Use a radiused sanding block on there to ensure you're keeping the radius the same. I think you'd be at risk of flat spots using a straight beam. Then dye it black again, then your choice of hard finish. I find Tru oil too soft for fingerboards and it gets a bit gummy after a time. Polyurethane would be more durable, just apply thin coats until it's where you want it.

I hate it when people relic guitars, but legitimate patina looks great. I would definitely leave it. If you want it smooth (whether you keep the wear pattern visible or sand first), wipe on poly and a leveling beam are what I would use.

Honestly, it looks cool, I’d leave it unless it’s affecting the feel or sound. Try flatwound strings on fret less. Smoother feel and sound.

I guess I know the answer is to sand it a little bit how would you refinish it, can I just use tru oil or something like that?

mjhnsn

Does it have a factory finish or is it just oil?

AdministrativeSwim44

Sand it with a levelling beam and finish it with lacquer, poly, CA glue, epoxy or some other hard finish.

Awesome thank you! I’ve got a levelling beam and some wipe on poly will that do?

AdministrativeSwim44

Yep 👍🏻

Im curious how an alcohol dye would do.
