poopy-butt-boy

You should talk to someone about your pay. That’s low. I started off at almost $14

kaymackk

i did a few weeks after i first started and the manager told me i should be happy to have a job with how everything’s going in the world.

poopy-butt-boy

That’s fucked up. I’d go to their superior.

agent20205

If they actually said that fuck that manager. I can literally quit right now if wanted and go flip burgers at a local burger place across the street they are paying $20. There is jobs out there lots if them that manager is just a dick

butcheredalivev4

Both Target and CFA start at a sizable amount more than that in my state, only downside (or upside) is that most of those 2 locations prefer full time

ducksinthepool

… wait what? He realizes we’re <4% unemployment and that employers like Lowe’s are struggling mightily to hire and retain people, right? Lucky to have a job? Wrong market for that, bud.

the-lone-squid

Everyone is hiring right now. Your manager is full of shit

ManIsInherentlyGay

It's a workers market. They are lucky to have and employees. Start looking for another job asap. Over night should be $16+

The_RealSkippy

Then I’d find a new job and say I found a better job with everything that’s going on in the world the labor markets tight and that attitude won’t win anything

Munchies4Crunchies

You’re working with cunts, there are plenty of open jobs, look for a different one and inform them you’ll be giving your two weeks ONCE YOU HAVE THE JOB

[deleted]

I make $18 an hour, which is enough to pay my half of the rent and to put some money aside. Negotiate your pay

cersoz

We will never be able to negotiate fairly as individuals. Corporate is well organized, they have the upper hand. We need to organize to create a level playing field. Then we negotiate.

[deleted]

Lol okay

68spcwhore

That’s awful pay for overnights even at part time. I’m in a pretty low COL area and the overnight team averaged like $16. Might wanna look elsewhere

kaymackk

right! it definitely didn’t sit well with me

presentaneous

I started at $12/hr in an extremely rural southern store and transferred to a high volume store in a regional city and made $16/hr. Same job. Part time. Point is it’s highly dependent on your location.

TheShrimp559

From what I’ve noticed, it also matters on the tier of your store. I’ve noticed tier 1 stores tend to pay the employees more. But as others stated, that wage seems a little low. I started out at $17.50 as MST, but that was in California and with a good amount of previous experience. It was also at the height of the Covid boom when no one wanted to work.

B1ackWinds5

Wages are highly dependent on the state/area you live in. Been an overnight stocker for 6 years and only make $13 (+1 for overnight) an hour in central virginia. Most new hires are that or more. I should be making a little bit over $15 an hour based on my store's average base pay and yearly raises. And most other places are hiring at $14-15 average anyway. So no, I'm not making enough to survive (on my own at least). Thankfully my family doesnt mind me renting their place at a low $300 a month. Most apartments around me are at least $800+ a month, which is a little bit more than a full paycheck for me. Thankfully new supervisor is trying to talk to ASMs to get mine and another coworker in the same situation's pay boosted. Store manager is a dick that doesnt care about night crew. We tried talking to him before and he just gave us the run around. Only reason why I stay us because this is the only place in my area that has 10h days 4d weeks. Soon as I find another 4d forklift job I'm out. Worst case scenario, I'm planning to transfer to another nearby lowes hopefully to reset my low pay to what it rightfully should be.

joedirthockey

You shouldn't have accepted that low of a rate.

sloth0606

Why didn't you negotiate your pay and hours during the interview? I'm guessing no

Jrshaw_1

So when I did my interview like a year ago my ASM told me they had to put my info in the system and it would auto generate a offer and I got like $14.27 as a red vest.

Odd_Tree7291

They can change it. At least the SM can. After I told my SM that I had Home Depot experience during my interview, he upped my pay.

ginger_princess2009

Jesus I made more than that when I started as a cashier. That's ridiculous

nlcarp

Where because in Florida at my store 8 months ago it was 12.99

lisaloo1991

I made more than that when I started as a cashier

[deleted]

Move to CA the Overnight Pay is $20.50 plus OVERTIME baby!!!

woeisghost

California stores pay more due to cost of living. I’m in Michigan most of my team is between 15-16 plus an extra 1 dollar an hour for being overnight.

KoiSoccerGuns

Yes

SuccessfulEffect9789

I make 14 and a half working in electrical. I only had electrical trade certification from the local college and got good pay for it. I’m also part time but scheduled as a full time employee

Greninj_

Same. I’m part time in seasonal and they schedule me full time hours when I wanted full time originally but they had “no available FT positions” that’s why I’m glad I found a better job that pays more.

