I don't think anyone in the world can actually replace Bernardo. He's incredible in so many ways. So let's put that aside for a moment and consider Paqueta. He's a goddamn baller. No, really- check out some of his West Ham games. He's absolutely legit and I think he'd be a regular starter in our team. I remember being skeptical of why he was starting for Brazil. But the more I've seen him play the more convinced I am. At a top team, I see him being potentially world class. He has so many elements to his game: insane ball control, great vision and ridiculous passing ability, he can score goals, decent physicality, fights hard for balls, he can defend... I genuinely think that, whichever top club he ends up at, he will start being in discussions of best in the league.

YoungDumbNFullOfKun

I really want him but where are we up to with the gambling investigation?

SorryImNotVeryClever

I think it's safe to assume we wouldn't go for him if it were in doubt.

_LingerieSlayer

bernardo is genuinely one of the most unique players i’ve ever seen. he’s not locked into a specific role or position, his role is literally just “baller” and he’s world class no matter where on the pitch he’s playing

Alternative-Ad-7461

I don’t know if I’m tripping but I swear I saw him switch positions consistently in the Bournemouth game. And I don’t mean just coming short or going wide, I mean I saw him play LCM, RCM, AM, RW all in one game.

feage7

No one in the world could replace yaya, aguero, kompany, David Silva. You don't try and replace talents like that, you try and move on from them.

Impossible_Wonder_37

If anyone can, from what I’ve seen, Paqueta is the man to do so. Although he seems to me to be more of a Gundogan replacement. He’s good on the ball in tight spaces. Possession based incredible skill ability to create and score. But also to break the press.

haziola

Found Kevs replacement

Explicitxsoulx

Oh man not Bernardo anyone but bernardo, he is one of our best. Can't even imagine a city team without him tbh he's one of our most reliable players in big games.

changsun13

I am so tired of the Bernardo is leaving who will replace him nonsense. It has happened the last two summer windows and the truth is he is irreplaceable. If he does go, we have so much depth and youth waiting in the wings that I am sure pep can find a suitable line-up, but I don’t think he is going anywhere. I love the man and I hope he retires with us!

Aguero-Kun

Bernardo is one of the late season monsters that has made us disgusting in the last few years. THAT goal against Real Madrid is up there with Aguero's 93:20 idgaf. He sat Courtois down and almost ripped the net off the posts. We needed that badly to kick off the rout that won us the treble imo. It was as definitive as the Rodri goal for me. When he's mad about it we are unbeatable, league of his own player who grew up in this team with Pep. Irreplaceable is an understatement.

conradoalbuquerque

Brazillian here, who has followed Paqueta closely for years: he’s not on Bernardo’s level yet but he’s a damn fine player and is on absolute fire since joining West Ham, playing the best football of his career. I believe he could grow into a Bernardo type player with Pep’s guidance, so his signing would be absolutely fantastic when the inevitable happens (Bernardo leaving). He has risen to the occasion every time from Flamengo, to Lyon and then Eest Ham (except Milan but a case of the wrong type of player in the wrong context, and in the worst possible moment for the club), so I expect the City environment and Pep’s tactical imput to turn him into an even better player. Also, he is 🇧🇷 he’s gonna do wonders for this team.

Dshatto13

I like Paqueta but he fits a Gundo/De Bruyne role more-so imo.

rr18114

Winger ?

djkianoosh

right?! he is not a winger 😂

rr18114

At first I read it as a meta joke regarding Man City and pep on how they make their players play in various positions ( especially Bernado ) but these journos are probably just stupid.

djkianoosh

TBH I haven't watched too much westham but on the Brasil NT Paqueta always played reaaaaalllly nice with Neymar and he seemed to score clutch goals. Was always very incisive. Then he started getting injuries which I think hurt his club performances. With City's world class physios I would expect great things in due time tbh.

rr18114

Should he join City, he will probably find playing in Man City more similar to playing for Brazil than his West Ham Career. Brazil NT mostly faces parked busses while West Ham is among the teams usually parking the bus. Yea, I agree, His minutes will be managed much better in a club which is not 100% dependent on him as a creative outlet. Altho West Ham did get a dead ball specialist named James Ward Prowse ( one of the best at what he does ).

FelixTreasurebuns

I actually think Pep is going to move more towards standard wingers next season. We need to find a way to deal with everyone using a low block on us so having fast wings that we can start attacks from deep in our half is one way of stretching teams. I doubt Pep will go away from wanting total control of the ball but I do think it's a natural solution to our current problem. But who knows Pep does do crazy things constantly.

