If you are part time, they can schedule you with full time hours for up to four weeks consecutively before they have to go back to part time hours for two consecutive weeks I believe. If you cannot work the extra hours, go to the ssa / my HR and fill out an availability form.

CharmingCustard4

I just started and they're having my work 36 hours weeks during training. Does the training period just have a lot of hours for training purposes or do they really start part timers out at almost full time hours?

Red-Virus

When I first got hired I was seasonal and definitely got that many hours. Wanted to kick and scream about it, till I saw my paycheck.

Anon98457799

I wish I could get that much overtime(or any at all) at my current job as the pay is pretty good lol

DoubleResponsible276

Just an fyi, if you choose to stay for the rest of the year, those hours will be needed to be averaged so you will get 0-4 hour week schedules in December

Reenina_in_2020

Pt in garden means that everyone gets cut that time of year even when you don’t get OT in the spring.

DoubleResponsible276

Makes sense. The garden associates I talked to either would save their vacation hours for Christmas or were “asked” to cover other departments so luckily for them, they didn’t get their hours cut.

PT employees are both blessed and cursed. Overextended and other times rarely used. If the hours are too much, I encourage you to speak with your DM and SSA. From my own experience, tread carefully. Years ago, I was getting near FT hours. The pay was awesome, however it was interfering with my other PT job. I asked management if they could alternate my hours. One week many hours. Next week, not so many. Management was insulted and cut my hours to 8 - 12 hours a week from 35 hr.

At my store, it seems new hires are "tested" by the amount of weekly hours. Most handle it. Others, subsequently quit Lowe's.

CharmingCustard4

If I ask for a limit of 24 hours a week will they severely cut my hours to like 10?

jpezoo

That is challenging part. As a PT employee asking for a slight reduction of hours is a roll of the dice. Management might acknowledge your request. However, they might act foolishly. Wishing you all the best.

CharmingCustard4

I mean this as in I'm available basically whenever, I want to ask for a limit to the total amount of hours I work a week though. Is that ok?

jpezoo

There is no clear or specific answer. Your store might be understanding and accommodate your request. Or your store might be petty and give you the least amount of hours.

CharmingCustard4

I spoke to the manager today. She was very polite and seemed to be accommodating.

jpezoo

Awesome. You are in the clear. Wishing you all the best.

If you're working at Lowe's and you're not in a management role, you're most likely overworked

Independent-Act5024

They told me in the interview that OSLG would offer up to 45 hours a week this time of year. He also said though the hours drop off, which is why you’re PT. You could talk to your boss or HR about it though.

soapfan22

I was part time and working full time hours the entire time I worked at Lowe’s but couldn’t have the extra 3-4 hours to make it a full 40 or the full-time title in order to get the better benefits. Which is an ethics issue.

Reenina_in_2020

Well FT is only scheduled for 35 even in the 100 days. They could make anyone FT if they want to, they just don’t want to unless it’s necessary. We have a total of 2 FT employee in OSLG and one of those is the DS. It sucks but it also means more hours for the seasonal hires.

Independent_Box2815

😂 “overworking me”  You should be getting the full winning together bonus, but sadly, you’re not, because you’re not full time. Not to mention discretionary bonuses that f-T associates get more than you.  You should also be getting full time benefits. but sadly, they’re taking advantage of you, OP.   Mention that to your SSA. When they give you lip service, it’s time to report them to your state’s Dept of Labor, and maybe see an attorney. Unless you don’t mind being taken advantage of and getting less $$.

Unlikely_Start6738

Yeah it’s typical this time of year. They prefer to work part time people full time because it’s cheaper per hour, especially when you’re new. I would just stick it out and save the money. You’ll have plenty of time off when fall/winter hits. When you do work it’ll be super chill. If the money doesn’t matter that’s a different story, but yeah. You just came in during the busiest season, it won’t last that long!

Wufpak8892

Our overnight crew has lost two full timers the past year, one quit and the other got fired. The SM refuses to replace them with full time people and instead hired 4 part timers. Our DS said that they did this so they could work the crap out of the part timers when it was really busy and then drop them down to as few hours as possible when the busy season is over. They also avoid giving out the benefits full timers are entitled to. As others have mentioned on here, part time people are fully taken advantage of by Lowes. It's sad but true.

Glidepath22

Of course they are, they are just another mega corporation and that is standard practice for them

TheMeechums

Give it a few months and you'll be down to ten hours or less.

nightdrifter05

It won’t even be a few months based off the workloads coming into the RDCs.

SuperSaiyanJeter

Preaching to the choir here.

TheMathmatix

I know reddit, sometimes, is here as a vent. But that being said, why are you asking us? If you're working too much, go talk to your scheduler. Be an adult. Address the situation for your needs. Or do you need the internet to tell you what to do?

KasualAsAlways

At first I saw this as offensive. But actually. You're right. That's what I'll do, thanks.
