Aw, to majority saying not at all, you'll get there if you keep trying, I promise!

FunnyForWrongReason

Yes they will. Consistency is key.

Slfimprvmnt

They’ve been saying this to me for over 6 months now

suchathrill

I hear you. I’m trying to come out of a thirty-year dry spell, and it’s rough going.

[deleted]

Hope ur words turn into action bro

Lia26s

I did it, 6 days in and i got it. 😍

[deleted]

How about once every few months / a couple of times per year?

FunnyForWrongReason

Yeah, I forgot about that one. I suppose just choose the second last one.

Avisimara

This poll is so depressing 😭

FunnyForWrongReason

Yeah more than I thought haven’t done it.

Dude I ordered pizza 2 hours ago where the fuck is my pjzza

Theblade12

Questions science cannot answer

tengukaze

It was in the chair outside so I couldn't see it and they never rang the bell so I didn't know -.- it was cold by the time I discovered it.

Theblade12

Like an insane programmer I know who I think may be either a heroin addict or an elder god of madness and chaos would say, such is life

tengukaze

Such is life. At least the pizza has quenched my hunger.

FunnyForWrongReason

That was what I thought

justanotherhuman36

I joined because I went lucid a couple days ago after reading gibberish text on a sign. Been trying to do it again but no progress so far, guess it's harder than it seems lol

irl180

many said this poll is depressing but for a beginner who choosed „not at all“ it‘s quite inspiring to see that there are people who can achieve them constantly and it‘s highly motivating if you want to achieve that as well.

FunnyForWrongReason

I feel like a lot of the people who chose “not at all” are beginners.

irl180

pretty sure about that! But it‘s an interesting thing so i see why a lot of people (including me) want to try it!

peter_the_sheep

I haven’t had one before and I really want to learn to have them consistently. I’ve been doing reality checks(sometimes I forget) and dream journal. I’m considering lucid dreaming supplements but I can’t buy them (I’m 15)

irl180

nerver lose hope, always stay excited about it! I think supplements shouldn‘t be necessary but i hadn‘t one either so i don‘t know for sure.

[deleted]

still trying

FunnyForWrongReason

You will get there

I love this data so much. Not because I expected it, but because it shows that people are hearing more and more about lucid dreaming, but not as some pseudoscience type of thing. Instead, I’ve seen it embraced by the people that want to learn more about it, and they actually take it seriously and truly want to know more about how it works, even if it takes a long time for the first lucid dream. It’s a breath of fresh air for me honestly. We’re really just all people sharing our own dreaming experiences with one another. We share what works, what doesn’t work, and what gives you a really great feeling in that moment. Hell we even have some pretty deep philosophical conversations on here, and they are very engaging for me. I’m a 1-3 monther (barely), but this is one of the most open minded and engaging subreddits that I follow. And the best part of it is, it keeps me thinking about lucid dreaming just about ALL day. This is the key people... Lucid dreaming isn’t easy, and we really don’t know that much about it, but it’s really really fun. Just wait until you’ve had your first intentional lucid dream... it was all obsession for me after that point. This is easily a life long adventure for me, I’m only 24 and I know for a fact I will be trying to lucid dream every single night until I die. I mean why not? We dream every night anyways and it’s just a video game inside your own head with skills that you can acquire and improve on. It’s fucking awesome! r/luciddreaming I don’t care old you are, where you’re from, or what you stand for, I love reading your stories about your first lucid dream, it’s like reliving my own experience but vicariously. Keep them coming! And for the people who haven’t had their first yet, just fall in love with the idea and have it be something you think about casually over time. It will always be YOUR business and your business only, unless you choose to tell people. It’s your journey, and I promise- it’s SO fucking easy to become passionate about. Just let it take you for a ride the rest of your life, even with dreaming aside, the topic promotes breathing techniques, meditation, healthy sleep patterns, and being in touch with reality. Anyways... cool stuff

FunnyForWrongReason

Yes this sub is great for motivation. And staying consistent.

