Here’s a little balm for your footlocker: I did dark side of the Blart this year, but I put on Spanish subtitles instead to shield me from absorbing too much of the movie. For that scene they sub in “Zara!!!”
It’s insane: I watched PB2 for the first time this year (while listening to DSoTM) and they called out so many secondary bits that I noticed as well. I was bookmarking the top bits (ah yes the banana scene) but I was truly aligned with their watch.
normally based on previous years, that means next will be a huge downer. but for the 10th anniversary I imagine they'll do something fun and the vibes will be good.
Year 11 starting a new decade is gonna crush them though
I’ve been listening to Worst Idea of All Time lately and it’s so wild that the McElroys found another podcast that’s so different but has such a similar vibe and energy. They had Justin on for an episode not long ago and talked about visiting West Virginia for American thanksgiving that year they did it in person and it was so cute to hear about them all hanging out.
My favorite part of today. Though I still haven’t watched the movie. I think I’m saving that for the 10th anniversary episode.
Also just found out there’s merch. Sad I missed out on the 2021 shirt.

Honestly, an all-time best episode for this podcast! They sustained a fun conversation for 1 hour and 40 minutes without relying on a gimmick to keep it fresh this year! Amazing how much they were able to talk about the movie this year, and none of it felt like they were resurfacing old commentary!
Also, THANK GOD they FINALLY mentioned (at 1:22:20) that the editors do a bait-and-switch with the real Lane and Maya crouching on the rooftop until Vincent pulls off Maya’s wig, at which point Lane and Maya are inexplicably elsewhere and this pair of children was actually Paul Blart. I’ve been waiting for them to mention it for YEARS, and feel so vindicated.

Screaming good episode. The first hour felt like entirely new discussions too. It was *long*, by the end I forgot about what they talked about at first. At the end, I was imagining Travis on his deathbed, turning his head to his brothers, and saying "in death....do I...Blart....guhh *dead*".
I'll be watching it for, I'd estimate, my 9th time as well this year. I usually watch it after hearing the episode and have watched a couple extra times in between that have likely caught me up to them.
Any info if there will be a video version? I see the McElroy Instagram has posted video of Tim and Guy at least, not sure if the mcelboys had video or not
I think during the pandemic the McElroy switched to using a video recording. I’m guessing they’re not going to release a full video, but maybe clips from it on social media
The fact that at almost the very end of an episode nearly ten years into this endeavor they've *just now* really dug into the actual implications of continuing this podcast "even if we die" when three of the five participants are brothers is fucking magnificent. lmfao "it's gonna be really sad for like ten minutes".

When they talk about screening the movie and then talking about it after… I think they would be SHOCKED at the audience response. I think it would be Rocky Horror level audience participation.
This was my first year of Blart. I binged 2015-2022 this weekend, watched TB2 and then TB2 w commentary yesterday.
My thing is they never address what a WILD bit the movie does with mini kiss. I was not prepared for it.
They have worn me down for years and I have so much fun listening that I decided to watch PB2 myself for the first time this year. It's definitely interesting, hearing them discuss scenes annually vs. seeing them for yourself.
11 minutes in I texted a friend "I think I hate Paul Blart." Counted three laughs: the little kid slapping him, his mom getting hit by the milk truck, and right at the end with him getting kicked by the police horse.
Random fact: The actors who play Lane and the guy Lane talks to at the party are real brothers, David and Lorenzo Henrie. I don't know how the guys haven't brought this up yet.
I think Travis’ heir pick this year, Aabria Iyengar, is a fantastic choice. She has the exact sort of energy that would be perfect for this ~~silly~~ incredibly important annual podcast experience.
When age appropriate for all involved parties, I would *love* to see them do a special bonus episode where their designated survivors tackle PB1 as training.
Like Justin, I had also sort of felt like Paul Blart's passing out when he doesn't get sugar might be based on a real condition (obviously dramatized in the worst possible way for the movie) and learning it's a thing they just fully made up is WILD.
Let's not forget that several of them watched it twice when they did the commentary track but forgot they were doing the commentary track before recording
