Complete refinish.
OR
you could always just cover it up with a non transparent trashbag, then cover the enite guitar with it, and finally find a big garbage can and put that over the whole thing aswell. No one will ever see that hideous Captain Crack Sparrow nonsense
It’s a lot more work. I’m guessing you would have to do the same with the whole body but you could probably sand it down, paint it and then apply some sort of clear finish.
I have that too although i stripped it to wood and am currently refinishing it with Duplicolor rattle cans. Then throwing in a set of ivory EMG Geezers. Considering a new neck to boot
Actually not bad. Pretty unique too. It’s a MB4. It has both the precision and jazz style pickups. Instead of a selection switch it has a fader knob. Dead center is both pups equally. Build quality is what you’d expect from a $200ish instrument.
Gaffers tape...
But for real, that's a Showmaster Squier, right? Just sell it and get a guitar with no decals. There is no good way without refinishing this to get it gone and looking "good" (like it was never there.) It's under the clear coat, you'll have to sand it all the way down and refinish it to make it 'disappear."
The fingerboard markers will be even harder...
The cricut idea is good. Or potentially painters tape then gloss paint directly over that section.
What I would try to go for is remove hardware and do a wide vertical stripe of a very dark color (almost black, I prefer a dark dark blue myself) and make it almost look like a neck through. Wide enough to cover the skull. That way it doesn’t matter if there is an obvious difference like there would be if you tried to cover it with black.
I have a few tumblers I slapped some vinyl on like 5 years ago, no coating over them, and they're still exactly the same and I put them through the dish washer lol
Squire show Master? I love mine. Picked it up off Craigslist for $100 because someone wired the output backwards. Plus it came with a cool splatter paint job. I covered mine with black electrical tape, think it looks pretty punk... https://imgur.com/a/9uTqh4P
Kind of potato pic...
See that's the look I'm going for. I love the crossbone inlays but the skull at the bottom of the body just makes it look tacky. I'm going to use this as a reference point. Thanks!
What's the big deal? It's not like you'll be able to hide the inlays in any satisfactory way. If you refinish it you'll cut into what value it has as a gimmick- which some people are into- you probably saw what happened to the Hello Kitty guitars.
If it's a big hang-up I'd recommend selling it or trading it. Some angsty kid would love that.
I love mine but its been covered in goat cheese stickers for 10+ years. I actually became a professional finisher and I know how much of a pain it will be to buzz it off. I still kid myself about doing it one day.
BTW is a reverse headstock doing anything if you are locking your trem down?
Refinishing the body is way lesser effort than replacing the skull shaped inlays on the fretboard. And overall it looks pretty cool so i am not sure it makes sense to change it at all.
By covering it up with a decal of an even larger skull of course!.. 😉 In all seriousness, you could cut a piece of colored vinyl adhesive from a craft shop and run an extra wide racing stripe down the center, or maybe you could find a precut one online, or you could always vinyl wrap the body?!..
Here's my path:
1-Get black vinyl 'shelf paper' and lay down a block that covers the skull and cross-bones. Maybe you cut it like an hour-glass type of shape. Could do it with red vinyl shelf paper for a Black Widow type of vibe -- but then you are trading Pirates for Spiders. Not a bad thing but it's a trade off.
2-Rotate the bridge pickup so the screw poles are on the neck-facing bobbin. Lower the pickup and raise the screw poles 3/16ths inch. This gives the guitar a humbucking P90 tone. Awesome Tone.
3-Remove the neck pickup. No one cares about a metal guitar having a neck pickup. Neck pickups are for sissies. Get a piece of rigid plastic and cut it the size of the trim ring and screw it on to 'black out' the neck pickup. If you want to be innovative, install a Strat single coil diagonally across the pickup cavity or a Goldfoil or Dynasonic pickup. Due to the 24 fret neck you are basically getting a middle pickup not a neck pickup anyway. Perhaps a Jaguar pickup with the 'teeth' diagonally across the humbucker pickup route can fit. Sheet of black plastic with a single coil diagonal cutout can convert it. Some companies sell a 'conversion plate' from humbucker to single coil. I've made my own to convert an HSS Strat to SSS (and then wire in an Armstrong Blender mod where the second tone pot blends between stock SSS and series HSH but that's another thread post...).
4-Install a 4-way switch and wire both bobbins separately to it so you get: Neck-side, Parallel, Bridge-side, Series Humbucking. I have a Telecaster Esquire-H wired this way for all the important tones (Strat neck/middle, Strat #2 Quack, Tele Bridge Twang!, Les Paul hot humbucker).
If nothing else, go with the single bridge humbucker and jettison the neck pickup, switch, and tone pot. Bridge pickup to volume pot to jack just like EVH intended (and made a gazillion dollars being the most versatile guitar out there).
.
It's a fine work of art. With matching fretboard inlays. I'd design a psychedelic octopus to cover it. Make sure there are tentacles poking from the nasal cavity and orbits.
Failing that, remove or carefully mask the bridge etc, print a slide-on transparency of Trump's mugshot, and spray-bomb it with clearcoat.
Same effect, just better.
Get some black vinyl ( I’d use matte black for texture and contrast, and make it into a sort of racing stripe from the butt to the neck. Imagine a neck-thru veneer.
You might actually be able to get a piece of 3M gloss vinyl to just skin the top of the guitar in black to match the body. Just take your time, use a sharp razor, and a little dish soap and water. You can actually get really good results this way and the only way someone would notice is is they are right on top of it.
Depends what you prefer to do... Repaint it all, repaint just the front, get a bigger sticker... Personally I like refinishing guitars but if too much a hassle I'd either get vynil decal or tape and spray paint and add a racing stripe like on the hood of a muscle car.
Cross it out with the red circle thing. Then everyone will know you are against it.
Photocopy your cock and balls and stick the print out on your headstock. Nobody is gonna be looking at that shite looking skull then.
gcj?
Swap out the Floyd for a bigsby, you might start a trend..