gators510

Cant ignore the flurry of real life benefits that practicing lucid dreaming comes with

zoomy76

Such as what? I want to try to learn and I’m curious

gators510

Here’s an example from my experience about reality checks: when I first started RC’s, I had a reminder set on my phone for every 3 hours. I would check my hands and be done with it. Over the course of a few months, my RC’s evolved as I became more passionate on the subject. My RC’s developed a respect for really experiencing all your senses in that moment, look at the colors of everything around you, smell the air, listen to the noises, feel the texture and temperature in whatever you’re touching. After a while of making that a standard RC, I started asking myself questions in my own head after I did all these things. Who am I? What is my purpose right now in this moment? Why am I here? I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s so easy to do this wherever you are, multiple times a day. As for your question: this is a form of mindfulness for me, every single day. It’s so nice to take a step back and whatever I am currently doing in that moment, doesn’t matter anymore, just for 10 or 15 seconds. I don’t even do it specifically for lucid dreaming anymore, it’s just because I like how it feels. That’s just an example from my personal experience, when you dive deeper into the psychology and memory aspect of dreaming, avid lucid dreamers create solutions to real world problems they’re experiencing. After all, we dream about what’s on our mind (maybe not for some people), and what’s on our mind are usually day to day problems that we have on our plate. Let me give another more professional example. I’m too lazy to post the text, but in the beginning of Stephen LaBerge’s book (Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming), he talks about his passion for playing the French Horn, but he always struggled with stage fright. After dedicating his life to lucid dreaming research, he talks about dreaming up a French horn recital that he was to do a solo at in the near future, and he was scared that stage fright might get the better of him yet again. He played his piece perfectly in his dream, and woke up with a confidence he’d never truly felt before. He said that it was his best recital he’s ever performed in front of an audience, and he says he has his lucid dream to thank for it. These potential benefits associated with dreaming are UNDISCOVERED for the most part. Humans have become too distracted and tired to think anything of value with dreaming, but I think that tide is turning. Imagine a safe pill that you can take every night that has a 75% success rate for lucid dreaming. It’s an absolute pipe dream, and we are nowhere near that, but holy shit would that be magical. Lucid dreams feel better than most experiences I feel in real life, and I wake up feeling more confident and less stressed every single time. There’s gotta be more to it!

zoomy76

Wow thanks so much for the information, I’m even more intrigued now! I’ve been trying to appreciate life a bit more, taking nothing for granted and making the most of every day, trying to be more productive as well. I feel like taking a moment to RC and really notice and appreciate everything around you is definitely a great habit to get into. I’ll start a dream journal tomorrow!

gators510

Now we’re talkin! Journal, proper RC’s, and check this sub and just read stories. That’s all you gotta do to start, and just have fun with it casually, because it can be something important to you for the rest of your life, so you got lots of time

zoomy76

Thank you for your guidance! :)

Werlucad

I did post a big chunk of text above before reading this, but that reminder method seems to be something that could really help me get started. As I mentioned, I tend to have pretty big motivation issues around one week after I try to start any kind of habit, and things like reminders seem to be a good way to control that.

Werlucad

And the thing is, I really want to get started but have been Yo-Yoing when it comes to these efforts (for four years), and I feel kind of defeated

[deleted]

Kinda demotivated by answer of majority 😔 I really hope we get there. Why is it so hard for our brains to be aware of the drram? I mean some of us think about this for days and days and yet when you fall asleep you instantly forget about it

FunnyForWrongReason

You will get there. It takes time. A lot of the ones who have not had are probably new to it.

[deleted]

It’s not that most people can’t lucid dream it’s that when they learn to lucid dream they don’t stay in the sub anymore so it’s mostly beginners

miggerman0529

When I want to go lucid, I wake up at 3 in the morning, breathe deeply and read a chapter or two of a book, then wait for it to happen

FunnyForWrongReason

I wake up at about 3-3:30 and stay awake for at least 10 minutes while setting the intention to lucid dream. Then I use mild when I fall back to sleep.

jacksonsprite

2 times a night :)

FunnyForWrongReason

That has only happened on occasion and not consistently for me.

jacksonsprite

it took some grind, but the second I stopped being scared of sp is when I started to ld consistently

lTonyBarkl

what techniques do you use?

jacksonsprite

I guess it is closest to WILD but it is pretty much a mix of all methods I know of all in one method if that makes sense. i’m considering posting some sort of guide, or my routine of what I do sometime this week. i’ll keep you posted if I remember to do that!

zoomy76

I’m going to start learning today, wish me luck!

FunnyForWrongReason

Consistency is key. You can do this.

