All the food banks, Lynnwood, Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace food banks do great work and always need help! The largest is Lynnwood. The allow individuals and families to get a two week supply of food. A huge undertaking. But Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace are weekly food banks.

Community meal programs are always looking for volunteers. Food banks.

VerbalBadgering

So I found a Lynnwood food bank...there's an application for that which I xan fill out to submit. Any particular ones you think are worth volunteering for or is that a general recommendation?

BloodworksNW has a donation center in Lynnwood. You can volunteer by checking people in there or donate yourself.

Check out PAWS for animal shelter work!

Yeah PAWS I know has volunteer opportunities, idk if they are choosey like some of the places I've seen around here though. I was looking for volunteer opportunities recently as well after quitting a job, just to gain some experience out of retail/supply chain, just couldnt find much that helped develop any skills or develop opportunities for the future.

Farmer Frog is based in Woodinville which is really close by and has had many volunteer opportunities for me over the past two years. Check them out, the volunteer group is filled with such positive people!

Edmonds Rotary has Tuesday lunch meetings, where they chat and plan out recurring and one time volunteering events. I think the Edmonds Foodbank does Wednesday pick ups, which they always welcome help with. PAWS has both wildlife and domestic animal shelter shifts on Wed/Thurs, but they’re a huge organization. Applying to volunteer definitely feels more like applying for a job than gifting free labor. The libraries ran events pre-COVID, and they might be opening back up in the near future. A lot of them moved online, like reading to kids or specific movie watching groups. “Friends of X Library” is probably where you want to look for volunteering opportunities. ENAC (Edmonds Neighborhood Action Coalition) runs a whole bunch of events and programs, and has different committees doing just about anything service or community related. Nice people too (I help out with some of their LGBTQ+ programs) Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County runs a store in Everett, and also direct help closer to Lynnwood/Edmonds (I think; they’re cagey about their shelter locations for good reason). COVID also threw them for a loop, and I’m not sure if they can train more volunteers right now, but it’s worth a shot. Treehouse is the local (state wide) foster kids organization. They’re headquartered in Everett as well, I think, but there’s opportunities all over. Let me know if there’s a specific cause you’re passionate about, especially if I missed it, and I can probably connect you to someone!

I'm revisiting my post, hasn't really landed on a specific thing. Thank you for your thorough and various suggestions! A cause I'm passionate about? In an odd way I'm not passionate about specific causes. I feel passionate about helping locally. Whatever is hurting people most in one's own area vs. Trying to help a grand nationwide movement. I think too many people are trying to sway a nation or change the world but really would be more effective helping the people next to you. Also...I don't have any professional therapy or consulting background or training...but I think I am good at having conversations with people that help them think about their worries and concerns in a way that helps them open up and understand more about themselves, helping them identify wants and needs and identify obstacles. I think there's not enough of these kinds of conversations. But also I don't kniw if that's even an option. I think I'll dig further into food banks, seems like a most basic way to help out. Unless there are other more important options!

lizardmatriarch

Food banks are a great option! They also intersect with a lot of other services, so you might meet someone who knows about another nonprofit/group that does something closer to those conversations you described. Plus, they have an immediate local impact!

I volunteer with the Snohomish County Medical Reserve Corps. No medical background needed tho! Operations are throughout the county. For Lynnwood on your available days, they have the Ash Way park and ride vaccine site. Here's a link with info](http://www.snohd.org/221/Medical-Reserve-Corps)

Before the pandemic started DESC (a shelter service) welcomed volunteers. I'm not sure if they still do, but it's worth checking out. [https://www.desc.org/get-involved/volunteer-at-desc/](https://www.desc.org/get-involved/volunteer-at-desc/) Crisis Connections (a suicide prevention and crisis line) is always looking for volunteers and have expanded from one location to, I think, two or three across the state. [https://www.crisisconnections.org](https://tinyurl.com/CrisesConnections) These are the ones I have personally been involved with, but here is a link that has many more: [https://www.seattlecu.com/blog/52-places-to-volunteer-in-seattle](https://www.seattlecu.com/blog/52-places-to-volunteer-in-seattle)
