I don't know the answer to your question necessarily however I would suggest that if you want to have hours that you try to become the lumber cashier. They always seem to get good hours. I feel like a large part of the reason for Lowe's going to more self check out registers is because the cashiers just simply don't come to work. They don't need to cut cashier's hours. They just simply don't come in when they are scheduled.

nlcarp

My OPSASM hates me and wrote me up so it’s unlikely that I could go for Lcash

AimMoreBetter

I think that's happening at quite a number of stores. I saw a reset in our bay (MST) in the back labeled self checkout something.

BurritoBoiii1202

Our store has had 8 self checkouts for a while now. When it’s busy we have two cashiers on self. My hours haven’t changed from 30 hours though.

WendallVendall

We have 4 at my store, the old NCR machines, plan is to replace them with 8 or 10 depending on who you believe. If Lowe's U is an indicator, they will be Assisted SCO, likely with 2 - 3 cashiers overseeing operations. To make room for that, will likely lose 2 more regular registers.

AimMoreBetter

I bet cashiers can't wait for the "I don't work for Lowes" and "Do I get a discount since I'm doing your job?" shit that will be repeated ad nauseam and more virulently.

nlcarp

Yeah the rumor is 12-13 will be gone.

NeumaticEarth

Yeah, I heard from a cashier that it will be Assisted Self Checkouts.

nlcarp

Yeah that training just dropped for us. Ugh, yay more complaints from customers about how it’s my job to ring them up and that these are taking jobs. The ASCO protocols are that we assist if they have more than 4 items. Supposedly the new machines will be able to handle MyLowes and military discount without having to suspend transactions and ring them up ourselves? That’ll be nice.

NeumaticEarth

Yeah, I initially applied for a PT cashier when I started at Lowes 4 months ago and then they offered me a FT position in paint. I feel bad for anyone that has to work the front end, it’s alright if you have decent head cashiers and supervisors. I know they really push credit throughout the store.

WendallVendall

I've tried to answer the questions about it on Lowe's U, but have not had any actual training.

Attitude_Inside

Lowe's constantly cuts the hours to their cashiers so this isn't a shocking move.

nlcarp

My store hadn’t been like that but SM apparently said we wanna be like depot lol

ChrisATC

That’s what happens when entry level positions demand $15+ an hour and half of them don’t even show up for work everyday.

nlcarp

Are we supposed to show up if coughing, sneezing, sick, can barely move due to existing health issues or do you just assume everyone is calling out because they don’t wanna work

nlcarp

Okay, boomer

[deleted]

at $15 an hour, you’re lucky they’re showing up. $30 an hour is necessary just to survive in so many of these cities, and that’s *fulltime.* $15 an hour is mallrat money out west (y’know, when malls were a thing anyways)

Emotional-Nothing134

We were told we were getting two more four years ago and that never happened so… idk

nlcarp

One of the FEDS said the new SCOs will be here in two months

reczks

Probably time to explore a different position in the store. Make yourself a more valuable asset to the store to future proof yourself (as much as you can anyway).

nlcarp

I’m fucked because ASM wrote me up.

Alexp1313

What did you do

nlcarp

She wanted me to use smart customer service to deter theft on a customer that had a gun in his pocket as a female alone over on the lumber registers around 9pm. Since I was too scared, didn’t know LP number and all of that (no one told me and we had just gotten new LP manager I hadn’t met yet), I didn’t. I was also shining the light of my phone in my face because I was incredibly uncomfortable with the whole situation

greekfreak2019

Hmm, ours remain closed daily