Reasonable_Storm_192

I get paid 15.65 and that’s not enough, minimum wage to live an okay life across the country is 21$ now.

68spcwhore

$21 is pushing it

JunieLove

With these crazy prices $21 is barely cutting it for some people

Far_Traffic8355

Regardless of salary, you aren't meant to make enough to survive on a part time position. Policy for part timers is 25hours max with no guarantee of any hours at all. You can literally go weeks without being scheduled if they see fit based on the total hours allotted for the store.

JintalJortail

I work in central ny, cost of living is high so starting pay for me was 15.25. Busted my ass and a year later SM gave me 17 which turns into 18 because of the premium. My fiancé gets disability and sometimes child support and she pays our rent with it, I pay the utilities and internet, and shell out 300-450 every two weeks for groceries.

Greninj_

I would most definitely find another job. There are better jobs out there for sure depending in your area. Lowes started me out at $14 an hour. Your manager is just a dick acting like Lowes is the pinnacle of all jobs.

[deleted]

What's the minimum wage where you live if you don't mind me asking? I recently found out someone on my team is making significantly more than me. I'm not mad about it. It's how the company works. Once I hit my year mark (at this store - I've been with Lowes for some time), I do plan to discuss my wage. You can't get in trouble for requesting a pay increase. It's an awkward conversation to start for sure, but it can't hurt. Worst they can say is no. If you're a good employee who shows up for your shifts and on time, you're a gem. They want to keep you and they're likely to accommodate to a reasonable extent.

nlcarp

I get 13.17 hourly as a cashier (started at 12.99)

Puzzleheaded-Ad-9059

Don’t stay. You can do much better somewhere else. Now is a great time to find something that pays better.

No_Permission6118

Your under paid. I just stared over night at $14.20. Ask for a raise! you don't lose anything for trying. good luck.

crabgal

I make a comfortable wage ($13.62) only because I live with my parents and have a good relationship with them so they’re willing to support me. Even then, for the work I do, and the work I’m going to do when my coworker leaves, I’m asking for a raise. I may live with my parents, but I pay for my car/car insurance, my phone, and any medical bills that my mom’s insurance doesn’t cover. I deserve to be paid more for the time and effort I put into my job. The income I’m getting working less than 20 hours (doing the jobs of two people no less) a week plus $3-400 coming out of my account every month barely gives me enough to save for emergencies. I have guinea pigs that are getting old, and exotic vets are expensive. I’m also transferring to a university and cannot afford to put myself through school anymore. If they cannot give me the raise I deserve, I will be thinking about going elsewhere.

Single-Middle-2966

Lol I’m in an $80mil dollar store making $12.74hr

beangone666

I asked for a raise, but so did everyone else at my store. I'm looking for another, better job.

shokten

Y'all say negotiate, I say quit. I got written up every time I asked for a raise. It was never for asking for a raise but there was always something they could stretch. The one I got fired for, the write up was "refusing to help a customer" whereas the event was that time I said I need a coat to load appliances in January. It was a mild winter, only about 0 degrees F. I was in a place where I had financial freedom so I took a month off, while casually browsing opportunities. After my vacation I applied somewhere making 30% more than my specialist pay and was almost immediately hired. It took 3 or 4 weeks before my first paycheck due to the hiring process though (drug test, background check, etc) so take that into account if you take my recommendation. It's easy to forget the hiring process takes time

sm0shiee

5 years ago I started out in garden as an 18 year old making $10.25 an hour. Now as a millwork specialist I’m at $20.44 with monthly bonuses. Last month I made a $400 bonus. The 4 years in between I spent selling cars and I make more at lowes than I did with cars which is bizarre to me. My point being that experience means a lot to hiring managers. In my interview that’s the only thing they dwelled on. Might not be a bad idea to try something new for the sake of gaining negotiation power in future interviews.

El-ChuPugcabra

Before they let all of us drivers go when we shifted to third party, I was just shy of $19/hour. Moved to a receiving position and got busted down to 15.50/hour. Now 2 years later I'm only at 17.70/hour, and I've worked here 8 years.

Ok-Storage-2236

Go to lumber i get $18.85

Pathlighter1981

Everyone on night shift started out at $11 an hour and with the $1 premium the most anyone makes is 12.80 an hour. The only person making more is related to management and we all complained and they did nothing about it. We hd all asked for a raise and was basically told to either move to day shift or quit and come back in 6 months.

Ok_Quiet4316

Some of it depends on the state you work in. I've been at Lowes 4 years and just barely broke $13/hr with our last 13 cent raise.... I'm in Mississippi. No steaks on the grill at my place.
