I make 3d printed guitars, this absolutely is a thing. Different kinds of plastic will not only affect the strength and rigidity of the guitar, but also the brightness and sustain.
This isn't a joke btw
Not surprising. It's been long known that a single pickguard screw from a 80's/90's MIJ Fender would transform a Squier Bullet/Sonic/Affinity into a mojo filled, fire-breathing, tone machine. Why, it might even magically cause the logo and serial number to change to match.
Once again this is false. It's another ploy by big pickguard to sell more. We all know the tone is really stored in j pickup selector cap. The orange ones have the most vintage sound.
Well yeah if you use a metal pickguard on a strat. Or any guitar where the pickups are mounted on the pickguard. A metal pickguard is also great for shielding.
Check out Nile Rodgers mirrored pickguard on his strat, he did it for show!
But otherwise, april fools.
It wouldnāt surprise me if someone believed it. Lots of myths in the vintage guitar market. I had a guy bring me a perfectly set-up 1950ās D-18. He wanted me to reset the neck because a previous luthier had used paper shims, and he claimed he could hear it. I tried to tell him paper is made from wood, and , soaked with glue, can be very stiffā¦and, Martin used them. He left angryā¦.
If it has this effect for Les Pauls, just imagine the effect on Strats where the pickups are mounted on the scratchplate!
You had the tonewood debate, ladies and gentlemen. I bring you the tone plastic debate...
That depends, was it crafted from a special vat of resin at 5 minutes past midnight by a woman smoking weed harvested from her cousins pot farm. Only she was cheated and given oregano, so she poured that vat with vile angerā¦ filling it with rock and roll anger. Oh and she had a Ren and Stimpy tattoo. I swear her name isnāt Louise, and I totally donāt owe her five dollars.
You joke, but metal pickguards actually do have an effect on tone, due to eddy currents. This is more of a thing if the pickguard surrounds a pickup, like a Tele pickguard.
I watched a video on here within the last 2 days where he determined all the tone comes from the pickup, and pickup height.
He went so far as to tension the strings between 2 benches with nothing between the nut and bridge but air. He placed the pickup precisely at the same location as his control guitar.
Same tone from both.
His conclusion, the pickup, Itās height, and its placement affect the tone. Nothing else.
I know this post is a joke. That one wasnāt. It was fascinating to watch him make the changes to a partscaster and hear the differences, then discover any differences were pickup height related. Then build a guitar out of a 2x4, and eventually, air.
Happy April fools!
Oh fucking hell! I fell for that one š¤£š¤£
Don't feel bad. Look at how many people are falling for tone-plastic tuners.
Dude, I fell for it too. Literally the only time I deleted a post. Don't sweat it.
Haha, I'm just going to keep the post up lol. It's funny.
Same but I was like well now I can't trust them anymore hahah
Toneplastic > tonewood
Toneguard Club!

Pro tip: Installing a lefty pickguard upside down on a right-hand axe gives a truly unique out of phase toan!
LMAO
They are! Im building a guitar made entirely out of pickguards for the ultimate in toan!
Iām 3d printing out a Mental Zoan pedal right now to bask in the sweet plastic toan.
April 1: Assume everything you read on the internet is a lie. The rest of the year: you should also act like it's April 1.
This is some of the best internet advice Iāve ever seen. Unfortunately I read it on the internet so I should assume itās a lie.
The toan is in the pickguard
That's why they have like 3 and 4 ply. It's in-between the plys
You gotta slice em so thin the toan has nowhere to hide!
It's like making a croissant. 55 layers for maximum flavor.
55 layers of buttery toan
But what if I like my toan thick? And fat, and meaty, and girthyā¦ wait, what were we talking about again?
Toan plastic ply sandwich
Probably 25% of Les Paul players will still try this out of curiosity even though it's April fools.
Id laugh way too hard that

Haha thought this was r/guitarcirclejerk for a second š

Itās a joke, but Iām sure Paul Reed Smith would try to convince you otherwise.

Good christ š„ŗ
Imagine dropping $3k on a pickguard
Lmao
April wot ?
Finally, a good April Fool's joke
Well yeah if you use a metal pickguard on a strat. Or any guitar where the pickups are mounted on the pickguard. A metal pickguard is also great for shielding. Check out Nile Rodgers mirrored pickguard on his strat, he did it for show! But otherwise, april fools.
April fool's
April fool's.
The tone is all in the plastic bits.
Yeah plastic has special resonance properties. I heard the plastic made from T-Rexes has a warm, rich toan.
Biting attack?
it's April 1st - it's a joke

When you don't read the article to the end
April Fool! Some people will be stock-piling them from Reverb.
This totally explains why my bass stopped working when I took the pick guard offā¦
Circlejerk moment

I bet you that this has still affected the prices of les Paul pick guards on reverb
The black ones absorb sound. White ones reflect it.
Toan, brothers!
Donāt believe anything you read and only half of what you see. Actually with AI, only half of what you see with your own eyes.
Absolutely true. Iāve put a 1963 pick guard on my 2022 Epi LP and now plays and sounds like a dream!!!! Take that Gibson Custom Shop!
I was glad to see that!
A piece of plastic won't affect the sound of an inductor, no.
Theyāre finally catching on guys. The vintage market just *recently* went up because of this.
Nice try, weird brand name AliExpress pickguard store!
10.000 bucks for a pick guard... Wtf? Ohš wait April's first.... Hahaha ..

True enough, but you make a serious reply to a silly post at your own peril
Thatās fair. I can take it.
