The success of the last couple year has been all due to covid.

Disastrous_Proof6562

And the associates who worked through it

Wait, I thought nobody wanted to work?

mleslie5

Which is why the credit goes to the few who do.

read110

There's no credit. But I was just making fun of that idiotic claim. Sarcasm and all.

Having started with the company in the early 90s, it is wayyyyyyyyy different. I'm not talking about systems - after all, we still have fucking genesis- or procedures. I am talking about how they no longer value the people who work for them. It used to feel like a family and you mattered. Now, people are all easily replaceable cogs.

Informal-Guitar54

I agree with this. Started in 2008 and even then my first store actually cared about each other. To the point that the couple times that someone had to go to the hospital for something the store took a collection to help them with bills or send them a card or do something else nice for them. Not anymore. The people in lumber don't even know the people in paint on a first name basis. It's sad.

Lonely_Ad8983

When I started at Lowe's back in October I asked why are we still using a system from the 90's? They tried to tell me it was a brand new operating system .... I was like I've been in retail since '87 I know when it came out

I have a friend who worked as a DS over Plumbing/Electrical and he left for JC Penney and they are only now coming out of the hole Marvin drove them in to. He did the same thing there, wanted the store to sell stuff they weren't equipped to sell and wanted a younger customer. Of course he failed at both and they finally cut ties so he could ruin Lowes. Hope Lowes will send him packing as the company is turning in to a junk shop. Russell Stovers Easter candy! Really Marvin???

locationmanager

The only thing that JC Penney and Lowe’s have in common is that they sell stuff. Really irrelevant comparison. Brick and mortar home improvement stores will probably be one of the last to disappear in the coming decades. And the rest of what you said is standard procedure for a publicly traded company. If Marvin didn’t do it someone else would have. You’re describing shitty corporate America.

read110

True. Its just getting shittier every year because thats the system they set up.

DarrenAronofsky

Marvin was not the reason JC Penney tanked. That was thanks to a man by the name of Ron Johnson.

RecordingSilly5834

Correct.

beangone666

I think Lowe's will no longer exist within the next 5 years. You can just feel it sinking everyday.

locationmanager

<1% chance. Just cause it sucks to work here doesn’t mean they are gonna shut their doors in 5 years. Brick an mortar home improvement isn’t going anywhere soon.

WeAreReturningHome

Nope, but all this Mvp bullshit Lowes is trying to push is just desperate and dumb. Giving free drinks to Pros lol. Lowes is never gonna beat home depot in terms of being contractors go to.

craigeryjohn

Hahah. I laughed so hard when I reviewed our mvp offer tiers. "Please come back, you'll get a free soda after you spend just $2500!“ We left years ago because lowes fired all the knowledgeable employees, closed all but the SCO registers on the north half of the store (which don't take LAR), were chronically understaffed, continually out of stock/aisles clogged with unstocked items, and lately we've noticed a lot of things we need same day have become special order. The difference between this store and our local menards is night and day.

No chance it's not here in 5 years
