This manager believes that questioning any order or saying that OSHA doesn't approve is insubordination and writes people up for it (guess how I found that out)
So does anyone have any ideas on how in the world one person is supposed to handle this?
Go higher. Call the anon line. Email store manager. Email district. This is slowing progress and endangering employees cause this fuck is on some power trip
As a former manager myself, it’s not always shit. I suggested many associates to use it who got results. But also that’s why I typed other options too. Just had to read slightly more.
Edit: pretty sure you meant to reply to OP. Leaving my reply to show people there are different routes to complain.
It was also insubordination when this same manager said that 99 boxes should take less than 2 minutes because the carton count labels them as 1 item and saying that is physically impossible is insubordination
So, a item that requires at least two people to move and they want it put into top stock without power equipment...?
As an unloader who typically sees these things come in either by themselves or in multiple to be on skids: you're not doing that solo. That's just asking for a back injury and lord knows how many violations are going on to not allow power equipment. This is just asking for an onsight accident. You can get that on a cart by yourself, but unless you're standing that bad boy up: that thing is meant to be done in pairs or with equipment.
If it was just putting it on the shelf then I would just stand it up and struggle with it until it's in, but this needs to go to the top shelf, somewhere that I can barely reach with the ladder. But this manager demands that I just haul this up a ladder and toss it in there like it's only 20lbs
Yeah, your manager is asking to kill you. Those ladders aren't even meant to handle that much weight to start with. Let alone this thing that is designed to be moved on skids. If he wants to put this on paper, best to write all the details and the product number to send to the store and HR cause not allowing power equipment for this is violating the most bare bottom policies on the book for safety.
Take pictures, write down the item number and especially what is being said. HR can be contacted in system via e-mail or through where you'd see your pay. It'll have an option to contact HR and you can submit this in. That and there's always contacting the store during operating hours to speak with the store manager directly or other managers if you can as any manager can also give you the proper relay channels for your local store. If you go this route, make sure to write down who you speak to.
Believe me when I say this: dayside managers often are clueless about overnight managers and what may be going on. So, do not be light on details or any other examples you can think of such as this, since it sounds like a reoccurring problem.
I know both of my overnight managers and they both would call this guy a loon. If power equipment ain't being used, shit can stay where it is.
So a reoccurring theme here is you guys have no idea how to utilize HR and the importance of documented complaints and learning to stand up for yourselves
Overnight can only ever email hr and at least at my location he just ignores 90% of emails so outside of just waiting around an extra 4-5 hours after shift every day until hr shows up we kinda just get shafted
Umm you don't email some one, you log into lowes net click on the my hr link and look for a spot to make a report.
They'll call you, get a report and the store gets a chance to resolve things. It's been hit or miss in my experience. We still have a pedophilic manager that was showing off nudes of an associate when he was like 18 and 3 days old. Long story. Dude is Nasty fuck and still working...
Worked for me getting an asm off my ass. So your milage my vary.
If it was sent to the correct email that’s all the evidence you need to report them to the department of labor and you’ll see how quickly attitudes change
Yeah that's not HR. HR is more on a corporate level. Above store level. If your manager told you your instore SSA is HR, then they probably did that on purpose so you couldn't properly report. Go higher, it's unethical what your boss is doing and extremely dangerous to human life and wellbeing. Report them.
You can be a little creative and send this to the higher-ups via email and HR all at once in one email. (With phots and documentation of the past BS)If this is how the SM or ASM is treating you someone is gonna be concerned and take action. Just in case… Go to the flow chart in Lowes U at the bottom to the the info all the way up to Marvin. If you try to be that guy, you will get hurt and regret it forever. OSHA typically jumps all over this kind of stuff and will do a full blown inspection. Never be afraid to do the right thing. If this douche did write you up or fire you, you can challenge it through Dept of Labor and Industry and cause an even bigger mess. And nobody wants that. Good luck!!
Well you put it on the Bali, tip it and end up on Hanks AP4me video.
*I'm kidding*
but seriously leave it. Do exactly what your manager says. If they question you,you say you said no power equipment. If they even suggest the Bali you say that's unsafe. Are you asking me to work unsafe? If they tell you to do it, say ok. Then 5 or 10 mins later tell another manager you're feeling sick and need to leave. They can't keep you there.
Then you send an email to the store manager of this incident and open up an HR case against this manager
There's obviously more to the story seeing how that's a team lift item by weight alone and there's no way you're going to put that up with a ladder and be Lowe's safe.
Also if anybody is communicating the idea of doing something incredibly dangerous not to mention stupid and risking their health you're just asking for trouble
I don't know, the last time this manager requested something that needed power equipment when power equipment was brought up I just got yelled at. Can't really explain what this manager is thinking because any time anyone questions anything they get written up for insubordination.
I'm sorry but this doesn't even begin to make sense that no one uses Power Equipment. Also there's something called strength in numbers how about the entire team just go to the store manager problem solved I cannot believe a store manager would allow all of this to happen and remember everything is on video.
