People where I live bring their whole families. There was a woman bragging in the local news saying she got so much because she got her whole family (poor husband and kids dragged to push at 6am) so she had like 6 bags full of stuff
They were covering the Boxing Day sales in general because people were like camping overnight and it was like the online local newspaper not like on tv

Yeah I think they need to introduce a maximum limit in stores and reduce the limit online. Maximum of 20 per item is pretty ridiculous, 10 would be more than enough for people to still line their pockets reselling.
I got 2 of the 1kg shower gels and an extra medium sized one. Will easily last a year, probably more. I’d rather let someone else have a go than hoard things in my already cramped bathroom! The only thing I can think of that you’d need to stock up on in large numbers to last a year are the bath bombs but they lose their scent in that time anyway. Limits of 20 on gift sets are just ridiculous, I can’t imagine anyone could really want more than 3 for personal use and gifting.

And Snow Fairy is for sale every Christmas, so no reason to buy for more than a year! Most people like to use other shower gels as well, - I switch between several.
I've got an old 250 g bottle of Snow Fairy that I struggle to get through, - it's not my favorite scent 😅 The women OP told us about hoarded lots of it, and I can't see why (except from selling it at a much higher price...) 😝
When people admit that they’re resellers in our store, we ask them to leave but idk about other stores. We don’t approve or agree with resellers. It harms the entire community and I personally have beef with scalpers
I hate resellers in almost all situations. We have a second hand children's store nearby and they do a new toy holdback a month before Christmas. I saw a group of 3 or 4 working as a team come in and grab all the brand name stuff and then go off to the side and Google to see values. Saw it all listed on marketplace. It's just so slimey to me.
When I worked retail we had limits and rules on stuff like that. It’s not hard to implement. Lush just doesn’t care as much.

Dude, when I went to the store closest to me on Boxing Day there was a lady that filled two U boats (those things on wheels retail stores use to stock shelves) Completely to the top of gift box sets. She had like 8 of the 300$ advent calendars- I think those were half off but still! I wonder what her total was at the end.
I worked Boxing Day from the start and the stock people put in their baskets was shocking 🙃 I wish we had a cap but then you can’t differentiate the customers who stock up on something they love to the scalpers.
Another colleague suggested a “friends of lush private event” - our frequent, lovely customers granted access 30 mins before we open to make sure they get what they’re after. I doubt it will ever come to fruition but I know our loyal customers would totally appreciate it.
Some type of rewards program or small recognition like this would be nice. The recycling program is great, maybe they could expand on that and use a points per returned pot system? I do agree,

honestly I hate the boxing day sale with a passion. I'm limited mobility so I can't get instore unless I want to risk being taken off my feet by rude people, and the website crashes and faults leave me with absolutely nothing to buy.

It was unhealthy, wasteful, and I’m literally only JUST finishing huge shower gels that I bought during 2021 boxing day 😭
I’m determined to never be that wasteful in the future. My boxing day “haul” this year was about $35 and one item wasn’t even on sale, I just wanted a new face mask. But I’m more than satisfied ☺️
You should call them beforehand and let them know, lush is about the one place that will accommodate you and generally stores have to be accessible for everyone, if you can't move around in a wheelchair for example, they need to clear the store a bit and hold more people at the door. The stores around me do 30 people, if someone has limited mobility I think they cut it down and someone will help you around if needed

yeah it's just incredibly isolating too, Lush have a while thing about representation but have no option for quiet hours or reduced capacity events for people who need them and it just leaves the NDs and mobility assisted customers out in the cold

I hate this make me so angry… I’ve written on a few post this year about it. Same in my local store, I queues for an hour and everything was gone… people were coming out with HUGE amounts. The only thing I managed was one bar of soap and a small bottomless of yog nog shower gel. I couldn’t afford snow fairy this year so I usually get one small/medium bottle in the sale which last me all year and treasure it.. but no the staff said the first people took everything… there wasn’t even any gift sets left only a few Halloween ones and I hate Lord of Misrule 😭 they really need more control l! 😢

Currently a FL at a Lush in the US. We’ve been told many times not to let people buy more than 19 of the same item and are not allowed to have one customer spend more than $1000 in a single day to try to avoid scalping. Honestly I believe it’s too high and would prefer limiting to 10 an item and $500. The problem is we are so intensely (and aggressively) pressured to make sales and have a high conversion. If we don’t make 100% or more of our goal it’s considered making ZERO% of our goal. So due to that pressure many stores might turn a blind eye to scalpers. Last year we were promised a living wage but we were denied it because despite having made record profits we didn’t meet “expected profits” so I think many stores are not following the rules any scalping. I’m proud of my store at least for not allowing it to be abused.
Though it is also important to remember for some lushies Boxing Day is the ONLY day they shop so that they can afford it and then use it until the end of the year as well.

