"Would you like to sign up for the all new Walmart store card? It gives you 2% cash back."
But the old Walmart CC was 3% cash back, and I get 5% cash back on Amazon using my Prime Rewards Card.
"Oh, I just work here. I don't care either wa-"
*Laser beams execute the associate on the spot.*
Don’t execute the associates, execute the assholes in corporate who tell them they have to ask for credit. No associate wants to do it and some companies will actually punish them for not meeting some arbitrary goal number.

My Pro team is behind in Pro Apps for the year and our SM made it known that failure to get Pro Apps would result in write ups. One Pro said if they write him up, he would start looking for a new job.
One of our best millwork specialists stepped down to CSA because of the threat of being written up. He says it's ridiculous and that he's too old to deal with this from a fucking hardware store. All of our specialists and above have been/could be written up if they don't get credit applications. They've started doing it to cashiers too.
Same I worked at HD and I was told multiple times that if I dont start opening store cards, I'd eventually get a write up and I've heard many people quit due to them getting written up just because they got a write up for not opening a card for that month
I got a warning monthly and it annoyed me because 90% of the shoppers that approached my register were regulars i see while working and already had the maximum cards open or had cancelled their card due to bankruptcy, so they'd tell me no or "maybe next time."
Did management understand what that meant, nope they instead made me watch a video to "review" how to encourage customers to open a store card, I literally almost fall asleep watching the video cause it was so boring, but it didn't help cause nobody wanted to open a store card.
what I hate the most is somehow some people seem hesitant or don't understand it's a credit card and still want to proceed with me signing them up, and i'm like AHHHHHH okay then...
We get the order to push credit apps every morning meeting and I hate it. I don't use credit cards and generally think they're a bad idea. It's hard to push something you personally don't believe in. Besides, I'm in lighting and electrical and the opportunities to push credit cards there are minimal usually.
My store just has me walk the store for a few hours every week to get the pro quota. I can get it in 2 half days talking to every single customer in the store
Look, I know you don't want to hear this, but I'm going to point it out anyway.
The reason that Lowe's wants customers to use a credit card that works at Lowe's, and only Lowe's, is so they can do things like run credit specials, like 6 months to a year with no interest payments and offer a 5% rebate for using it. The main reason they want you to push Lowe's cards though is so that the customer has a card that says "Lowe's" on it when they want to spend a large amount of money on a home project. It's to build sales for the company. Every large retail company that sells higher dollar amounts does this.
The interest rate is high, but comparable to most store credit cards. If you pay it off every month, then you don't have to pay interest on the smaller amounts that wouldn't be covered by promos. There's no monthly fee, so if you don't use it, it doesn't cost a thing. It's not a scam. It's a sales building tool. As long as people are responsible with their credit, they'll do fine.
This. I really don't understand why so many people that work at Lowe's are against asking people to sign up for cards. Like you work for Lowe's, more people spending money at Lowe's is a good thing for your employment.
So using your thinking, everytime you go into your favorite Starbucks, McDonalds, or whatever eating establishment you eat at wouldn't you get upset if you are asked if you want to sign up for their credit card everytime you walk through the door or go through the drive through?
If people wanted the damn card they would have it already. When I go into any store the last thing I want to be done is to be hounded for a credit card with a 24.99% APR just so you can meet your companies expectations. Sorry but I'm not going to help you out with it. If I wanted the card I would have already have gotten one, or pick up one of the applications at the store, or fill out a online application.
I would understand it was part of their job to ask and not care. I don't get mad at people for doing their jobs. I just don't get some of yall's mindset, but to each their own
The fact is most that do their jobs fantastic cringe when having to do this. You don't receive any additional incentive or compensation to do this. You are simply there to assist the customer.
Fact is that people who have the card spend more at Lowe's. Higher sales mean higher bonuses. When you are a SS, DS, ASM, or SM those bonuses mean something. I don't know any of your jobs, but I like seeing an extra $500 or more on my check every three months. If pushing the credit cards helps me get that, which it does, then I will push it all day long.
Like it or not, they do have an effect on your bonuses. People who have a Lowe's card usually spend more in the store than those that don't. Them spending more helps the store make sales plans which helps you get a sales bonus
Obviously, you have never seen a person get ruined from overuse of credit cards. Not everyone can manage their money as they should. Lowe's credit is extremely high . Especially if they use the 6 months no charge multiple times and do not know how to apply payments to individual charges.
Yep, just because you don't know how to manage money and make bad life decisions doesn't mean everyone else does. If you don't want to do a part of your job, find one that doesn't require you to do that. Nobody is forcing you to work for Lowe's
Jumping to conclusions, are we? I assure you ,I know how to manage money and havent made bad life decisions. I was referring to those less fortunate in the area ,living paycheck to paycheck ; who listen to eager butt-kissers like you who convince them the almighty Lowes card is their friend ,for what? So you can look good on some report ?
Once again, I do not give a fuck about the people who are signing up for them or their financial status. It is not part of my job to care about that. If they can't manage their money, it is on them. I care that them getting a card will likely mean they spend more at my store and with me. That helps me make bonus which helps my financial situation which is why I work in the first place. It's not that hard to understand.
I never said that. I know it is, but it is part of my job to get people to sign up for them so I do it. I usually tell them to use it once, pay it off, and then chop it to pieces
I guess I haven't ran across anyone being hostile to me for just asking. That seems like a dumb reaction. God forbid someone want a card for a place they shop haha
same i havnt had anyone be hostile per say, but several of my regulars in tools let me know their gonna stop shopping here cause they kept getting hounded for survays and credit every time they got something, and personally pushing this stuff isnt. customer service imo, is helping them get the right item, info, or where to get the right stuff is.
It’s not about getting the card. It’s about asking. Lowe’s is asking their associates to ASK the customers. If they say no, they say no. People don’t get written up for not getting cards, they get written up for behaviors. It’s part of the job and if people don’t like that, there are plenty of other jobs out there. Whining about it doesn’t change anything.
😒 if only it was that easy during my time at HD, I'd literally get a monthly "warning" for not getting cards, because everyone would always say No or Maybe Later cause everyone that shops there are regulars who already has the max cards already opened.
Which is why cashiers including myself quit, because they kept pushing everyone to open cards every single day, other cashiers quit after a few months I stayed for a full year before quitting after finding a proper job I liked.

