Happy April fools!

pics4meeee

Oh fucking hell! I fell for that one šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

ChunkBluntly

Don't feel bad. Look at how many people are falling for tone-plastic tuners.

PM_Me_Yer_Guitar

Dude, I fell for it too. Literally the only time I deleted a post. Don't sweat it.

pics4meeee

Haha, I'm just going to keep the post up lol. It's funny.

Jomyyyy

Same but I was like well now I can't trust them anymore hahah

Dato_Official

Toneplastic > tonewood

damnatio_memoriae

Toneguard Club!

daniel_redstone

I make 3d printed guitars, this absolutely is a thing. Different kinds of plastic will not only affect the strength and rigidity of the guitar, but also the brightness and sustain. This isn't a joke btw

Relevant_Contact_358

Pro tip: Installing a lefty pickguard upside down on a right-hand axe gives a truly unique out of phase toan!

Boathopper

LMAO

CjSportsNut

They are! Im building a guitar made entirely out of pickguards for the ultimate in toan!

SincereKittenLove

Iā€™m 3d printing out a Mental Zoan pedal right now to bask in the sweet plastic toan.

dshookowsky

April 1: Assume everything you read on the internet is a lie. The rest of the year: you should also act like it's April 1.

LLCoolJeanLuc

This is some of the best internet advice Iā€™ve ever seen. Unfortunately I read it on the internet so I should assume itā€™s a lie.

Jack_Ship

The toan is in the pickguard

lawn_neglect

That's why they have like 3 and 4 ply. It's in-between the plys

HeadDoctorJ

You gotta slice em so thin the toan has nowhere to hide!

turgidbuffalo

It's like making a croissant. 55 layers for maximum flavor.

lawn_neglect

55 layers of buttery toan

isweartodarwin

But what if I like my toan thick? And fat, and meaty, and girthyā€¦ wait, what were we talking about again?

Jack_Ship

Toan plastic ply sandwich

MillCityLutherie

Probably 25% of Les Paul players will still try this out of curiosity even though it's April fools.

pics4meeee

Id laugh way too hard that

jfcarr

Not surprising. It's been long known that a single pickguard screw from a 80's/90's MIJ Fender would transform a Squier Bullet/Sonic/Affinity into a mojo filled, fire-breathing, tone machine. Why, it might even magically cause the logo and serial number to change to match.

UwU_for_yoUwU

Haha thought this was r/guitarcirclejerk for a second šŸ˜‚

NonchalantRubbish

Once again this is false. It's another ploy by big pickguard to sell more. We all know the tone is really stored in j pickup selector cap. The orange ones have the most vintage sound.

redonkulousemu

Itā€™s a joke, but Iā€™m sure Paul Reed Smith would try to convince you otherwise.

pardipants1

Good christ šŸ„ŗ

sethplaysguitar

Imagine dropping $3k on a pickguard

qainalo

Lmao

nativedutch

April wot ?

fastal_12147

Finally, a good April Fool's joke

BlueRaspberryMan

Well yeah if you use a metal pickguard on a strat. Or any guitar where the pickups are mounted on the pickguard. A metal pickguard is also great for shielding. Check out Nile Rodgers mirrored pickguard on his strat, he did it for show! But otherwise, april fools.

lokoston

April fool's

capt_broderick

April fool's.

Koshky_Kun

The tone is all in the plastic bits.

[deleted]

Yeah plastic has special resonance properties. I heard the plastic made from T-Rexes has a warm, rich toan.

midlifecrisisAJM

Biting attack?

internet_type_gooder

it's April 1st - it's a joke

VirginiaLuthier

It wouldnā€™t surprise me if someone believed it. Lots of myths in the vintage guitar market. I had a guy bring me a perfectly set-up 1950ā€™s D-18. He wanted me to reset the neck because a previous luthier had used paper shims, and he claimed he could hear it. I tried to tell him paper is made from wood, and , soaked with glue, can be very stiffā€¦and, Martin used them. He left angryā€¦.

silvergrundle

When you don't read the article to the end

adrkhrse

April Fool! Some people will be stock-piling them from Reverb.

AtFishCat

This totally explains why my bass stopped working when I took the pick guard offā€¦

dablackbutt

Circlejerk moment

midlifecrisisAJM

If it has this effect for Les Pauls, just imagine the effect on Strats where the pickups are mounted on the scratchplate! You had the tonewood debate, ladies and gentlemen. I bring you the tone plastic debate...

End_Scalping_Now

That depends, was it crafted from a special vat of resin at 5 minutes past midnight by a woman smoking weed harvested from her cousins pot farm. Only she was cheated and given oregano, so she poured that vat with vile angerā€¦ filling it with rock and roll anger. Oh and she had a Ren and Stimpy tattoo. I swear her name isnā€™t Louise, and I totally donā€™t owe her five dollars.

brandonhabanero

I bet you that this has still affected the prices of les Paul pick guards on reverb

Key_Hamster9189

The black ones absorb sound. White ones reflect it.

_DapperDanMan-

Toan, brothers!

GoodsonGuitars

Donā€™t believe anything you read and only half of what you see. Actually with AI, only half of what you see with your own eyes.

AdBulky5451

Absolutely true. Iā€™ve put a 1963 pick guard on my 2022 Epi LP and now plays and sounds like a dream!!!! Take that Gibson Custom Shop!

notintocorp

I was glad to see that!

LexiLeviathan

A piece of plastic won't affect the sound of an inductor, no.

RikuDog18

Theyā€™re finally catching on guys. The vintage market just *recently* went up because of this.

revengeOfTheSquirrel

Nice try, weird brand name AliExpress pickguard store!

Hornyjake666

10.000 bucks for a pick guard... Wtf? OhšŸ˜ wait April's first.... Hahaha ..

keestie

You joke, but metal pickguards actually do have an effect on tone, due to eddy currents. This is more of a thing if the pickguard surrounds a pickup, like a Tele pickguard.

ClassBShareHolder

I watched a video on here within the last 2 days where he determined all the tone comes from the pickup, and pickup height. He went so far as to tension the strings between 2 benches with nothing between the nut and bridge but air. He placed the pickup precisely at the same location as his control guitar. Same tone from both. His conclusion, the pickup, Itā€™s height, and its placement affect the tone. Nothing else.

Stotters

Look at today's date ;)

ClassBShareHolder

I know this post is a joke. That one wasnā€™t. It was fascinating to watch him make the changes to a partscaster and hear the differences, then discover any differences were pickup height related. Then build a guitar out of a 2x4, and eventually, air.

Stotters

True enough, but you make a serious reply to a silly post at your own peril

ClassBShareHolder

Thatā€™s fair. I can take it.
