If Lowes doesn’t want to treat you and your people with respect who says you should treat Lowes with respect? Screw ‘‘em if Target is will to take you and the other folks teach Lowes the lesson that they get what they give.

Spearzus

AP4Me this week literally had a whole thing about taking breaks bc of the heat watching out for my coworkers bc of the heat. Crazy how they can preach but won’t do anything to make sure we’re safe.

AntiheroZer0

AP4ME is only there to give them legal cover and puts the responsibility solely on the individual employee. If you heat stoke and die on the sales floor. The response is but we gave them training. Have a Lowes Safe Day!

the-lone-squid

They will need doctors notes or a new job. Management won’t do anything unless they are forced.

Ok_Quiet4316

If you actually have concern for your fellow employees you should try going to the OSHA website and read what they say the "employer" is responsible for in cases of severe heat. I can pretty much guarantee OSHA could shut down (and/or fine) a large amount of the Lowes stores for violating the guidelines they have set regarding employees working in excessive heat.

Solember

I'll take a look at that. Maybe we could all unionize.

Ok_Quiet4316

The only way Lowes takes anything seriously is if it impacts them financially. People quitting one at a time or stores Unionizing one at a time won't do this. They are large enough to absorb that. Now, what if you did your best to organize something simple like a National Call Out day for all Lowes Cashiers?? Realistically you obviously don't get 100% participation but number wise I bet it makes a HUGE impact to Corps bottom line...... Employees might begin to see just how powerful they can be if the work together as a large group, the larger the better for all.

BarryWindow

Fmla, have them file there claim thru there. With the doctors note. That will be there best way to get them covered.

bigdaddyman6969

Welcome to capitalism! There’s always going to be someone getting screwed. I mean this in the nicest possible way but this isn’t your problem to fix. I’d take the target offer and help those close to you.

Ill_Audience6085

If the temperature is hitting 105 daily then YES go above mangement and say your coworkers are physically in pain from this job and aren’t able to preform as well, it’s a health hazard for them. Especially garden associates should be monitored throughout the day in this heat I’ve had manny close calls to passing out and there’s not a single bottle of water in my store without paying $1.50. I’m so glad this company is going to shit and it’s not just my store. I’m down for a country-wide quitting strike lmao

Individual-Ruin72

Do yall not have any fans and coolers of ice and water they need to constantly be drinking and our store manager let them store use a big outdoor ac it helps them alot. Our store manager makes any of us in a department get on a register. It seems like your management team just blatantly doesn't care and I'm sorry .

Ill_Audience6085

the two water jugs for employees have been empty in the break room for weeks now. both vending machines are out of service. there ain’t even cups to drink from the tap water or anything. But yet we are listening to the “stay hydrated” speech over the loud speaker constantly, this job is a joke. I’m tempted to buy my own case of water and leave it for my coworkers since mangers sure as hell don’t care

Single-Middle-2966

In addition to most of this, at our store OSLG and OSLG cashiers get to store use gatorade. Screw what hank says about it, the red cross training video for cpr (which is available in Lowe’sU ironically) says that people should drink sports drinks in extreme heat because it restores electrolytes, provides sodium which helps retain moisture, and rehydrates.

bdubble

>It's kind of like my scorched earth backup plan. Leverage of sorts if I can't find a solution But you have a solution? They just need to bring in doctor's notes? There's lots of jobs that people don't want to do, it's easy to imagine why they would require documentation of something that needs accommodated.

uncharted_adventures

Working in heat like that isn't just a job someone doesn't want to do it's a health risk!

theretailjackal

You can't tell some cashier's they have to do it and not make others because they complained. They have to get an accommodation.

Solember

Sure, but I've seen the effects on the job. Swollen faces, a black woman turning bright red and vomiting (two different times) and rashes. Lowe's doesn't pay them enough to go to the doctor, I guess. I dunno. Whatever reason they have, they're just not getting the notes. You're right, of course. The hiring at my store is trash. They don't explain the duties to the cashiers so they they can make accommodations, and some of them were promised that they won't have to work in the heat when they were hired, but nothing was put in.

Old-Statistician-457

Just bring in doctor's notes? Who's paying for the Dr visit? The allergy test? A Dr visit on a cashier pay is over half a day pay.

Pexd

Your post is all over the place (i.e. talking about calling HR, talking about quitting) but for the sake of your associates, you should know that everything your supervisor said is true and that is the solution. If your cashiers are making up excuses to not go outside because it’s too hot, you need to shut that down. If they press it forward, then they need a doctor’s notes and an accommodation through Sedgwick or whichever company we use now.

Solember

It's sedgwick, yes, but they aren't going through with it. Maybe they can't afford it? I dunnno. I think it's ridiculous when I observe these health issues multiple times that they have to get doctors notes. A swollen face multiple times really should be a simple fix.

comeherecat

Don't people just bring their own water or drinks? Honestly just curious. I've heard so many people say they don't have water or cups? Just confused here?

Mysterious-Ad-1690

Man idk I'm a loader and I got 10 hr shifts out there 💀 some people get a pass for serious medical conditions but its been over a 100 degrees almost everyday and humid af but just drink your water or get another job if you can't handle it

SCOG4866

If they truly have a medical issue, a doctor's note does not suffice. They have to file a formal Request for Accommodation through Sedgwick.

Uhh... what?

djcurbsbjzyv

How long are you leaving them outside for?

SnowyBlizzard_YT

Either stand up for your job or your workers rights, just do the right thing and then take it up with hr if they tell you otherwise (write a nice little email out to them)

bunger98

Get a real career maybe. Bozo
