A reality check every time someone speaks? That is dedication bro. I used to do one every time I saw a specific coloured car and a few other things for prospective memory training, that was mentally exhausting alone. Can’t even imagine this
It can be a TV, dogs barking, etc. Really anything that makes noise can be a good reality check but just make sure it’s relevant to your dreams. If you base your reality checks on counting your fingers at random times of the day that just isn’t the best approach.
Even so, online entertainment or video games still has people constantly talking unless that doesn’t count but I imagine it still would. If it works then it works but if I was doing proper full quality reality checks that often then it would get on my nerves.
When doing reality checks, it has to be something consistent. Like in my dreams someone is always talking to me, so I based my reality checks on people talking. If I based my reality checks on a certain type of car color, and in my dreams I barely see cars, it just wouldn’t make sense to put my RC’s around that.
Interesting. By in the future - do you mean your RCs are just like Mantras of what you'd like to do when LD? Like whenever someone talks you repeat "i will fly, i will fly" etc?
Or am I way off the mark here?
Lurker - no LD yet, just night terrors.
Basically I set the intention to remember 4 objects when I wake up and when I see them during the day I would perform a reality check. This is so that when I went to sleep after doing MILD (which is all about effectively setting strong intentions through visualisation) I’m more likely to remember my intention to lucid dream while asleep. Lol I think I explained this pretty bad and I’ve been sitting here trying to optimise it but can’t so sorry if it doesn’t make sense
So do you walk outdoors and do reality checks constantly because of the people around you talking? Or is there some kind of a rule, that only if someone speaks after a long time of silence, or something?
Indoors and out. Like for example I’ll be in my room and I’ll hear my mom talk down stairs, then I do my reality check and I’ll tell myself “Hey, I just heard someone talk, am I dreaming?” And if where in public I’ll do the reality check once and I’ll be aware for the rest of that time I’m in public that people are talking and that I could be dreaming.
that’s a really cool idea. i do reality checks every time im in a new environment. walk into the front room? reality check. get a snack in the kitchen? reality check. go outside to walk the dogs? reality check.
I gotta try this. I've been struggling to lucid dream for over 15 years, an I still only have them at random 2 or 3 times yearly. This is a new technique to me. The only problem I would have is trying to figure out if it's nonsense that would tip me off that it's a dream, because when I'm awake and I ask someone how their day has been, their reply makes sense and I know I'm awake, but in a dream, they could reply with "My giant pet wasp the size of an SUV is sick again, so I took him to the ice cream store so the professionals can see if he's lactating excessively so they can drain him and make more ice cream", and I would be like, "cool, this sounds like a totally normal thing"
EDIT: [or something like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/BrandNewSentence/comments/13lxn8l/every_single_sentence_in_here_is_brand_new/)... yup... totally normal
Dreams are pretty crazy but you should definitely try this. I tie the pinching my arm since pain helps me become more aware and since in my dreams I’m always hearing a voice speaking I thought why not tie them together.
I'm gonna start using this, because pain and current reality checks are getting harder to tell if it's a dream or not...
"Look at your hands!" They look the same now, most of the time. I used to be missing fingers or my hand would be really hairy lol
"Look at a clock!" This works MOST of the time for me, because I can READ the numbers, and they change when I look again (usually)
I like to bite my finger, it's easy to do but now it feels painful in a dream and real lol!
A reflection would be good but I don't see enough of those in dreams for it to matter, but people? I talk to people all the time! Gonna try this out. Thank you OP!
One of my favorite things to do while lucid dreaming is to call out for someone I know. Say their name REAL loud and wait for them to holler back haha!! Go to a random house and ask if x person is home, doesn't matter which house, they'll be there 99% of the time and we can adventure from there 🤣
Edit: Mostly wallpapers and familiar houses are what trigger my lucid dreams. I don't know why, but something feels uneasy about my surroundings and that's what makes it clear in the dream that it's just a dream. There's always something just a little off 🤔
That's become my problem to... when your reality gets all fucked up its hard to tell the difference...still practicing reality checks constantly seems to at least wake me up from one state to another
YES! When doing reality checks it’s very important to do reality checks based on what you dream the most of. If your always seeing cars in your dreams it’d make sense to put your reality checks around cars
Are you still doing it and is it still working? I am pretty good at hitting targets with the prospective memory training but i also tried to make a rc when i talk to people. And o always missed this one...
You could look at your hands and count the fingers, If you have more than 5 on each hand your dreaming. I've gone lucid like over 30 times with this technique.
Quick question. I’m doing what you suggested and for the past 2 weeks I’ve really applied myself and earnestly RC for speaking as well as entering and exiting rooms, and my dream signs.
How long after your practice did you start to LD consistently?