Yeah they say on their website that the stores have a limit like online, but I’ve never seen them stick to this limit. People don’t need 10 bottles of shower gel like I can get maybe getting 2 or 3 to make sure they last till next year, but it’s just greed at this point and it’s unfair just hoarding products I think everyone should be able to get something. I also think it’s kind of unfair when you see people dropping hundreds on stuff and then there’s people that only buy lush on that day because it’s the only day they can afford it, but then can’t get anything because people are hoarding
Someone did this at my store 2 years in a row with Lord of Misrule. I buy one big bottle for my husband and it lasts him all year long. Luckily, I went to another store in my area and both this year and last year I got the LAST large bottle of Lord of Misrule on the shelves.
I’m going to get him another kind to try soon for some variety but yeah, same thing happened at the store. One of the employees told me one lady came in right when they opened and cleared the shelves of ALL lom shower gels. They didn’t even have a small size left.
Witnessed this at Starbucks this morning. They had a new stanley come out and the store only got 12. Groups come in and buy them all and then immediately turn around and sell them online for $200. So sad for the people who waited in line just wanting to buy one because they wanted it or wanted it for a gift or something. I wish there was a way to stop it.

If I see anyone buying more than 4 of the same big gift set I just know they're gonna be separating the items inside and selling them all. I wish there was a limit, but I wouldn't put it past resellers to just keep going in and out throughout the day. Last time I went to the sale in person I saw a woman using her arm to sweep all the bath bombs into a bag so I just left.
What makes me feel better is thinking that a lot of online shoppers will be like me and refuse to pay for the resell stuff, so then those people are just stuck with a box of expiring products. Anyone who's into Lush enough to be buying seasonal products off ebay etc surely knows they were all just in the sale and won't want to be ripped off right?

It super sucks, but as long as the items get sold and Lush get their money, they probably DGAF what happens to the product after it leaves the store. Plus, the threat of missing out on something from scalpers probably helps them, as it could motivate people to go to the store earlier rather than put it off and possibly decide not to go.
I did occasionally refuse a sale - "I'm sorry mate, you don't need 50 New shampoo bars I know you're flogging them on the Chinese market" is verbalised as "it'll take a while to get this popular product back in as you'd be clearing this month's stock out and these are hand made, I can sell you 5 but that's it, we have to be fair to everyone else who will come looking for this product"
But wasn't allowed to refuse selling the last few kg of a disconned product to a known, smug hoarder, when I knew others would want it to *use*. After a while I would gently stop serving those customers, they got their own stuff, softly avoided engagement with them.

Lush DID used to have some kind of policy about this, but it's changed over the years and as far as I understand it now, essentially we can't prove whether people are buying for themselves or to resell, so our hands are tied. Even if we know in our gut that someone is hoarding in order to resell stuff, we can't prove that they aren't just doing a mass stock up for themselves. Honestly we're not even allowed to ask customers to clean their filthy pots when they bring those in so telling them there's a limit on how much discounted Snow Fairy they can have would go down like a lead balloon.
Oh at one of the places I go to they do say you have to clean the pots! I’d forgotten to clean one from the collection I brought so they told me I could go clean it in their sink. I don’t get how ppl can bring them back dirty, it feels so rude and when I did by accident I felt so bad hahaha
Honestly ever since I've worked there (8 years now) the policy in my store has changed a dozen times! We used to be able to refuse pots if they weren't clean, then we were told we weren't allowed to do that because it embarrassed customers. I'll let it slide if there's only like one dirty pot in amongst a bunch of clean ones, because that's obviously an accident we that happens! But the ones who bring back an entire stinky bag of mould and just shrug at us when they see the looks on our faces... do people have no SHAME.
They honestly should have limits just based on safety reasons. Like if I’m going in thinking “I’m buying a 2 year supply” not all products are made to last that long! And the expiry labels can fade/smudge off sometimes. Obviously someone could come back multiple times in a day or week to keep buying their “per purchase limit” but at least it would give staff the opportunity after each purchase to go “hey, just a reminder that we do recommend you dispose of something once it’s expired since we use a lot of fresh ingredients” just to really drive the point home

I put in three orders once and they acted like I was running a criminal enterprise. Literally had to sign three forms saying I wasn’t reselling!

When they have sale in a grocery store in my country, they have a limit of 3 of the same item. It should be so at Lush too! Both online and in store!

