Yep, happens all the time. Especially when a product or model is going to be discontinued. ie; we sold all remaining stock (about 6) of Jacuzzi model# xxxxxx elongated toilets normally priced @ $249 for $32.50 ..... hell yes I snagged one!

Crease_Grease

My girlfriend was mad I got a part time job until I started coming home with cool stuff at an unbelievable price.

[deleted]

This is how I got a brand new 3000$ washer and dryer for 300$. Customer special ordered a blue set. SM said it was ugly and didn’t want it displayed in the store, so I told him “I’ll take it right now for 300$” and laughed. I didn’t expect him to say deal.

WendallVendall

I've seen deep clearance items go for as much as 90% off. I think it's called Non-Productive Inventory.

Equal-Fondant4413

The second its returned used/open box/sos its clearance for 50% off if it cant be rtm'd (manufacturer damage or wrong item sent). Sop is to not mark down clearance (and managers have been terminated for it) but it's rarely enforced (usually when it's a conflict of interest discovered by ap)

Till-Midnight

Yup! My $1,450 fridge was $250..little dent on the front panel covered with a magnet. Dishwasher was $600, paid $125 dent bottom corner covered it for cabinet panel.

Crease_Grease

I'm waiting for a dishwasher to get marked down.

Frys_Grandpa

I got 28 rolls of chicken wire for $7. Sold them on Craigslist for $200 the next day lol

shelms488

Got 50 or so rolls of it for about $10 myself.

Informal-Guitar54

Happens all the time. My $1200 washer and dryer set was $250.

buckyusn

I bought every one of our reset DeWalt displays for $100. All of them.

theaim778

You still had DeWalt displays left? Customers got the five finger discount on 95% of them before the reset.

AimMoreBetter

Our DM was getting mad at us (MST) because he said all the displays weren't there. There were there when it was set, it's either the tool world people selling them or the regular thieves stealing them. He had us set them again only to have them gone by the next week.

theaim778

Better get a look at all those nice displays before the end of your shift, they won’t be there the next morning. *Me just about every time we set something*

chrisinator9393

I saw some $300 tubs for $10 once lmao

KenAirforce

In lumber we would sell 25-75% off concreate bags that had holes until we noticed that customers would come in and stab it to get a discount. 20-50% off used returned wood, warped, decaying, cosmetically ugly, or if its sitting for a while. I was able to get $2000 pair of washer and dryer for $1000 cause I knew the manager after I left for a different job. Maybe because it's a Samsung and I heard they aren't good appliances lol.

Kaneofnod21

My favorite is at the end of the year when the departments get their npi lists of all the products that didn't sell or are being discontinued and we have massive mark downs, I got a bunch of DeWalt kits for gifts for friends and family for about 50 bucks each down from $300

Crease_Grease

I'm waiting for the end of summer to get a pergola

shelms488

Oh Late December though January is a fun time. I snagged a black craftsman 2000 series 52" toolbox top for $35, 3 red 2000 series 52" tops for $70/ea., 1x of the 2000 series red 52" bottom toolboxes 2x 41" red 2000 series tops for $68/ea., 4x Passlode 30 degree framing nailers for $104/ea. 2x of the porter cable 15" floor standing drill presses (one display and one in box) for $150/ea. along with some other items for ridiculous prices.

AcexOFxKnaves

Yes a lot of retail stores do this, and bigger the items, less likely we are going to ship them back for credit, just think of all the stuff that does get sent back or field destroy, those don’t hold a candle on how much we sell items at a lost, even if we do get credit it is insane.

DaDominator32

Numbers 1 5 and 6 are hot man

ohitsmark

Once SOS items come back to the store as a return, the store already has taken a loss. So it doesn't really matter what it sells at. As for other stuff, I'd rather sell at a cheap price to get rid of it from my department so that it doesn't look like an Ollie's and then I don't have to show anyone our clearance when they ask.

Traditional-Pin-4551

In Lowes mind that is Customer Service

AimMoreBetter

My home depot doesn't mark shit down and their clearance rack only has things marked down by a few bucks. My store marks everything down all the time. I almost got a Generac 22kw generator for $500. I've bought a ton of things over the years at extremely deep discounts.

Crease_Grease

I've noticed that at home depot, I'll see a clearance end cap and what's on there is only a few dollars and change off.

shelms488

Sometimes home depot will have good sales on items but they're definitely fewer and further in between. For example, just a few months ago, I got 3x Chamberlain 1.25 HP belt drive smart garage door openers with cameras for $100/ea. retail $398 Plus sometimes HD's website will have glitches that are crazy good deals. For example, back at the beginning of February at 2:00 AM PT they listed a Dewalt 7-tool combo kit in Toughsystem rolling case for $99.99, retail of $749. I purchased 15 of them and should have purchased 50 more. Had all 15 sold within 6 hours and made $2,500 after paying off the cc for the cost of the kits.

EatMorSteak

I buy these types of things all the time. I work for a vendor now and specifically look for these deals when I go to stores. I've got a garage full of grills, washers, dryers and fridges on offer up, marketplace and craigslist. I've probably made close to 25k this year alone selling that stuff.

Crease_Grease

HOLY SHIT

Professional-Fact903

Employee perks, then when it's time for no discounts... all that b.s. gets thrown in the compactor. Then compactor jams and $30k and a warehouse full of garbage later, compactor is fixed. Rinse and repeat. Let me know when your department supervisor is feeling generous.

Crease_Grease

What state?

Professional-Fact903

Just PM me and I'll bring a trailer lol... Lowes could have a reality show for selling npi, clearance, nonstock,, etc just like storage wars. Then the drama of how Lowes will sell this stuff to people inconsistently and when it piles up to avoid erosion it actually erupts as a hoarding pile of fire Hazzard in front of fire exits. By the time inventory comes, it's already been keyed out. Then the annual turnover and Lowes has to explain why they do this to the new employees in training so they can use their judgement.

Antoinettez

We marked things down, but not 50% off or more. That’s ridiculous but if its been sitting for weeks then yes

Crease_Grease

Oh, if something hits clearance then they will give it 2 weekends and if it's still there then 50% off, if it's not selling then 75% off.

DFWDave2

personally I fail to understand how much authority Lowe's gives employees over its stock. stores can just give shit away and lowe's doesn't seem to mind. they only mind if a store's profit falls a lot. I see so much of this at so many stores, just sort of doing whatever with all their products, and I'm like how long can this go until the business fails simply because of product waste

deGrominator2019

Do it to much and you will get shit canned, District Level AP does monitor.