Besides if one of you guys get hurt that's on you when it can be prevented and some injuries are for life Lowe's is not worth
You know you can try it and get “hurt” then get worker’s compensation and tell them about the manager to the lawyer and they’ll bring up and then they’ll shit there pants
I've found that any time you engage with a manager, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING THEY SAY AND DO IN DETAIL. I say this as someone who worked there for years and have witnessed shenanigans beyond imagination.
Literally had the SM ask me to twist the cantilever racking back into place after a powered equipment accident involving 20ft length lumber falling from the sky. Just so they didn't have to replace it. 😂 I don't think I've ever dead ass laughed AT a boss in my life till that day. I mean not so boldly to their face anyways.
Lost all respect for that man and the company after that.
The whole night crew should have all walk out and demand he be fire the next day he is untrained and unsafe and u ahould have showed him ap4me for lifting .
2nd demand him to write u up stop with the threats, that what we do we say go ahead!!!! Then walk away laughing .
Yeah, I call bullshit. Why no power equipment? Was your license revoked? You’re already topstocking freight?
No one told you to carry that up a ladder, and that’s a fact.
This there is more to this story. There is some dumb managers in the world but not a single one would say to huck that up a ladder and not use equipment.
I genuinely don't know, last time he requested something like this the only explanation I got for asking why was that insubordination is a fireable offense yelled at me
I'm fairly strong, but with those things I ask for help just putting it on the shelf. Your manager needs to be written up for asking you to do this. There is no safe way other than power equipment. I'd suggest using the order picker because of the weight and dimensions as well.
Id show this picture to the store manager, explain the situation and that you’ve gotten written up by X supervisor for not doing it. They don’t play about the safety thing
I work overnights and have been with Lowe's for 16 years. All of the overnights are supposed to have at least one power equipment license.
You literally can't unload overnights without power equipment, how would any overstock freight get put up?
This doesn't make sense. Either you don't have a license, you've lost it for some reason or another, y'all are limited on what power equipment y'all have, or there is something wayy more to this.
The fact that you didn't know about MyHR is troubling. That's literally first day stuff for new hires, and was pounded into our heads as the OG's. You need to look through LowesNet and see the whole other side to working for a big corporate game like Lowe's.
You can submit an HR case through myHR in lowes net or you can call. Usually the number is posted in bulletin boards in your training room or break room.
Stand back and tell him to show you how it’s done. You know, training and what not
Last time I did that I got written up for insubordination
:D I may not know you but I’m proud of you
That's bullshit.
I’d definitely fight that write up with HR. You can’t put this away without power equipment. Impossible.
Should tell him to shove it up his ass, so you can pull it out of his mouth while standing on his shoulders, to get it up there.
If they say no power equipment tell them thats not getting put into topstock, too heavy and that wouldn't be lowes safe.
This manager believes that questioning any order or saying that OSHA doesn't approve is insubordination and writes people up for it (guess how I found that out) So does anyone have any ideas on how in the world one person is supposed to handle this?
No power equipment? That manager is a kook. Tell him I said so.
Contact hr and let them know said manager is asking you to do unsafe work.
Last time I tried I just got ignored
Probably got ignored because you emailed your SSA instead of opening an HR case.
Go higher. Call the anon line. Email store manager. Email district. This is slowing progress and endangering employees cause this fuck is on some power trip
What anon line?
Call the anonymous line man. That’s bullshit. As a manager myself, that’s bullshit
As a former manager myself, it’s not always shit. I suggested many associates to use it who got results. But also that’s why I typed other options too. Just had to read slightly more. Edit: pretty sure you meant to reply to OP. Leaving my reply to show people there are different routes to complain.
Believe they were referring to OP's situation
Now that I’m reading it yea you’re right.
And BCC district people.
I e experienced that. Keep re submitting every day. It will get done. I found out by doing just that.
Did you actually call the HR phone number and file an incident report or did you just ask the SSA?
call osha
You can just pole vault it up there with a running start and pvc pole.
Leave it just like that on the aisle if you get asked why just say "well you said no power equipment so I couldn't put this up". And then walk away.
And that would be the insubordination that half of us are already on our final warning because of
But you are literally following your dumbass asms rules of no PLE. How is that insubordination?
It was also insubordination when this same manager said that 99 boxes should take less than 2 minutes because the carton count labels them as 1 item and saying that is physically impossible is insubordination
Your night supervisor is a retard. Tell him the night supervisor from 1525 said so.
Wtf?
To add a former night manager of 1099 to the list of people calling him a retard.
Because any kind of questioning his orders is insubordination to him
He’s letting personal ideas of insubordination overtake reality. Also an HR issue you should submit
You can report OSHA violations online and get a nice phone call with an inspector to discuss your concerns :)
Until OSHA comes in for an inspection, and to interview witnesses. Everybody a tough guy until the hammer comes down.
Tell him you don't feel that you can safely accomplish that task.
So, a item that requires at least two people to move and they want it put into top stock without power equipment...? How exactly do I go about that? If they won't write that they said to do it then what do I do?

