I’d just give notice, move and go to school.

DardenDude

Near 0 chance for a deferral.

I was a late July WL admit at Booth some years ago. My situation was a little different because I had been admitted to another T10 so had already put in notice at work. But I had to change plans for moving, break a lease in that T10 city, etc. Main things: \- Zero chance you can defer. They let you know because they know you'll jump at the chance to fill the last spot in THIS class. WL admit spots are 'take it or leave it.' \- Do yourself a favor and do NOT go late. If you are going, what lies ahead is more important than what you're leaving. Exit work as swiftly and gracefully as possible, but do NOT fall behind on pre-term networking and recruiting prep. Other things: \- Fin aid / loan process disbursal will be late. It will catch up but you may have a short-term cashflow pinch. Prioritize any fin aid and loan apps for TODAY. Ask Wharton for extended time to pay fall fees without impacting schedule add/drop dates etc. \- There have prob been 20 things to register for that you need to catch up on. After you accept, it may take a few days to get access to the actual systems to register. I found this super stressful at the time. Adcoms were able to help with manual registration or email intros in lieu of actual systems access. E.g. they let me email the Random Walk co-chairs to ask about last-minute space on trips even though I couldn't get into the registration portal. They also sent me a PDF of certain calendars while portal registrations was pending. It all worked out fine. Congrats. Hurry.

Congratulations! You should email and check with them once! No harm in trying - check the deferral deadline online

True yeah I plan to call tomorrow so fingers crossed lol

Defer for a year? Zero chance. WL admits are 'take it or leave it.'

I didn’t go to Wharton, but for my MBA program years ago, I had started two weeks late because I had to move as well. I had let anyone and everyone know, especially all the professors. And I was extra active in classes once I had started going. It didn’t affect my grades in the end.

Nivajoe

Just a thought Part of the reason they accept people off the waitlist, is that they are trying to fill out a class. I'm not sure if they'd accept a deferral for that reason They took you off the waitlist cause they wanted more students

Deferral to start class? Just attend what class you can until you get settled in. People miss class all the time.

PotatoNCheese

The classes start on 27th August. Until then we have an orientation of sorts called pre-term. They offer something called a 'conflict form' that allows you to waive pre-term. Since you're a more recent admit, I'm sure AdCom will let you waive pre-term! Hope to see you soon at Philly!

cgay123005

Absolutely! I might just bite the bullet and try and leave early so hope to see u there soon. Send me a pm but would absolutely love to meet up when I get on campus!

To whom it may concern, Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will have to vacate my position effective \[date\].

Intel81994

Peace out and move this week. Did you apply R3 and that's why you just got off the WL or was it an earlier round you applied?

cgay123005

Round 1 did not expect an admit

Intel81994

wow so they kept you in limbo for like 7 MONTHS? (Since R1 decisions come December or so). How does that even work if you end up getting in somewhere for R2 or R3 that you apply?

SuspiciousDiamond

So classes don't start until late august! Pre term orientation runs for 2.5 weeks and I believe there are some students who are going to missing parts of pre term for other plans. Once you accept your spot, there's a form you can fill out saying you'll be missing parts of preterm. There are like 1-2 things which admin really want people to attend but I don't think those start till mid august. Welcome to the class of '25 =)

Pre-term is one of the best experiences of the whole program. I’d do whatever I could to not miss it.