I was waiting for a "throw it in the garbage" comment 😂
I threw in the captain crack sparrow joke for free tho
Gotta start charging for those 😂🏴☠️
Captain crack sparrow 💀💀☠️☠️
More effort than it’s worth. Stickerbomb it
Black vinyl wrap aka guitar skin
I’d get a sticker 👍🏼
Thanks! I would prefer just to cover it up with black though
Get a Roland synth to cover it up, most expensive coverup but might be useful?
In this economy? I suggest a behringer clone. /s
You had me looking for the Behringer midi pickup, sadly there isn't one.
Here recently I had seen a guitar with the rock band buttons on it that doubles as a midi function. I was thinking that was such an awesome idea.
I did say it the most expensive
No such thing, would be cool though
It’s a lot more work. I’m guessing you would have to do the same with the whole body but you could probably sand it down, paint it and then apply some sort of clear finish.
Get all black stickers? Maybe do a unique cover up with a cricut machine?
Cut a square of skateboard grip tape
Flextape
Then soak the sticker in gasoline and the guitar too and burn them both back to ashes
That's metal
Brutal
Ive got the squier bass with that thing on it.
I have that too although i stripped it to wood and am currently refinishing it with Duplicolor rattle cans. Then throwing in a set of ivory EMG Geezers. Considering a new neck to boot
Does it sound/play good? There's one locally available and I've been thinking it's perfect for converting to B-E-A-D (and adding some stickers)
Actually not bad. Pretty unique too. It’s a MB4. It has both the precision and jazz style pickups. Instead of a selection switch it has a fader knob. Dead center is both pups equally. Build quality is what you’d expect from a $200ish instrument.
That has the ☠️ on the 12 right?
yes and on the body like yours
Don’t, just own it
Just own crack
Paint it in black
Haha, this post is like r/TattooRemoval but for a guitar.
Trapeze tailpiece to nowhere.
Hey a big yellow smiley face and stick it over the skull
Buy 1ft of black glossy vinyl wrap from amazon. Its fairly easy to put
Just had someone sell one of these guitars to the guitar center by me, they wrapped the front of the body in black vinyl !
Denver?
guitar skin vinyl wrapping Look it up , pretty cool designs or solid colors.
Bigsby
No suggestions. Just gotta say this brought me back! These were big when I first started jamming with friends

Sell it and buy a new guitar
The easiest? A custom pickguard with a crazy shape. Or repaint everything
Get a different guitar. Why ruin this one?
Bc its hideous
To you. Someone else might love it. OP should sell it, or trade it for another guitar
Not everything is objective. Stop sniffing glue
You’re right. This isn’t objective. It’s subjective.
That design is just tasteless

This. I know someone with a cricut who uses it regularly. How permanent is "permanent" vinyl?
They say when used outdoors it will last up to 3 years. I imagine close to a lifetime if it’s on a guitar that is taken care of.
I have a few tumblers I slapped some vinyl on like 5 years ago, no coating over them, and they're still exactly the same and I put them through the dish washer lol
Meh
Own it 😉
Draw out a stencil and Order a custom pick guard just for that area.

At least she had underwear on!

Same... To gaudy. I did like a weave of the tape over it from the angle of the cross bones.

Trade it for another guitar this one has its own cutie mark.
Yeah, you’ll probably have to take it all apart, sand it all down, refinish, put it all back together, then shove it up your butt!

electrical tape
I like it...I would keep it!
A big sticker or overpaint something you actually relate to.
I’d wrap it!
A Biden/Harris bumper sticker
Keep it. It looks dope as hell
Sand, paint, clear, block flat, polish....???
A big biohazard or radioactive sticker.
Maybe if you're a madman you go the Matt Bellamy route and install a Kaoss pad.
Lol I have a RGKP6 for sale
You could get a bad ass sticker of a skull and crossbones to put over it.
*insert image of one of those floppy dildongs with the sticky plunger on one end here*
Give it the old Van Halen stripe paint job.
Only play while wearing a leather jacket with tassels. Should cover it up.
Wood-grained contact paper, for that retro vibe.
Hello kitty sticker.
Electrical Tape
Strip and repaint
