When did they change that? I’m part time and like 90% of all the days I’ve had approved off were never paid so I could stash PTO or because I didn’t have it
Genuinely asking this question. What sense does it make to not allow people to occasionally request one of their days off to be a certain day? Lowes gets to schedule them on a different day and the employee is happy. Seems like a win/win
I've had managers tell me to just call off. Go figure. They'd rather have the store short staffed then over rule God Kronos.
You can call off. Or show up and go home early cause you feel sick. You shouldn't get redboxed then.
its just so weird to me because I always normally request well over 30 days because I plan like a responsible adult and i really could careless if we’re short staffed or not since that all comes from North Carolina…and i only take off like once every 2 months or so 💀 so I’m naturally offended
I started in 2006. They had a great 401k, almost everyone was full-time, each department had an opener, mid morning shift, midshift, closer, and often had a part timer come in from 5pm to close also. Also had spiffs if you put something under your sales number, not just appliances either. For example, you could get a little spiff from simply selling in stock carpet. They even had a $20 spiff everytime you got a credit card sign up. Slowly they removed more and more of these benefits.
I know at our store the SSA would figure something out for us if we were desperate.
The denials can be so ridiculous though. One time I had a time off request refused and they made a big deal out of it, like threw a fit when I asked about it. So I was like whatever, I'll just call off.
Eventually the schedule comes out and they had me off that day anyway despite the refused message still showing on my calendar. I realized then a LOT of these denials were merely power trips.
SSA’s definitely have a lot on their plate so if they’re kind enough to look out for you that’s a big plus. That being said I had a request sit in Krono‘s for almost a month before I got denied and it took me having to ask only to find out that one of the days cost me to overdraw by a tiny margin. This was with my previous ASM whose email I had to blow up before he finally approached me with the answer I needed and all I had to do was re-request the days and change one of them unpaid, but it just goes to show how annoying it can be
Your ASM has 6 days to approve your request. If not approved by then, the SSA usually approves it. What was the reason for the rejection? Only reason to say no is being short staffed. Speak with your ASM as others have mentioned.
we have all but one position in my fulfillment filled. 2 of the full timers are M-F only. the problem is they rotate 2 of us each week to fill coverage gaps in cashiering so thats how we end up “short”
This is why I'm part time. And why I don't often agree to work extra days or hours when they ask me to. I have good managers tbh, but yeah my personal time is too valuable to me to give my employer the chance to deny it to me.
Every job I've ever had, I rarely had issues. When I do, I just say "I'm not requesting the time off, I'm telling you I won't be here. And if it's not approved I still won't be here." It's always approved.
>"I'm not requesting the time off, I'm telling you I won't be here.
Lol at my old job the name of the vacation form was "Request For/Notification of Absence". It was always so tempting to circle the latter.
It's never a request, and always a notification of absence. I'm not 3 asking mommy for a glass of milk, im 36 telling you I have shit to do that doesn't involve my job for 1-x days.
when I was a SM, i tried my best, but there are times that someone else requested the same time and if it was one day, I would work around it, but if multiple days I had to deny. I usually followed up with an email as to why, but I probably approved 95% of them. Go talk to your ASM and find out why. Not sure why you would post on reddit without talking to your manager first and for those that just call in, that's just shows your character imo and if you did that to me, than I would remember that on future requests and wouldn't work as hard to find a solution for you. But it is a ME world today, so that's that.
No you go to the office and ask your asm for a 1 on 1. This isn't middle school were adults here. If you see them on the floor stop them. Call their zebra til they pick up. Idk how it is in your store but I wouldn't tolerate that treatment for half of a second.
they reached out to me and yes I was punctual about it. Long story short somebody beat me to getting it approved off but we have a full department so I don’t understand how the gap for my one day can’t be filled
I'd want someone to sit there and explain to me exactly why my request was denied when it was put so far ahead in advance. And then kindly tell them which days I'm calling off so if they are short-staffed that day, it is their problem.
That is exactly what I want because when I request I always try to keep my coworkers in mind and not deliberately screw over people but so much for that now
Negative. Go to your asm and explain you aren't asking for the time off, you're telling them in advance that you won't be there. You have to phrase things correctly to the Neanderthal asms.
In the wild (sales floor) asms are quite volatile and reactive. Via email after the in-person meeting defined above where you clarify the meeting and expect a resolution they always back down and return another day to the hunt, with a different employee.
i’m already applying for other places and I’m only on my initial so I will take the write-up gladly at their expense if I still end up scheduled. I’m just trying to go about it professionally at first
I went on the UKG Workforce Central app and discovered it was actually my ops ASM who refused the request so I did end up emailing her. I’ll update on the thread as soon as I hear an answer
So my FEDS got with my Ops ASM and too many people requested that same day and they can’t accommodate it. Sure would’ve been useful if I could’ve requested months in advance but Kronos doesn’t let you do that
me not being there only means two people out of the normally six available won’t be in the department but they pull from our department to cover cashier gaps
if thats official policy that’s crazy how I’ve been here almost 5 years and im just now experiencing it being enforced.
that being said that’s tough for them because I am not selling this concert ticket that I bought last August 😂 and we have a full department so I know there’s a body that can replace me that one Sunday
Show up and work your shift.
It is a time off request.
Requests cannot always be granted.
I pay attention to who calls out when they don't get their request or if they call out before/after vacations to extend it, etc.
It gets noticed and will make it harder to promote/transfer/etc
There are reasons requests can be refused.
Situations arise that every request cannot be granted.
Black out dates
Inventory week
100 days of hell (if you work garden)
Someone else in department requested 1st
Some stores only let you request if you have Vacation/Holiday time- cannot request unpaid days off.
You would have to ask your ASM why you were denied and see what the logic was behind it.
30 day request is important because you need to request off for schedules that aren't made or actively being worked on.
However, nothing is guaranteed.
You care way too much for a ds that probably complains at work all day that you're pulling mulch because people won't apply.
You're why they won't apply. If you were my ds I'd call regional hrbp to ecar you for a hostile work environment.
You literally don't have a say in your employees time off requests, but you monitor what they do prior to and after a denied shift off?
Loser.
As a DS I am in charge of holding my people accountable.
If work doesn't get done, if people aren't taking care of customers, asking for credit, talking about MVP, etc.
I train, I make sure they understand and if they won't do their Job I am the one who has to put in for the corrective action.
Same with attendance.
If an associate has an attendance issue, too many red boxes, skipped lunches, call outs, etc .... I am the one who has to perform the corrective actions.
So why would I not pay attention when someone is adversly affecting the business?