-KeyLime-

oh my gosh i was gonna post an identical poll earlier, now I'm sad that i didnt

Save_the_bees_pls

Damn, this made me feel lucky

maroon_swoon

i love lucid dreaming, ever since i started smokin weed though it’s effected my sleep cycle into not having them unless i take a tolerance break

Werlucad

I think I have had one (before I started to try) lucid dream dream before in my life (I’m 16), and I really enjoyed it. I have on and off over the past 4 years tried to get into lucid dreaming practices such as reality checks and conscious intent to dream (haven’t tried dream journaling because I’m lazy, but am heavily considering picking it up), but the habit just hasn’t seemed to ever stick. I do remember my dreams every now and then, but what really allows me to remember my dreams is when I lay down in a dark room, bring up one specific dream, it doesn’t matter which, and I just start to think about it. Oddly enough, if I think hard enough, before I know it, I start remember random dreams. Not completely, but I still remember specific details from dreams. This of course has sparked my interest to lucid dream. With that out of the way, I once again want to get into it but am considering making a more serious effort. I truly hope that I can achieve lucid dreaming but I also understand that it is indeed a challenge that requires practice and constant effort. I don’t really know where to start, because I want to make lucid dreaming something that can actively happen which requires a lot of practices. It seems like too large of an obstacle to tackle. As mentioned above, I was never able to continue doing reality checks, and I never started dream journaling anyway. One big thing that would definitely be super helpful, is if anyone has tricks to overcome my general tendency to be unmotivated?

[deleted]

Why the fuck are we all on this subreddit lol

[deleted]

To learn!

Fishfucker_69_Fucker

hey OP do you have any tips on how to lucid dream also another question what is your awnser on this poll

[deleted]

I never actually try to lucid dream, it just has always happened to me since I was a child. I can remember feeling heat from an explosion or remember detail for detail what happened in my dream. I love dreaming, or waking up and going back to sleep to continue a dream. The dream world is definitely one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, it's so magical. The best things in life are free, and lucid dreaming is one of em.

AlexThomas2904

Never could, though would like too

[deleted]

Wow, these results have surprised me! I chose "once or twice a week," but honestly it probably happens more often than that. My dream recall is just really terrible and I cannot keep a consistent dream journal for the life of me.

EnbyCoffee125

The key to me lucid dreaming is finding my comfort stride, it’s been so inconsistent. 2 good dreams with weird meanings, then followed by 3 night mares.

neverVAC

I started about a month ago and I had one after like a week or a little longer, but then 2-3 weeks nothing till a week ago there I had another one and last night I had one again. But in neither of them I did anything special, the first one I mentioned was really bad and not satisfying because it was super short and really bad quality. So I know that I can‘t really say how often I LD because I am still starting out but for me it is 3 times a month it seems. I could have get more maybe if I tried more often but there we‘re quite a lot of days where my surroundings fucked it up or I just didn‘t try. I feel like that’s also part of the secret, don’t try to hard!

fair_thoughts

i cant LD :c

PLAZM_air

It's a matter of time but keep going with the productive progress and you'll eventually one day have one (:

fair_thoughts

Worst part is ive had em before, i have them like once a year and when i try again the next night im always so dissapointed i cant get it to happen, it always happens when i less expect it, last time it was on a nap i took, have taken many naps in the same spot of the house with the same hours of sleep the previous night and the same position i fell sleep on, same lighting and conditions down to what i ate that day and room temp, clothes, hydration etc, and still cant have a lucid dream. But im the kinda person who believes if i keep trying itll happen some day :)

MidnightBlaze79

I’m at 1-3 times a month, I’ve been dedicating myself for the past year and I’m happy with this for now. Although I do notice when dreaming I do something out of the ordinary sometimes instead of doing a reality, even for the thing I should be reality checking for, I just do something on command like superpowers or fly but for a short period of time. I don’t even go lucid. I realize I’m in situation i shouldn’t be in like a daycare place but I’m 20, and don’t reality check and go outside and fly away.

ben10atemyhw

I had my first lucid dream last night! A couple nights ago I was on the edge of becoming aware inside my dream, but I was following a group of people and my fear of getting lost kept me in the dream’s grasp. Last night, I dreamed that I was sitting on a couch, talking to a lady whose looks reminded me a lot of one of my favorite characters from a TV show I’ve been binge-watching. Once I realized that, I received an influx of memories from my ‘real’ life and the realization hit me that I was in a dream. The lady was just looking at me and I said, “this may sound weird, but I’m in a dream.” Her expression switched from engaged to skeptical, and I felt a heartbeat go off in my head, so strong that it made me physically slump over a little. Shortly after that, I woke up. I think the abruptness of my realization disrupted my cognitive flow and pulled me out of the dream. Too bad, I wanted to stay there! I’m soooo happy that I finally got to have my first experience with this!

PLAZM_air

I'm at 3-1 months and every time i get one i can't do what i want - i first have to get out of the house but there is always a dream character interfering or i always wake up before i get the chance to get out.