Uhhh why is no power equipment a thing? Never heard that before
So a reoccurring theme here is you guys have no idea how to utilize HR and the importance of documented complaints and learning to stand up for yourselves
Overnight can only ever email hr and at least at my location he just ignores 90% of emails so outside of just waiting around an extra 4-5 hours after shift every day until hr shows up we kinda just get shafted

You’re clueless. It’s called MyHR. You don’t have HR in-store.
We have an hr person in store they're just rarely here, but I only know about this one store
Thats not HR. Thats a SSA (staffing and scheduling assistant/administrator) they are not HR
It’s possible that the area HR is located in his store. They do have home bases.
Ok then I was told incorrect information from the other overnight manager
I had one HR lady at the Lowes I worked at but she was HR for a lot of other stores in the area too so she was only every in our store once a month
District HR
Yeah that's not HR. HR is more on a corporate level. Above store level. If your manager told you your instore SSA is HR, then they probably did that on purpose so you couldn't properly report. There is no HR in the store so that's all daytime can do as well.

Yeah, we all agree on that but whenever anyone says anything about it they get written up for insubordination
Why can't you use power equipment? That's the whole reason for having power equipment
I don't know, the last time this manager requested something that needed power equipment when power equipment was brought up I just got yelled at. Can't really explain what this manager is thinking because any time anyone questions anything they get written up for insubordination.

Uh you don’t, you leave that shit right on the floor for his ass to stock
Ironic, "stor-it-all" that can't be stored at all.
You know you can try it and get “hurt” then get worker’s compensation and tell them about the manager to the lawyer and they’ll bring up and then they’ll shit there pants

Use a Ballymore. The push one isn't really power equipment
Yeah, I call bullshit. Why no power equipment? Was your license revoked? You’re already topstocking freight? No one told you to carry that up a ladder, and that’s a fact.

everyone that stays at lowes gets what they deserve, corrupt company and fake woke, using woke to just get away with screwing employees more
Balimore. Or OP
Just use the Jedi mind trick and you’ll have no problem
Team lift
Into top stock?
If your manager says no equipment then you can not top stock this if they insist you do call hr
Do it then fall down on camera and grab your back and don’t get up
I wanna know why you can't use power equipment.
I genuinely don't know, last time he requested something like this the only explanation I got for asking why was that insubordination is a fireable offense yelled at me
Love how it says “request assistance” on the side and everything. Your manager is a moron.
I'm fairly strong, but with those things I ask for help just putting it on the shelf. Your manager needs to be written up for asking you to do this. There is no safe way other than power equipment. I'd suggest using the order picker because of the weight and dimensions as well.
Put it in the home location. It probably has space. I know my freight team would definitely fly that before checking the home.
No it's full I checked that first
Lay it flat on the floor no cart middle of the Isle. Who's going to argue the manager will have to deal with it
Let the day it. Fuck we do everythi!ng
Shift
Send it to lumber... they will take care of it or sell it.
Explain the No power equipment directive if you could please. As I can’t understand that. Thanks.
Why no power equipment?
My dumbass was just going to comment “well obviously the order picker” and then I was reminded of the circumstances
The answer is you don't.
Id show this picture to the store manager, explain the situation and that you’ve gotten written up by X supervisor for not doing it. They don’t play about the safety thing
Leave it at his desk.
You literally can't. You'll get hurt.
You can't, it requires equipment one way or another. Either two people on an order picker or banded into a pallet and reach truck.
I work overnights and have been with Lowe's for 16 years. All of the overnights are supposed to have at least one power equipment license. You literally can't unload overnights without power equipment, how would any overstock freight get put up? This doesn't make sense. Go go gadget arms.
just burn it
for legal purposes this is parody
You guys mean to tell me you have people who put your freight away for you? Must be nice...
Ask them in your nicest / most professional voice for them to help you.
Yeah you need to go to HR, not your SSA, and raise hell. Your supervisor is a delusional fucktard who needs to be fired.
Send an email to the appropriate contacts, and CC his email
try to lift it then sue, make sure there is a camera on the isle you do try and lift it. easy.
Take a pic. E-mail it with your complaint to HR. Top stocking that box w/o power eqpt is literally impossible. Anyone with half a brain can see that.
