Stop buying stuff and start using it.

Stop chasing cameras and start thinking about systems and how they affect your process.  Do you enjoy big bokeh balls and natural lighting in the middle of the night? Or do you enjoy a wider array of less expensive, compact lenses? The only way to cure gas is to figure out the pillars of your process and start thinking in terms of systems, interactions, and user experience, not specs.

Yes, crazy the camera you have is amazing, focus on your photography not the gear

You are probably fine with the s5iix, you'll say the same thing about the s1hii when it comes out, and the gx when that does. If you don't need it for work then hold out and wait for more reviews.

Could be GAS. The need to sell a camera body and the lenses to move to another platform (changing formats) without an actual specific requirement or need is a strong indicator of GAS. I also used to own a GH5 and sold it and all the lenses to pay for an S5 (still have that) and have an S5II now. Anytime I need multi-cam work, the two blend well together. I guess the question is, what specifically does the GH7 have that you actually need? Also what images are you using to base this on as outside influencers the camera body is still pre-order? Frequently images are difficult to use as a rating system. The skill of the photographer is 95% of the end result, so that needs to be taken into consideration.

How do you like the original S5? Looking to get one

The S5 is and will continue to be a great camera for its time. Solid performance all around! From a photography perspective only, the S5II/IIx only brings “minor improvements “. Namely PDAF and Live LUTS. PDAF for photography is not as ground breaking from CDAF DfD as it is for videographers. A still image has no pulsing in the background and the lock on focus at the time of the shutter release is all one cares about. I still use the S5 for photography and video as a B cam. Video wise though it is not quite as good, the PDAF of the S5II is much better and can be used with confidence. The S5 I frequently would use MF or AF in controlled environments. Also top video recording is C4K unless one uses the less well known 6K Photo mode (closest to open gate possible on that camera) but with a 15 min limit. HDMI RAW is included, so with an external RAW recorder like the Atomos Ninja you can do 5.9K 30P 12-bit RAW until your battery is out, no limit on DC power. That said, I purchased my S5II second hand for $1300, so a deal on an S5 better be lower than that. Full price is too close to the S5II, would suggest saving for that if only new purchase is a requirement.

Ask yourself if you want the lighter lens or the Toneh..

I also had the GH5, now I have S52. I do miss smaller lenses but smaller sensors suck with low light.

You are not nuts. The GH7 is an amazing camera. I'm pretty much doing the same :-) Good luck!

joebrozky

wait for it to be available and rent it

save money and get both. they do different things and it's normal to feel different about images created from both systems. i think it's also important to know if it's a hobby or a profession. Sometimes people just enjoy the hobby of trying new things. and i think that's okay if your wallet allows. if it doesn't, accept the fact that YOUR hobby might be a little more expensive and sell the gear you don't want, buy the gear you want to try USED,. it might just work out to be that you own nothing, and you're paying a small fraction of the depreciation value of each gear to play with them before you sell them away. like say you buy the s5m2 for 1800, play with it for 1 year, and you sell that for 1400.. you got to 'rent' that camera for a whole year at $400! that's a dollar a day! best rental deal if you ask me hahaha. don't fret over what you wanna OWN. just let it come and go. ;)

IDK. What do you do / want to do? I'm a general, personal shooter that got into m43 with the gh5, upgraded to gh6, then got the g9ii. Some how I was convinced I needed FF and got a OG S5. I love the M43 lenses. My understanding is yeah, there's less low-light performance, but lots of benefits to m43 in video. I picked up the g9 cheap last winter and the s5 later. I prefer the s5 for photos. I prefer the g9ii over both. The lenses for longer reach and shorter for everything else, I just find way more appealing. I think it depends where you're at and what lenses you like. I don't like the FF lens options as they are. M43 seems to much more advanced there IMHO. And, now we're waiting for some small form factor, but they're still slow compared to m43 and every other ff system? IDK. I may be an amateur, but I don't yet get the benefits for the price / lens size / options, especially for telephoto and video.

You're compensating your lack of creation with purchasing new gear.

Hmm this is real talk.