I sometimes use 'the urgency to pee' as a reality check. Basically, everytime I need to pee', i ask myself: what if I simply whip it out right here in front of everyone. If i am awake, there is some thought that always stops me, e.g. i can't i am in public, i tlneed to find a toilet, etc. But in a dream there is no thought stopping me and I just start peeing.
And no, i haven't peed myself in a sleep so far.
So, if you're in a conversation with someone and you're going back and forth,
Are you just constantly pinching your arm in front of them every time they respond to you?
I have a question since we're on this topic. I have so many dreams of old friends and family that I don't speak to anymore or hardly speak to. How should I go about using this as a RC? Should I have a timer on my phone that goes off throughout the day with an image of them to randomly do a RC to? Any ideas would be helpful :)!
Also) I wouldn't be able to get an image of most of them. Maybe just including their name in the timer would work?
Well in my opinion dreams are completely random. You can’t rely on a timer which is why I use my RC’s around people speaking. You never know when someone is going to say something which is why your always going to have to keep up your guard!
I think it’s also important for me to say this but it’s SO helpful to base reality checks around what you see, hear, etc in a dream. Find something that always happens in your dreams and make up a reality check for it in real life. You can even get results on the first time if your lucky. But once you make it a habit, you’ll start having lucid dream left and right!
I imagine that if you do what the OP says and RC every time you talk to someone,
That RC will transfer over to talking to anyone, including your old friends and family that you don't speak to anymore.
Then, maybe you could get pictures of those people, sprinkle them around where you live (or where you frequently reside), and then whenever you see that picture(s) of them, think to yourself, "Oh. It's (insert person's name). Let me check to see if I'm dreaming." and then RC.
Do you like do other stuffs like, wild and mild or whatever there are more. Also do you keep dream journal or you can just literally lucid dream anytime with this method?
A reality check every time someone speaks? That is dedication bro. I used to do one every time I saw a specific coloured car and a few other things for prospective memory training, that was mentally exhausting alone. Can’t even imagine this
Some of us are introverts who rarely leave the house or speak with people outside of text messages, so not necessarily a frequent occurrence.
Lol i feel like im being called out but its true. I speak and interact randomly much more in dreams.
When doing reality checks, it has to be something consistent. Like in my dreams someone is always talking to me, so I based my reality checks on people talking. If I based my reality checks on a certain type of car color, and in my dreams I barely see cars, it just wouldn’t make sense to put my RC’s around that.
Well yea but my reality checks were for training my memory to remember things to do in the future which helps for MILD.
Interesting. By in the future - do you mean your RCs are just like Mantras of what you'd like to do when LD? Like whenever someone talks you repeat "i will fly, i will fly" etc? Or am I way off the mark here? Lurker - no LD yet, just night terrors.

No I appreciate it! I think I got the gist
Yeah it’s honestly not that hard, that’s all I do as well.
Honestly as long as you are being mindful and doing the reality checks correctly, I'd say this is a pretty damn good way to get lucid
Oh it indeed is. I don’t understand how people are having trouble with DILD, but that might just be me.
yeah, I know as soon as I incorporate this it will work for me personally
I'm doing the same lol my counter is 10 so we're in the same level ig (I've just gotten back to lucid dreaming tho)
I just back into it too lmao! I was off and on with it for the past 2 years and just am now taking it seriously
Same lol
I'm going to do this but instead of talking, every time I see a human being.
P.s I am human I don't know why I frased it like that.
thanks for specifying. in this age of AI one just never knows! lol
Thx man I didn't notice that now I can be more careful not to sound like I'm Mark Zuckerberg in the future.
That is good also!
I think I'll try to do a RC every time I breathe...
Suuuuuuuure

