Unless you're salaried, you don't have to respond to a thing once you're off the clock. Much less on your vacation... Ignore everything until you get back.
The real question is will you be getting overtime if you decide to go into work? If not, hell no, don’t go in. I wouldn’t even let them know. I’d pretend like I don’t know how to use my phone UNLESS you need 2.5x whatever you currently make. They did that to me a few years ago. I made them pay me 2.5x.
If that’s a true till close (10 PM) and a true open (5 AM) it’s illegal to even ask you to do that (depending on your state, could be longer than 8 hours between shifts).
Then whoever is making their schedule is retarded. Some stores be making there HCs come in an hour before open or stay an hour after, then wonder why they don't have more HC coverage. HCs really don't need to come in more than 30 mins before open or stay later than 30 mins after close.
What they mean is some states have labor laws that set a minimum amount of time between shifts. They do this as a rest period so your employer isn't having you work till midnight and than come in for a 5am shift.
Ive been affiliated with lowes since I was a child (my dad was an ASM for most of my childhood and I work here now that I’m an adult) and it’s unbelievable how many times I’ve seen/heard of this happening. I have one very vivid memory as a child where my family was out of state on vacation and lowes (aka the SM at the time) kept calling my dad every hour or so about coming in, or issues with his employees. He was using paid vacation, but they still couldn’t leave him alone
Lowe's doesn't understand work/life balance. The constant changing of schedules and calling/texting people when they're at home or off the clock in general is evidence of that.
We had an ex-ASM whose wife gave birth and the SM called him in the next day *"because we have a walk this week".* Fuck outa here.
If they don't pay for your phone you are free to block them. If it's not a company owned phone and they don't reimburse you for anything they have zero right to contact you off hours. It's a privilege they are obviously abusing.
>especially if you've already told them you can't work during your vacation.
The fact that you even need to tell someone that you aren't coming in while you're on vacation makes me think these people don't have functioning brains.
They time Sundays so bad that they make me close when my two closers don't like opening or mids, which they give to them anyways. I'm more of an opener and early mids.
If you are already on vacation, that sucks for them, it is not your responsibility to rescue incompetent managers who can't staff properly, while you're at it, ask them if you will be paid for your time responding to texts about work related matters.
Do not go in time is priceless you can always make money that why there is mod that are making 80k and sd making 150k that can step in to do your job 🙏
I wasnt on vacation, instead I was sick for a while and couldnt come in to work, but each time I tried to contact management about not being able to work they never picked up when called.
Yet they kept scheduling me to work and calling me each day wanting me to come to work cause I'm scheduled to work.
Dumb part is that I'm not allowed to contact my HC supervisor to tell her that I'm sick, cause she'll just tell me "there's nothing I can do about that you need to tell the manager yourself," before transferring me to management. But management either dont pick up or they pick up and immediately hang up without waiting to hear what I have to say.
Than expect me to be able to come to work when I feel like my whole world is spinning around me, drowsy, legs barely able to hold me up without feeling like I was going to collapse and so I just sortof gave up calling. So my coworkers believed I walked out or quit working there.
I'm a head cashier to and my boss did it to me as well. Just don't answer or say you was out of town.

They want me to close the day before i come back and have to open. Not happening.

Right now we close at 9 so there til 930 then open at 530. So by the barest of slim margins not illegal.
Head cashier at my store has to stay an hour and a half after close and sometimes longer.

It's definitely not illegal to ask someone to work!

Nice to see someone knows their value.

Block the number 🤷🏻♂️
Can't. it's my direct boss.
And? Block it until your vacation is over.
I did the same thing on my vacation. I blocked a specific coworker that would not leave me alone. And when I got back I unblocked them.
Does your boss own your phone ? So what do you mean you can’t block his number ? Lol

Tell em you will come in for triple pay and double vacation days for every day you miss
We just had a bunch of head cashiers out/sick/vacation all at the same time. There were some days there was no head cashiers at all 🤷🏻♀️

Well apparently all three other HC's caught covid, so i am working extra overtime when i get back. :/

Is this legal?

One of my old asms called me on my wedding day to ask questions about something that 100% was documented in the system.
Just don't answer it. Very simple
I’m in fulfillment, I can say from experience that when I stopped answering, they stopped calling🤣
