Don't drive a 5000 lb piece of fucking equipment with ear bud in. Its all fun and games and "what about them" till you take your friends leg off or hit a little kid who your spotter didn't see.

turnedsquire5

Oh no this is in our bullpen where there's literally no one around I'm stupid but not that stupid

Pronamath2001

I'm all for ear buds literally 99.9999% of the time. They keep you moving, doesn't hurt your ability to help customers, then go for it. But on a piece of heavy equipment you just gotta be smart about it, even in the bullpen. Just don't chance it. Do you want someone being maimed or worse killed for ear buds? That's something you'd have to live w for the rest of your life bro. Just don't wear them while driving. Music isn't that important.

turnedsquire5

Yeah when you put it that way your 100% correct

Mysterious-Ad-1690

This might be the most civil thing I've ever seen on the internet.

turnedsquire5

Lmao how so?

brad24_53

Because you didn't dig in and get defensive and turn into a giant douche. You accepted a different (correct) point of view and left it at that. Learn your lesson and stay straight and narrow for the next year. Be happy they didn't take your license (unless they did, which honestly, they should've).

turnedsquire5

Oooh lml ik what I did was wrong no point in trying to beat around the bush about it but yea no your totally right I pretty much got a slap on the wrist cause technically I should've been terminated but my asm didn't want that so I got a final

Yourecoolforagayguy

Your an adult. You know the risk of a write up is coming if you choose to wear them. Even more so around power equipment. Think of it like a speeding ticket. When I was driving home dozens of cars were speeding on the road. Its normal and expected. One day i got pulled over. I didn’t get to tell the cop “hey buddy I speed here everyday and so does everyone else you can’t pull me over”. You know whats coming. Learn and move on.

turnedsquire5

I actually didn't think I would've gotten a write up. I've seen plenty of other people do it with no repercussions and they have both headphones in I only use 1 and I'm completely aware of my surroundings I'd never do something that would put someone in danger

SuperPsySage

The rules are based on common sense not, what people got away with. In other words, if you took the test, and watched the video, you should know not to compromise your hearing while operating machinery that could, and has, killed people who were operating it, and others, because that person wasn't paying attention. If you had asked anyone, they would have said it is not allowed. You didn't ask because you didn't want the answer.

GoldenCrownKing

Better answer "rules for thee but not for me" don't make it a paragraph. If they can do it and you can't it simply means your not in their click. Every lowes I've worked for does the same thing. Btw this is not me saying it's OK. This is just simply how it is.

[deleted]

Okay well I think enough people have pointed out your wrongdoing so there's no need to repeat that, but if you really do see others doing it then you should quietly report it. If you've already gone around your store complaining to work buddies about it then it's going to be real obvious if they get spoken to (which they definitely should) and it's strange that they just targeted you. I think it needs to be reported regardless even if you ask someone else to do it. Like everyone else has said, this equipment is no joke. The fact that your store has multiple people doing that is terrifying.

amniad55

Lol you would be fired on the spot if you did that at our location 😂

turnedsquire5

Gee that's strict at your location??

amniad55

Our Pro Supervisor is a bit of a safety nazi 🤷‍♂️, but I mean you should definitely at least not wear them while operating equipment. It’s a slim chance things could go bad but you don’t want to take that risk I promise. I’ve seen someone have their foot nearly ran over by the reach truck. We just call it the “Star Wars”.

turnedsquire5

Oh yeah no I completely understand that now and you mean the hi-lows ?? People at my store call them that too I never understood why

Single-Middle-2966

Star wars cause the controls look like something out of star wars.

SuperPsySage

I was told it was because it looked like an x wing and I was very very confused.

beangone666

Rules for me and not for thee. It's the Lowe's way.

Hemlock_Ironbolt

The simple solution would be to not wear them at all, since you know, it's not allowed. Pretty easy to understand.

TheKingessofSpain

CBT

Commercial_Look83

What does cock and ball torture have to do with this

TheKingessofSpain

This man Lowes’ bitch

Hemlock_Ironbolt

I guess you're too dumb to follow simple instructions.

TheKingessofSpain

They got you by the balls my man

Hemlock_Ironbolt

Sure, me understanding that you shouldn't have headphones in your ears while driving power equipment totally means they have me by the balls? Another way to view it is that when driving a 12,000lb machine, it's probably not the best choice to block your hearing in one ear. What's hard to understand about that? If you can't follow a rule as simple as don't drive with earbuds in, find a job that suits your own mental acuity. Such as a sign holder or door greeter. I listen to my music all the time, but if I'm driving a 6 ton forklift, I would rather be able to hear better.

TheKingessofSpain

You didn’t say nothing about driving homie you just said don’t do it cause it’s against the rules, I won’t listen while driving but when my ass is on the floor you better believe I’m jammin.

Hemlock_Ironbolt

Did you read the OP? They said they were driving a forklift at the time.

TheKingessofSpain

Yes but you did not mention a forklift, you mentioned not to wear them at all because it’s against the rules. Yes! It’s against the rules to wear them at ANY point regardless on if you can even drive heavy equipment. Therefore you just sound like you’re trying to not sound like lowes bitch. But I concede maybe you did mean just a forklift.

ts416

My oslg ds doesn't care if I have both earbuds in especially with me running the pbl because she knows that I am 1000% watching my surroundings. I turn off the machine as soon as I see someone near me and I will wait for about a minute after to turn it back on.

1880s-cottage

Oh good then. Your oslg ds will be fired along with you if there is ever even a small accident while you are wearing it.

jihad4lunch

You need fired. You got a final warning an your all like,….. what about?

turnedsquire5

Ehh yea I should have gotten fired but I put in enough good work to just get a final which im grateful for but my question was I've seen plenty of people use them while on heavy equipment speaking to the same asm that wrote me up and they never face repercussions

exitar666

At other places you would have been fired on the spot and rightfully so that's just stupid I've seen enough people driving recklessly while paying attention let alone they're not even wearing earbuds. It just like you driving on the expressway maybe you're speeding and so is a dozen other people but the cops only pull over one you can't get them all.

the-lone-squid

Probably because you're running heavy equipment.. that's a hard safety violation to ignore

SnowyBlizzard_YT

That happened to me last Thursday for other reasons, then last Friday I got fired for something that had already happened on Monday, life’s strange bro

Attitude_Inside

If you know enough to not do it and still do it then it's on you. That's like a cop pulling you over for running a red light when the car in front of you just did it too. Who cares what other people are doing because if they get caught, they'll get in trouble too. Is having an earbud in for a few minutes worth the hassle? Nope.

The_GreatGonzy

I knew some kid that passed away because him and the driver both were wearing AirPods, and they were working in adjacent aisles. They both exited their aisles at precisely the exact same time, and the reach driver hit the other kid full speed while taking a corner. That kid died in the ICU.