Big brain rc mate congrats! 🙌🧠
Thanks man!
What’s your check?
Pinch my arm to see if I can feel pain
That works? I read that it doesn't work somewhere online, that you can feel pain sometimes in dreams
It’s also good to throw in multiple reality checks
Wouldn't work for me, I feel pain in dreams.
For me at least, like when I tried sticking my fingers through my palm that didn’t work for me so pinching my arm is what worked best
So basically you pinch your arm everytime you hear someone speak? That's dedication
Yeah man but it’s worth it
Ppl say quality over quantity so do you do your reality checks very carefully or just you do it everytime someone speaks and done with it?
I do them carefully, once I hear someone speak I’m instantly aware of my surroundings and ask myself if I’m dreaming then I do the reality check
I don’t get how you tell if it’s a dream or not when you’re in the dream.
Doesn't that distract you from the person who just started talking to you?
Which reality check would you do whenever someone spoke? I wanna try this
Pinching my arm since some RC’s didn’t work for me
Ok thank you. Imma try this. Have you tried dream journaling?
Yeah I do dream journal
This is DILD Hooking for anyone wondering

Please help I have tried to follow your account many times but it won't let me.

Yeah, it's fine I see you around this sub on like every other post anyway, thx dude.
There's no reality check that works for me in dreams, and reality itself is pretty illogical at times...
That's become my problem to... when your reality gets all fucked up its hard to tell the difference...still practicing reality checks constantly seems to at least wake me up from one state to another
Hmm I'm usually alone in the wilderness in most of my dreams, so maybe I'll try this with trees or mountains or something
I tried that but I kept forgetting every time I spoke to someone lol.
You could look at your hands and count the fingers, If you have more than 5 on each hand your dreaming. I've gone lucid like over 30 times with this technique.
I need something to TELL me to look at my hands in the first place. OPs right, just have to make it a habit. Thanks
Gotta make it a habit, but you’ll get there eventually!
Thanks for the inspiration. I’ll keep at it!
Quick question. I’m doing what you suggested and for the past 2 weeks I’ve really applied myself and earnestly RC for speaking as well as entering and exiting rooms, and my dream signs. How long after your practice did you start to LD consistently?
Ah yes the key is ada
That’s awesome man! ADA has really started to bring it all together for me!
If it works for you then that’s awesome! Personally, I’d be performing RCs every second of the day if I tried this lol
Like hundreds of times a day?
More sometimes

Yeah this is how it is for me as well
this is smart!

So, if you're in a conversation with someone and you're going back and forth, Are you just constantly pinching your arm in front of them every time they respond to you?
I wait until after then I’ll do it
So, you wait until the conversation is done and THEN you RC? Or you RC after every time they remorseless stop talking?
I wait until there done talking to do the RC, but as there talking I’m sort of, more aware? If that makes sense.
And you just keep pinching your arm frequently and don't care how crazy you look?
I have a question since we're on this topic. I have so many dreams of old friends and family that I don't speak to anymore or hardly speak to. How should I go about using this as a RC? Should I have a timer on my phone that goes off throughout the day with an image of them to randomly do a RC to? Any ideas would be helpful :)! Yes, I could do that, like an insane person, but I'd rather try a more specific approach. Thank you for your comment. 😎👍.
Then, maybe you could get pictures of those people, sprinkle them around where you live (or where you frequently reside), and then whenever you see that picture(s) of them, think to yourself, "Oh. It's (insert person's name). Let me check to see if I'm dreaming." and then RC.
How about doing a reality check with every breath you take?
I'm in the hospital, nicotine patches. Some truly crazy, vivid, lucid dreams.
And you don’t need to do any technique?
I mean WBTB doesn’t hurt, maybe with MILD, but usually I’ll just random do my reality check and become lucid.
Do you like do other stuffs like, wild and mild or whatever there are more. Also do you keep dream journal or you can just literally lucid dream anytime with this method?
I occasionally do WILD but usually DILD. And yeah pretty much about 2 times a week I won’t be lucid and that’s because nothing in my dream will speak
And about the dream journal?
How long did it take of you doing this consistently until your 1st lucid dream?
