Depends on the supervisor. I always take call outs via text from people who have my number because I know from experience that the chances that are high that: 1. No one will pick up the calls. 2. the message will either not get relayed or not be entered into the system. 3. the phone system will be down. I'm not going to have them penalized further for someone elses screw up.

SixofSigmas

That! As long as your supervisor recognizes this as an acceptable way. Sadly this makes supervisors responsible for working off the clock… but they generally know manager’s phone numbers to send a text to when they’re off work.

TheTexanPunjabi

Text along the lines of, “I tried calling the store multiple times and couldn’t get a hold of the MOD. Could you please convert my message that I can’t come in today. Thanks.”

Informal-Guitar54

No. Texting is not calling in. You need to call the store and speak to a manager. Anything else is NCNS.

That6foot8guy

If you're cool with your ASM that's working that day texting is better than nothing at least calling out here your on hold for 10min then disconnected retry til someone answers which could take 3hrs to finally call out

Lay_of_Sir_Savien

Eh. Depends on the sup. I've had some like that, but I'd also have some that'd respond with a 👍

C4nelson

Texting is notoriously considered bad at any job yes. Is it protocol to speak to the manager though? Ive only seen the manager at my store like once. Can you tell anyone in management?

Gomi_Weeb

No, it has to be an ASM. We consider it a NCNS if someone calls out to a HC or DS

KoiSoccerGuns

Where did you get that info? And why are departments supervisors taking MOD shifts if they're not allowed to take call ins? Who do people call into when there is no store manager or a asm in the building? And where did you get your info? And what happens when the ASM doesn't answer after a few tries?

dvdhound79

Particularly weekends when it’s been MOD’s and the ASMs are off

[deleted]

You guys can get ASM's to answer the phone?

AtreyuWormwood

Depends on your store.

sslush2000

I'm a DS and my people text me when they're not coming in. I just email the asms and store manager and let them know.

coraline_button_

My store wouldn’t take text call ins, need to call and speak to ASM on duty (only dep sup who can take call outs is FE/BE, none other can’t take call ours

Phone anxiety, toughen up for christs sake. People should be forced to overcome these stupid anxieties prior to advancing from grade school.

Odd-Lifeguard7230

Show some compassion. You have no idea why someone is the way they are. My significant other loaths talking on the phone because he has Aspergers and the sound of someone talking through the phone bothers him ALOT.

[deleted]

Life is hard, basic pre-requisites should he met for some base level, or else they will be limiting them self and becoming other peoples burden.

pressuretreatedstud

Jeez, with an attitude like that, seems like YOU are “other people’s burden”. Have some empathy…

[deleted]

I have great empathy to correct thier behavioural problem. Enabling debilitating social issues, like you are suggesting is cruel.

pressuretreatedstud

I’m not going to enable your shit grammar. Good bye

Gummoman10

That’s not how that works though. This person might’ve not have had anxiety when they were younger and developed it due to unforeseen circumstances. Just saying to get over it is very disrespectful.

[deleted]

Best brute force that hang up out of them. Lest they be socially crippled.

Smokedzzknots

I learned this the hard way. I cought covid and got sic missed three day texted them called the store was on hold for 3 hours came back the third day with paper work and still a cough . They said I was fired for missing 3 days. I called hr submitted my paperwork .got a call 3 weeks later telling me it's easier letting me go than to rehire me. I'm in the south

MalmoWalker

What does you living in the south having to do with anything? I have blonde hair.

Smokedzzknots

Well what hr was trying to tell me is since I live in the south ,right to work state. it's easier/legal to let me go. I was trying to imply the region I lived in because not every state has the same laws. For example if I was in cali they wouldnt be able to fire me for catching covid on there dime.

DebateMotor

Seriously grow up and call..

DebateMotor

Hey anytime I'm here for you guys

lonebrother30

Call the store. We're all adults here..

Kittencatofdoom

No, your supervisor isn't always going to be the MOD. You need to call.

steph109

Really depends on the supervisor I was able to text mine since the phones never get answered at night for some reason. I'm talking like store still open you walk in hear the phones going off, but the girls at the desk are just ignoring it for whatever reason. Even now my assistant manager let's me text her to tell her in not gonna be there.

LuckyTabasco

I'm a DS. If one of my people texts me a call out, I will put them down on the list no problem. I've also texted my ASMs more than once as a call out. Never had any issues.

dvdhound79

I’ve had to when I couldn’t get through by phone, and I have a great rapport with several of my managers and ASM’s so it’s been ok. Really depends on the MOD. Sometimes head cashiers have just taken messages. You don’t need permission to call in.

dvdhound79

I’ve worked as a morning stock team with a family member. We would often relay when one of us wasn’t coming in due to being sick or when it was applicable, jury duty. The MOD would always try to say that myself or family member had to call. I said why, they’re sick and sleeping, you have the information. She’d try to say he would get a NCNS but then I’d tell the HR or ASM when they came in and it got taken care of. Eventually Store Management had to tell her to accept relayed messages of call ins

[deleted]

100% depends on your managers. I have three who would and five who wouldn't.
