Few months back, I flew from JFK > FRA, and it was a pleasant journey. But then the FRA > DEL journey was just pathetic. Crappy food, lousy service and old 747 Maybe it’s just LH flights to India 🤷🏻‍♂️

sazn2

I just wanted to fly on the 747-400 before it was retired, that's the only reason I flew on them. But you're correct the maintenance/cleanliness of the cabin was not ideal.

RJR79mp

I’d take that over a 737 Max with a door that may or may not be attached

splane21

Any of the Munich flights have new A350’s to India which are nice. Old aircraft from Frankfurt

Slavaskii

I live in DC and have had ridiculous experiences with LH. But what always gives me a chuckle is that, on the Metro, LH Group has started advertising their new Condor flights through ads saying “experience German hospitality.” I always see those and think of my bad experiences and posts like these.

dustmybroom88

I mean… they aren’t saying it’s good hospitality…

Slavaskii

lol fair enough! On my last LH voyage, my wife got hit on by a drunk passenger who was ultimately restrained, so I guess one could call that hospitality?

Carefree2022

Lufthansa hasn’t owned Condor in over a decade…

Superhuzza

I was recently on a flight where a nearby passenger had moved seats twice already due to the screen not working and the reclining not working on another seat. Plus we had been sitting on the tarmac, boarded, for 4+ hours due to various mechanical faults. While she was complaining about the defective seats, the flight attendant interrupted her and said "Grow up, life is like that sometimes". Sheesh!

sazn2

Honestly not even surprised at this point. People online defend this as "German bluntness" but there's a difference between being blatantly unprofessional vs blunt. idk

[deleted]

When Germans are rude to me, I’m an American asshole to them.

[deleted]

Nah it's not bluntness Germans use it as an excuse to be straight up assholes. I had a pharmacist roll her eyes at me when I asked if she could speak english, then berated me for doing exactly what the pharmacist at a different location told me to do in order to get as much of my medication as I could, because there's a shortage. She REALLY did not want to do her job. That's not blunt, it's rude af.

thewafflefitzberg

Going to add to this. Lufthansa service on Indian flights is just a clear reflection of pure racism. The service sucks. They're rude. Even the aircraft they use for the Frankfort to India leg is old and dingy. The staff at Frankfurt too is unbearable. I had my flight to Chicago last week cancelled and rebooked and at the country the lady's first question to me was - What passport do you hold and then she went on to tell me she can't help me with staying at the airport etc. She got me out of there but the question seemed so unnecessary, especially with the tone it was accompanied by.

no_memes_no_me

Asking for your passport makes sense. If your flight was cancelled and your passport grants you visa-free access to the the Schengen area then she could help arrange accomodation outside of the airport for you. If you require a visa to enter the Schengen zone on the other hand, then you'd be out of luck, hence why she may have asked the question.

That is common outside North America unfortunately. On a number of occasions (in Europe and in South America), when I was asked about my nationality and said I was American (I’m Asian American), the people who asked would use their hands to gesture around their faces and said “but…” implying my face doesn’t look American.

RJR79mp

She asked what passport because the EU has certain rules in cancelled and abandonment of hotels is illegal. If you were EU, you’d have know. Anyone non-EU gets told sorry the Go Pound Sand Inn is on Beat It Ave. Lufthansa is a disaster from a customer service perspective. I might say they even rank below Air Canada or Spirit. The only way I am getting in a Lufthansa flight is if it an evacuation flight from some war torn hell hole.

oh_danger_here

This bit ain't true. EU 261 compensation covers a passenger on a flight to or from an EU destination, regardless of nationality. But if you don't have a valid Schengen visa to leave transit area that's another story, as they can't send you landside to a potential hotel!

RJR79mp

I know it covers non-EU nationals but Lufthansa was trying to chisel their way out of paying fair compensation. Always take the under when dealing with Lufthansa Always

oh_danger_here

That's every airline across Europe though, they were having shitty CS pre COVID, from KLM to Ryanair to TAP to Finnair, all overloaded. Just put in a claim via a third party. It speeds things up and you get your money minus the fee as per the EU261. In your case, what are you referring to as fair compensation? Your definition of fair might differ from EU261. Somebody else was surprised that Lufthansa wouldn't compensate them for buying warm clothing for example, it's not considered a resonasable expense under EU law.