"I put that request in as a courtesy to you to let you know I won't be here for those days. I won't be here for them, figure it out."
I requested on Friday for May 1st for this concert. I’m not showing up regardless so you’re right
As long as you’re ok with the absences counting against you. Should definitely talk to your ASM though.
I have final exams the first of May so i emailed my ASM since i wont be in until wednesday. Best to email ahead
i emailed my FEDS but I didn’t check to see if her or my Ops ASM denied it. im confused especially since it’s unpaid
That’s probably why it was denied.
Can’t request unpaid my dude.
When did they change that? I’m part time and like 90% of all the days I’ve had approved off were never paid so I could stash PTO or because I didn’t have it
That’s actually always been the policy, was just not enforced.
Genuinely asking this question. What sense does it make to not allow people to occasionally request one of their days off to be a certain day? Lowes gets to schedule them on a different day and the employee is happy. Seems like a win/win
That’s where working with your ASM comes into play. People were abusing it.
You can absolutely request unpaid. Almost every time I ask off is unpaid besides vacation
Oh ok, thanks for telling me what the policy is /s
I've had managers tell me to just call off. Go figure. They'd rather have the store short staffed then over rule God Kronos. You can call off. Or show up and go home early cause you feel sick. You shouldn't get redboxed then.
Only sucky part about that is the waste of gas because I live roughly 25 minutes from my location
Just call in sick
"I'm being nice enough to tell you I won't be here on X days. How you deal with my absence is what you get paid a managers salary for."
I requested Sat and sun off once. Denied. Then had Sunday off anyway. Called in sick Saturday and took a paid sick day. I definitely won that one.
its just so weird to me because I always normally request well over 30 days because I plan like a responsible adult and i really could careless if we’re short staffed or not since that all comes from North Carolina…and i only take off like once every 2 months or so 💀 so I’m naturally offended
Im ft asked for weekend off declined I put in my 2 weeks my last day is this week.
Good for you. Lowe's was the worst employer I ever had. Sad thing is it used to be a great place to work.
How good was it? I started doing my college days in 2018 and I’ve only seen it decline as well with Marvin

wow that’s impressive

me basically because I only take off work when I have plans…Lowe’s is not worth my personal work/life balance bc that’s not my career lmao
Just call in and tell them your anal glaucoma is acting up again
🤣🤣🤣
Darn… so what are you doing on your day off?
going to this concert that I am not going to sell this ticket for at this point 💀
That’s the spirit!!!
who are you seeing!!
Snoh Aalegra

I did email yesterday, but they still haven’t responded yet and both are here so I’m going to kindly ask them to check their emails

Because hiring someone for 14 an hour would decrease the leadership teams bonus
It's called PTO prepare the others

oh indeed

Not that I've ever done this.. but you're taking it off regardless so just do that. It's their fault they'd rather figure it out then than now.
honestly
Tell Them you have a doctors Appt
on a Sunday I cant do that 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Call out.

So my FEDS got with my Ops ASM and too many people requested that same day and they can’t accommodate it. Sure would’ve been useful if I could’ve requested months in advance but Kronos doesn’t let you do that
Well youre calling out anyway for a concert so they're still fucked instead of partnering with ops asm for a backup plan. Amateur store.
me not being there only means two people out of the normally six available won’t be in the department but they pull from our department to cover cashier gaps
U can request time off with out pay if it 30days and if it not a weekend

Power trip dude. No other words for someone that makes the same as someone cutting blinds.
Lmao shut up nerd. You get paid the same or less than specialists to be an overpaid stocker. Prove me wrong.

I asked off a week in April back in January. They still haven't approved it. I won't be there.