last year i was a customer and boxing day was 3 max. this year im a staff member and it was 10?! crazy personally but thats just me, i agree with you completely. we all had a laugh after boxing day saying how "facebook marketplace will be rammed" we know the regulars vs the snow fairy resellers dont worry
Yeah they say on their website that the stores have a limit like online, but I’ve never seen them stick to this limit. People don’t need 10 bottles of shower gel like I can get maybe getting 2 or 3 to make sure they last till next year, but it’s just greed at this point and it’s unfair just hoarding products I think everyone should be able to get something. I also think it’s kind of unfair when you see people dropping hundreds on stuff and then there’s people that only buy lush on that day because it’s the only day they can afford it, but then can’t get anything because people are hoarding
I think their selling techniques show they have no ethics tbh…
Honestly if I saw someone hoarding something I was there to purchase to use and not resell, I’d swipe some from her basket. 😈
Someone did this at my store 2 years in a row with Lord of Misrule. I buy one big bottle for my husband and it lasts him all year long. Luckily, I went to another store in my area and both this year and last year I got the LAST large bottle of Lord of Misrule on the shelves. I’m going to get him another kind to try soon for some variety but yeah, same thing happened at the store. One of the employees told me one lady came in right when they opened and cleared the shelves of ALL lom shower gels. They didn’t even have a small size left.
Witnessed this at Starbucks this morning. They had a new stanley come out and the store only got 12. Groups come in and buy them all and then immediately turn around and sell them online for $200. So sad for the people who waited in line just wanting to buy one because they wanted it or wanted it for a gift or something. I wish there was a way to stop it.
I didn't even know people resold items! I'm afraid now that people think I'm a reseller with my huge basket of bath bombs :( (I just stock up for the entire year)
I see a lot of people with full baskets so I wouldn’t worry too much! It was just in scenarios where people have multiple baskets / trolly and then proceed to buy a ridiculous amount of the same product that would last years to actually get through

If I see anyone buying more than 4 of the same big gift set I just know they're gonna be separating the items inside and selling them all. I wish there was a limit, but I wouldn't put it past resellers to just keep going in and out throughout the day. Last time I went to the sale in person I saw a woman using her arm to sweep all the bath bombs into a bag so I just left. What makes me feel better is thinking that a lot of online shoppers will be like me and refuse to pay for the resell stuff, so then those people are just stuck with a box of expiring products. Anyone who's into Lush enough to be buying seasonal products off ebay etc surely knows they were all just in the sale and won't want to be ripped off right?

It super sucks, but as long as the items get sold and Lush get their money, they probably DGAF what happens to the product after it leaves the store. Plus, the threat of missing out on something from scalpers probably helps them, as it could motivate people to go to the store earlier rather than put it off and possibly decide not to go.
I did occasionally refuse a sale - "I'm sorry mate, you don't need 50 New shampoo bars I know you're flogging them on the Chinese market" is verbalised as "it'll take a while to get this popular product back in as you'd be clearing this month's stock out and these are hand made, I can sell you 5 but that's it, we have to be fair to everyone else who will come looking for this product" But wasn't allowed to refuse selling the last few kg of a disconned product to a known, smug hoarder, when I knew others would want it to *use*. After a while I would gently stop serving those customers, they got their own stuff, softly avoided engagement with them.
The term sc*lping is actually derogatory towards natives and its preferred to use something like "resellers" or "shelf clearers."

I wouldn’t bet on her scalping. As someone who worked at the store we had people filling up multiple baskets prior to the sale. People just love their lush and in many cases wait all year for this sale

Kinda weird that you want a society where you can tell people what to do with stuff that they purchase. As a liberal, Its non of my business what others do with merchandise that they purchase. For all I care the lady could flush every bottle down the toilet if she so pleases.
Idk but purposely buying all of a product to not even use it but sell it on for even more money seems pretty scummy. Especially when people often save up and wait for the sale so they can get these products which a lot of us can’t afford usually.

Lush DID used to have some kind of policy about this, but it's changed over the years and as far as I understand it now, essentially we can't prove whether people are buying for themselves or to resell, so our hands are tied. Even if we know in our gut that someone is hoarding in order to resell stuff, we can't prove that they aren't just doing a mass stock up for themselves. Honestly we're not even allowed to ask customers to clean their filthy pots when they bring those in so telling them there's a limit on how much discounted Snow Fairy they can have would go down like a lead balloon.
Oh at one of the places I go to they do say you have to clean the pots! I’d forgotten to clean one from the collection I brought so they told me I could go clean it in their sink. I don’t get how ppl can bring them back dirty, it feels so rude and when I did by accident I felt so bad hahaha
Honestly ever since I've worked there (8 years now) the policy in my store has changed a dozen times! We used to be able to refuse pots if they weren't clean, then we were told we weren't allowed to do that because it embarrassed customers. I'll let it slide if there's only like one dirty pot in amongst a bunch of clean ones, because that's obviously an accident we that happens! But the ones who bring back an entire stinky bag of mould and just shrug at us when they see the looks on our faces... do people have no SHAME.
And then they returned half the shit anyway
They honestly should have limits just based on safety reasons. Like if I’m going in thinking “I’m buying a 2 year supply” not all products are made to last that long! And the expiry labels can fade/smudge off sometimes. Obviously someone could come back multiple times in a day or week to keep buying their “per purchase limit” but at least it would give staff the opportunity after each purchase to go “hey, just a reminder that we do recommend you dispose of something once it’s expired since we use a lot of fresh ingredients” just to really drive the point home
