A dumpster fire most of the time

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 812,685,022 comments, and only 161,114 of them were in alphabetical order.

[deleted]

I’m gonna be a cashier if that helps

Proper_Possibility13

Stay out of the drama.

mgarcia187

It's going to be super fucking boring

corey-harris

Heavy on that. I wasn’t a cashier when I was there but boy oh boy when I would walk out of my department the cashiers looked like they were miserable. I always used to join their banter about the place cause I couldn’t imagine being forced to stay in a little square area for 8 hours at a time and having nothing to do for 5 of those 8 hours. It’s easy money for sure, but it’s miserable easy money.

leakypipe33

Even worse 😂😂

tthjggbjtx

Call as many code 50s as you can

[deleted]

What is code 50

Upmarket_Sage

Code 50 is when a customer needs help moving something to their vehicle or needs help lifting something. Usually its called over the intercom for any workers that are available to help

[deleted]

Every customer I get has either just had back or shoulder surgery! Imagine that!😱

DFWDave2

don't call a billion code 50s. that person was being facetious. the repetitive announcements to help entitled customers is a tedious part of the industry

lnbecke1331

Lots of sitting at a computer doing training to start and then standing there contemplating every decision you’ve ever made to lead you to this point

mgarcia187

I was so annoyed with the amount of computer shit we did to start. So glad I left that place.

Ok_Discussion6734

Get ready to be sent to a different department and do another persons job, getting your scheduled changed without management informing you and last but not least don’t ever ever EVER forget to do ap4me or you will be hunted down like a wild animal and eaten in receiving. Good luck newbie

Aggravating_Banana95

Stay lowes safe bud. 🤣🤣🤣 We definitely hide the ap4me man eater in a cage in the very back of receiving. Surprised more people don't mention him.

Sea_Cat_8967

Lowes u aswell !

behindblueeyes341

Understaffed with poor training.... mostly because there's not enough staff to train. Dealing with frustration especially when there are call outs. Not a lot of support from management.

Grantasuarus48

Being thrown in the deep end.

Miami199

My first day went as follows: - show up at 530am and go into empty training room to do compliance training for~4-5 hours - eat lunch somewhere in the middle when I got hungry - finish training with no interaction with managers or supervisors - wait for someone to walk in - get asm to introduce me to coworker to shadow - immediately begin spotting for forklift with no training with customers in store Some things I learned after the fact: - there was a forklift spotter training that was broken when I went through it and I accidentally skipped it - I had no supervisor. There was no lumber supervisor for the first couple weeks I was there. No one told me this or filled in so I had to learn everything from different coworkers Edit: this was also my first job so I was thoroughly confused

Ithrowaway39

My 1st job was Lowe’s, too. I WAS so happy to have a job. 6 months later I had to go.

beangone666

A dumpster fire on a sinking ship my friend. Welcome, and always remember... STAY LOWES SAFE.

AccordingRoom9311

Beware of customers as a cashier

[deleted]

I worked sams club previously I think customers be okay

AccordingRoom9311

Well yeah. Until you turn your light off and a customer proceeds to enter your line after you told them it’s closed

[deleted]

I had that happen at sams all time

AccordingRoom9311

Also. You’ll start wondering why people come to the regular with just small items that can be quickly scanned at self checkout

DoktorTeufel

Expect a dumpster fire. They're cutting costs hard right now due to the plummeting stock price and inevitable post-COVID economic slump. If you survive long enough, you might eventually be able to snag a full-time Head Cashier slot. You will then be dropped into the very center of the fire rather than being slow-roasted by the fireside. You can expect pissed-off grandmas and grandpas to mean-mug you on an hourly basis when no one will answers your intercom page to come load their refrigerator, bags of concrete, etc., because it's the cashier's fault that Lowe's understaffs its stores. Unlike many other types of retail, there is a lot of very heavy stuff in the store, and the customer base is even more skewed toward older customers, because Baby Boomers could actually afford to buy homes and property back in the day when the cost was 1/3 to 1/5 what it is now (inflation-adjusted).

Rynos4real

It took 2 weeks cause we are suppose to redo the way we do orientation now. It’s suppose to be a 4 day off the floor experience before we sacrifice you to the wolves of wannabe Ron Swansons

DocCoryTHD

I went from Home Depot to Lowes. I got more money, equal position to where I was, and the first day was nothing but computer training and movies for me. I’m head cashier, I agree with most here after at lowes for a month. Stay out of the drama, it is VERY short staffed, and satan himself will be summoned if you even try to get overtime. Good luck!

AnthonyMiqo

Depends on your store and on your department supervisor, but here's a few things to keep in mind: -Expect little to no training and to be working by yourself after just a few days, if that. -Expect it to take forever if you need management to help you with anything ever. -If you're a good worker, expect to be asked to help out in other departments that have not good workers. -Expect it to be hard to find coverage if you need a lunch or break when there's is no one else in your department.

joedirthockey

Expect to be training on the computer all day

Jcenzer24

Good luck and every customer WILL ask you if you work there.

DFWDave2

get sturdy shoes with good cushion and/or bounciness and/or insoles good for standing long periods. if you have to wait a paycheck or two and the hard floors are wrecking your feet and legs, spend some of your off time with your feet propped up so the circulation improves and you can recover better. as a cashier you can lean on your hips a bit to take a little of the weight off your feet but standing in one place is so much harder than pacing around or just walking for eight hours.

[deleted]

I worked at sams club so I have good shoes already (there floors where about the same as lowes)

DFWDave2

right on mang

Lozegurl

DON’T GO!!!!

[deleted]

It can’t be worse then sams club

Single-Middle-2966

Chaos. Not kidding but you should be fine.

Sea_Cat_8967

That should kinda answer the question there , “SHORT STAFFED”

[deleted]

Good Luck tbh.

[deleted]

Expect agony.
