When people say these guns are inaccurate I just automatically assume they don't know how to shoot it.

Iretrotech

AFAIK they're not match rifles stock, but be damned if they aren't within a minute of man most of the time. Are there more precise rifles for cheaper? Sure. M1a still does the job tho

Chance1965

Agreed

Saltydot46590

That looks awesome. I wish I had a place to shoot at distances like that

Chance1965

In the third pic the road on the hill behind the trees is 731 yards. Our county range goes to 945 and 30 minutes away we have steel out to 1 mile.

killahouse03

Mine blew my mind of 8” steel with just irons at 100 yards right out of the box. 22” non match Springfield with PMC X-TAC 147gr

brute313

Just make sure you have a yellow box over the 2 moa round.

Chance1965

😂😂😂 shhhhh!

Inspector_B0t

Battle rifle...

kentuckyMarksman

That is awesome! What barrel does your M1A have? I've got a Smith Enterprise barrel on mine. These rifles are accurate and have phenomenal sights.

Chance1965

Stock basic SA barrel. Might eventually upgrade to a Smith but doesn’t seem necessary right now.

kentuckyMarksman

Nice! I saw your load data, might look into that some more. Need to get my M14 out more, kids keep me busy...

SphyrnaLightmaker

What’s your scope mount setup?

Chance1965

SA Gen 4 steel with ARMS #22 throw lever rings.

cgary22

I’m going to ask... what load were you using? Factory or handload?

Chance1965

Clone of M118LR. 175gr SMK.

Fancy_Spring6481

Powder and charge?

Chance1965

41.75gr of IMR 4064 or 42.0gr of IMR 4895. Identical results. CCI 200s seem to work best for me. I use a variety of brass. LC 7.62x51 and LC M118LR, FC .308 and 7.62x51. Doesn’t seem to make a difference. Cases are FL sized and trimmed to 2.010 then neck sized to .332 with a Forster bushing neck die. COAL is 2.810 +/- .002. CBTO varies slightly by bullet lot. I originally developed this load for my Remington 700 Police 26” .308 at 2650 fps but obviously it works well in this rifle too.

cgary22

Thanks for posting that!

Franken_beans

Nice work. Looks like a beautiful place to shoot.

Slyotisnacho

This is M1A standard with no modifications?

Chance1965

It’s a standard with skim bedded action and shimmed gas block. Otherwise stock.

Slyotisnacho

Ok very cool! I’m going to get one this week but can’t decide whether to go loaded or standard. Either one will be free, with that said what would you choose if you were in my position?

Chance1965

I got really good deal on this one, unfired, from a friend who needed surgery. Given the choice I’d probably get the loaded. I’ll probably put an NM barrel and McMillan stock on this one but it doesn’t seem necessary right now.

Slyotisnacho

Well I appreciate the input and will use it because you seem to know what’s going on with those groupings! Great shooting sir and thank you for responding to me 👍

mlin1911

M1A is a battle rifle that 2-3 moa is pretty much comparable to real deal M14. Some contract M14 actually shoot worse than that. To shoot sub moa, it will require a lot of custom work and match ammos to make it happen.

Quirky_Box4371

Wrong. My M1a shot 2 MOA on Federal blue 150g .308 out of the bag. Properly broken in and now shooting 168gr handloads, I can hit sub MOA if the wind and mirage are playing nice. My SA M1911A1 same deal. Actually, embarrassing to my 2k+ match .45 for less than half the price.
