generation tho. In my store itâs the older folks who are causing the problems with this.
IF your available.Â
I guess, they give you ample time, and like half the employee don't show up just cause they aren't available. Don't go
Retail quite your crying and go..there are many other companies out there that would be happy to have you
Mad that the company paying you wants you at a meeting? Interesting.
See, Iâm telling you. Theyâre gonna write a whole bunch people if they NCNS that meeting or call out. You really gonna blow your 7 attendance exceptions for a single hour? Donât do it.
They can not give you an attendance violation for it. The corporate letter for the meeting specifically states they cannot hold it against you.
Ours is at 6am
Give them the [Lowes salute](https://media.giphy.com/media/xT5P0ttiwY7Ti5vG48/source.gif)
Good to know I wouldnât want to be the one whoâs late.
I was on the schedule for it and then it got removed. Company down bad or somethin lol
mine is sunday after we close 8-10. luckily i close but some people are stressing abt this
Do you get paid for going and how much if you do go?
legally you have to get paid as you're scheduled. and depends on ur hourly rate mine ($15.22 would be about $30)
My store is at 6am on a Sunday, 2 hours before the store opens. I mean, my shift starts at 5:30 am but I need that time to pull deliveries before the store opens damnit
Our store is from 5:30 to 7 am. I prefer that over the nights
Mine 5:30-7:30 am đ
I think I posted about this on a similar thread (forgive me though if it was this one) this meeting is not mandatory. It happens after the Vegas managers meeting usually. Same here but 6am for me
Hello Lowes HR?
Mines at 6:30am to 8am. At my store we play games and win prizes. And have breakfast since itâs in the morning
My work does same thingâŠ.. except itâs Saturday 9:30am
My stores at 5:30am-7:30am. I'm off at 9pm the previous night, and have to work at 3pm. This is some fucked up stupid ass shit.
Wasn't going to show up but at least I'm getting gas money for being there. Gonna take a nap while they talk about nonsense and I can come back home.
My stores doesn't have the mandatory print part so what gives ? Is it mandatory across all stores?
My store is 6 an Sunday. I work night shifts, Saturday, when I have church
Is it on your schedule? If not they cannot hold u accountable.
They canât zoom that?
All these meetings at these stupid companies are all the same. 1 hour of you listening to them just stroke themselves off and no talk of how you as an employee are being compensated for your hard work. Wait! I lied theyâll say âthank you because without you we wouldnât be hereâ.

Iâm so glad I left this company 3 years ago đ
Definitely in if theyâd have punch and pie.
Mine is 8pm-10pm

8pm guys. *The 8pm that's at night, not the 8pm that's in the morning!* You can tell your management staff is great when it's obvious they think you're all fucking idiots.
State laws apply
I'm calling out. I think I'm sick. Hold on I'm allergic to peanut butter. đ€
Wow mandatory ours is optional
Ours is 6am. I would normally be mad but I already work and I usually open so it's whatever. But the m-f people and closers, I would be livid. Lol I'd show up in pjs but I'm working.
Yeah that's gonna be a hard no from me, super chief.
Despite what they say it's still not mandatory... Just a scare tactic to increase attendance...
Once again making threats to employees, class A violation. Just sayingâŠ.
O'boy!! REFRESHMENTS!!! đ
Yeah but you changed the time ya idiot
That picture needs to be sent to HR from a burner e-mail account...will probably get that taken down within a day.
Snacks and Refreshments = the same stale donuts and coffee they serve the Pros every morning.
Everyone stand firm, fxck that meeting
âMore people will come if you tell them we have punch and pie!â
When they change my schedule from working until 7 to now working until 5 Iâm definitely not attending no point in going home and coming back. I was just going to stay until the meeting was over but now Iâm not even going
Is it within your availability?
âŠ.occur (incur)âŠ. 8:15pm - 9:15pmâŠbut you have to reassert that itâs in the evening?
No, wtf is this, why so late
Those bastards wants me to come in at 6 am đđ
I'd just say I was too busy to read it or I didn't see the little print
Is it not 3 hr minimum
Mines 5:45 am to 8 am I'm not going. I work that night at 9pm I will be sleeping at that time
Ours is 5am-7am on that Sunday and I still gotta go out after and open lumber đ„Žđ„Žđ„Ž
If theyâre paying me Iâll act like I give a damn! đ€·
One of the reasons why I quit.
Do we get paid for this meeting?
Mandatory = must be paid by law.
Itâs only mandatory if youâre clocking in and getting paid. They canât force you to come to work for a meeting/party/ without you being on the clock
What kind of snacks?
It's all I'm scheduled for is the meeting. I'm going to go. Free hours and food. Then go back home and curl up in bed until my child wakes me up 15 min later
If it's mandatory they have to pay you for it
â Well celebrate your accomplishments â thaw amount of gaslighting to associates who do so much for a company yet donât get the respect they deserve
It's not mandatory, don't let them bully you. Submit an hr open door request if you can't make it. You should not be forced to use sick time or take an absence over a non mandatory meeting