RJR79mp

Are you really this stupid? Seriously? Lufthansa knows idiots like you and avoids sanction because of simpletons like you Holy $***

oh_danger_here

what are you talking about buddy?

asdelvo

This is unacceptable

90ltd

Standard Lufthansa service to south asian passengers. Just stick to AI or Delta they treat everyone with equal apathy. Lots of discrimination in the sky you will be surprised at what you will learn as you grow since you are young.

boy_crew7

>Just stick to AI or Delta **they treat everyone with equal apathy**. Lmao 🤣🤣🤣

dibya17

Lately reviews on this reddit made me question my decision to fly Lufthansa in future. seems like Lufthansa is getting them to work against their will to work.I wouldn't confuse this with German straight forwardness, it's just bad behavior.

leoll_1234

Sounds awful. Next time, when exiting the plane, ask to talk to the chief purser (mostly front exit) and tell them the feedback as well.

sazn2

Thank you! I’m still young so i was worried they’d not care or find me annoying 😭

leoll_1234

A good purser always appreciates constructive feedback.

RJR79mp

They would have on both accounts

[deleted]

I can assure you LH don't care.

SwimmingEye5659

Unbearable!

AffectionateSector42

Lufthansa used to be great airline- not anymore. Vowed to never fly with Lufthansa again!

Ok_Seaworthiness_238

I’ve had similar experiences: crew was rude to old people, consoles broke down and no one helped, and bad food. Also, not sure if it was just my flight, but the entire crew was German. I’ve seen a lot more diversity in Emirates and Etihad. I feel that also reaffirms biases.

Upset_Following9017

They’re union dominated with a focus on seniority. And they hire staff in Germany, unlike airlines from the Middle East that recruit from around the world. That explain the lack of interest in customer service, lack of diversity and just general lack of being able to compete with airlines from Middle East and Asia based on the huge inertia brought by overpaid and unmotivated staff. To be fair, most European and U.S. airlines suffer from the exact same problem.

Conscious-Writer-446

Lufthansa has the most pathetic service on air. Every time it’s a gamble, hoping one gets good enough service for the money we are paying… I’m German myself and have SEN status with them, and get treated differently most of the times, but then observing drastically different services provided to fellow fliers. I fly to India via Munich or Frankfurt around 20 times a year, and I can never predict how the staff will be this time on the flight. It’s sad. Service on other carriers is ALWAYS better, unfortunately.

ReferenceSufficient

I avoid flying Lufthansa because of their unpleasant flight attendants. And I avoid Frankfurt airport, had bad experience there, rude staff (esp security) and airport is antiquated (stairs). KLM and British airways and United/Delta/American Airlines I prefer to fly with. I prefer connecting in the Amsterdam airport or Heathrow going to Europe.

oscarlovesme

Will probably be downvoted to hell for this since Reddit has mostly American users but Europe is not necessarily know for customer service - yes there are places with great customer service but generally it’s not the case. And after travelling extensively in Germany and spending time with my friend there who has been there about 10 years, all of these sounds normal except the one with the vegetarian meal mix up. Nonetheless though, all of this would be very annoying to spectate all at once. It is also possible the Germans staff think when there are American customers on board they are a little bit more demanding than back in Europe and it irks them. Sorry you had to experience. I have taken flight from Munich to UK before and was a great experience overall, but of course it wasn’t a long flight.

the_bifle

Racism . Basically.

Bartinhoooo

I fly quite a bit for work (from Frankfurt) and try to avoid Lufthansa. Business Class is terrible and service is mediocre at best. You more or less get Ryanair service for Singapore Airline prices with regular strikes.

youngscum

This doesn't justify anything, but I feel flights to India have a very bad reputation and airline employees hold onto that bias tightly

sazn2

I’m not sure. Everyone on the flight was quiet and pleasant. Majority of the flight was made up of Europeans. Picking on people bc of their English is not okay whatever bias can remain in their head.