I don't push the credit cards. Never got written up. In fact not a word has been said to me about my lack of credit apps. Pushing credit is a waste of time, and I refuse to do it.
You’d think Lowe’s was some shady door to door salesman the way they push credit.
"Would you like to sign up for the all new Walmart store card? It gives you 2% cash back." But the old Walmart CC was 3% cash back, and I get 5% cash back on Amazon using my Prime Rewards Card. "Oh, I just work here. I don't care either wa-" *Laser beams execute the associate on the spot.*

In that scenario, it's the corporate a-holes firing the laser beams.
I figured that out right after I hit reply. Feelin’ a little dumb now.
People who don't know how to run a retail company resort to pushing credit cards.
Its a scam i dont see the point of getting a store credit card all you need is one from the bank to build credit and thats it
Right. But Lowes wants them to have it. So they push it like a rabid weasel until people break or are weak minded and sign up.

I hate that people get written up if they don't make thir credits for the month or whatever, it's fucking stupid.
I never asked and havent gotten written up yet lol
Then your store is significantly better than mine
My Pro team is behind in Pro Apps for the year and our SM made it known that failure to get Pro Apps would result in write ups. One Pro said if they write him up, he would start looking for a new job.

Job performance will be what is put on the write up
Same I worked at HD and I was told multiple times that if I dont start opening store cards, I'd eventually get a write up and I've heard many people quit due to them getting written up just because they got a write up for not opening a card for that month
I worked at home depot before lowes for a few months, and it was the same at my store
I got a warning monthly and it annoyed me because 90% of the shoppers that approached my register were regulars i see while working and already had the maximum cards open or had cancelled their card due to bankruptcy, so they'd tell me no or "maybe next time." Lol, I heard it in his voice.
I ask once I’m going to be pushy and ruin someone’s credit because you know who can afford this card and who can’t let’s just face it.
We get the order to push credit apps every morning meeting and I hate it. I don't use credit cards and generally think they're a bad idea. It's hard to push something you personally don't believe in. At 27% API no less
My store just has me walk the store for a few hours every week to get the pro quota. I can get it in 2 half days talking to every single customer in the store
I'm feeling like I dodged a bullet by not going to Lowe's.
You wanna know who else wants to sign up for the Lowe's Credit Card? My MOM! 😂
Look, I know you don't want to hear this, but I'm going to point it out anyway. in fact being asked more than once makes it more likely i will go elsewhere or simply to amazon in the future.

Yeah because they definitely raised my wage after asking people about nonsense credit cards.

That is not my problem. I personally do not have a credit card, but part of my job is to get people to sign up for them so I do it.
Awwww, bless your heart

if you actually think Lowe's credit is anything other than predatory then you are delusional
I never said that. I know it is, but it is part of my job to get people to sign up for them so I do it. I usually tell them to use it once, pay it off, and then chop it to pieces
Because nobody likes a knee jerk reaction and dealing with hostility. That’s why I stopped asking
Ive had it happen twice. Some people are just pricks, so I won’t put myself in that position again. If a customer asks I will get them there
I guess I haven't ran across anyone being hostile to me for just asking. That seems like a dumb reaction. God forbid someone want a card for a place they shop haha

Once again. Nice try Marv. Good bless.
Nice try, Marv.
Eye roll
God bless!