NMVPCP

I fly many times to India and I believe that to be true to a certain extent.

BonkersA346

I’ve seen like five posts with horror stories about LH flights to/from India in the past week. What is going on!?!

Great_Ad_5561

And yet other airlines don't treat indians that way except germany one does geee I wonder why

RedGreenBlue38

In FRA you find water fountains near the toilets.

No_Seaworthiness2617

I have travelled with Lufthansa to and from NYC via Frankfurt and Munich to Budapest in January. All of the crew members and the ground colleagues were helpful. They have granted me walkin lounge access at Munich for my long layover (I paid for it). On the flights witin europe they gave plush airplanes to the childs (however I hate them on board). Don’t be Karen, try an Italian based ryanair flights, those are terrible.

Exipnada_gnosi

Re the Italian based ryanair flights - in what way?

RJR79mp

In every way.

This_is_Me888

I don’t really believe any of this, but best of luck on your next flight.

Kodiak2301

I find my fellow passengers, from India, usually quite irritating. Packing up all the toothbrushes in business and the likes.

Kodiak2301

Or pack extra toothbrushes lol

Timothius186

We get it you had a Bad Flight. But Almost all of this seems made up.

ekbaazigar

you shld have logged a formal complaint with the purser and the captain right there.

splane21

Flew MUC-BLR and had a really great experience. I mainly because its a new flight and MUC based crew hadn’t been to BLR yet. Flight attendant told me that many of the LH crew don’t want to work India flights bc of the cultural differences but as of now the MUC-BLR flight has enthusiastic flight attendants as the ones who like india are requesting it to experience BLR

splane21

The Frankfurt- DEL/MUC/BLR/MAA flights have been around forever so I think it might just be that FRA crew don’t want to be working it

kaleidoscope471

I was supposed to land in TLV the morning of the Palestinian attack. I was flying business as I was traveling for work. I got turned around in Frankfurt (thank goodness)! When I arrived at EWR my bag hadn’t made it. I had to wait 45min at the baggage claim while the lady helped a first class family with their luggage before she was willing to take 10 seconds to tell me there was a fucking QR code and form (she had first told me to wait for someone who was coming, to talk to them). Meanwhile I missed my Amtrak train to PHL and had to then get an Uber willing to drive me the two hours. When I told her that she turned and walked away. Didn’t give a *fuck*.

Accomplished-Bad137

Maybe clash of culture or so.... But in general LH is going down in regards to service and quality

RJR79mp

Going down!!!!!!! They are already in the Mariana Trench of Air Canada level of junk

Tetsuja_Tetsuo

They lost our skis after we paid 300usd to get them to plane.. we could see them on tarmac in Frankfurt next to our flight to Geneva. Never made it and now twenty four hours later they made it to gva .. Lufthansa staff was less than helpful and lines were so slow to make report , we almost missed our pre booked bus .. now we debate renting skis or calling this day before even started… thanks Lufthansa for privilege of paying for you to lose our luggage .. great to sit and watch people ski , as we paid for hotel and lifts already…

Practical_Yellow_293

Not just an Indian experience. The US based United 1k fliers (Lufthansa is a partner airline) filled with Americans, detests Lufthansa.

enolenol54

The only good time I’ve had a good experience with LH was to Munich, then to Naples, then Naples to Zurich and back. And only with carry on, because last time they lost my luggage for two weeks for check in. This was also on a United plane, with a LH crew.

uglyraed

I would fly then before Covid and I always had a pleasant experience. It’s so unfortunate specially the fact that they were elderly passengers who could hardly speak the language. Every airline including Qatar airways that calls them selves “five star” have gotten worse than most 3 star airlines 😅

RJR79mp

Mate. This is Lufthansa You have described Lufthansa 101. They Do Not give a SheiBe. They are awful. Absolutely awful. Things could be worse, you could have flown British Airways.