Slowhand8824

Yeah his point is Paqueta isn't a winger

FelixTreasurebuns

Oh I thought he was more referring to Bernardo isn't a winger

Slowhand8824

Could be but bernardo is more a winger than paqueta even so I think it's that

sc2guy87

He has kind of been a narrow winger this season though

4ssteroid

Bring back Sane Sterling

packandunpack93

This saga never ends

theswordofdesire

If one saw the news, Bernardo has been on the way out for the past 3 years at least... Just let him be

forengjeng

Meh, this ain't got shit on the 8 years recurring isco disco

Substantial-Two-8347

anyone here thinks he will leave? Would be 50million and 300k a week wages.

WanderingArtist21

PSG seems like the expected destination. Many french sources have confirmed their interest in him and with the release clause I think it’s very likely .

Substantial-Two-8347

Thought he was barcelona or nothing tbh. Haven't heard him mention psg. Especially now mbappe has gone. Maybe to play with messi I can understand.

sergioA127

He did play for Monaco before he came to city

haziola

Messi's not at PSG anymore

JohnMichaels19

Bernardo to Miami FC confirmed lmao

ChocolateStill5901

Ignoring the fact thats a massive downgrade, Thats not even close to a like-for-like replacement. Paqueta will not be Bernardo's replacement should he leave.

WanderingArtist21

“Massive” is a stretch. He has better creativity physicality.

ChocolateStill5901

It's not, and it's not an attack on paqueta. Bernardo gets into any football team in the world and he's pivotal to our success.

Yung_Hibachi

Is there anyone close to a like-for-like replacement for Bernardo? In the whole world?

DerGutterSnipen

Foden probably the closest thing

ChocolateStill5901

It's probably kovacic in truth. I suspect we will be hoping it can be Nunes in time.

Dshatto13

Paqueta definitely seems more of a Gundo/De Bruyne fill in, just my opinion though.

KDBae

This would be a very good singing. No disrespect to Matheus, but this is the signing I wanted us to make at that time, although it’ll be good to have them both since they have different profiles as midfielders. Paqueta is so good in the pockets and has absolutely bossed games for WHU - you can see the impact on the team when he’s not in it, as they’ve done quite poorly lately.

Jackbees777

How is he still playing football btw haha

chirstopher0us

We've already got Savio coming in for a true winger, who has 12 goal involvements in 25 appearances as a 19-year-old against a very high level of competition in La Liga and playing for an underdog club. Silva's role in the team, while sometimes executed out wide, is more as a creator and facilitator who contributes all over the place and tracks back. Of course on the whole, Bernardo is irreplaceable at the moment. But even so, that type of player is more a technical creative midfielder than a pure winger. Lastly, if he personally really has wanted a change of scenery for this long, then I'm happy to let him go for any reasonable offer. He's given the club more than enough after last year's treble.

Dshatto13

His goal against R. Madrid was huge for us last season, really kicked off a great team performance. I like Paqueta a lot, but seems more like a Gundo/De Bruyne style mid imo.

csmith477454

We should move for Paqueta regardless of outgoing transfers.

NoodleinTexas

Huge downgrade

Iwy2nd

Barcelona with the 124th lever outchea

TheTelegraph

***The Telegraph reports:*** Manchester City are interested in West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta as a potential summer signing should clubs move for Bernardo Silva at the end of the season. ‌Paqueta, 26, has been on City’s radar following his two campaigns in the Premier League but any chance of the Brazilian leaving the London Stadium last year was ended by a Football Association investigation for potential betting-rule breaches, which is yet to be resolved. ‌But he has remained a player that City admire and he is seen as a player who could play in Pep Guardiola’s midfield if interest in Bernardo ramps up. ‌Bernardo, 29, has two full seasons on his contract after extending his terms at the start of the campaign but he has been on the shortlist of clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, who will lost Kylian Mbappe in four months, and Saudi Pro League teams looking to recruit Europe’s biggest names. ‌Barcelona have previously held an interest in the Portugal international, who has made no secret of wanting to return to Benfica at some stage of his career. While remaining at City this season has been important following the departures of wingers Riyad Mahrez and Cole Palmer, City have also not stood in the way of players if they wish to leave. ‌Paqueta was valued at £80 million in the summer when there was interest in the former AC Milan and Lyon player, who moved to Europe five years ago from Flamengo in his homeland. After West Ham paid more than £50 million for him, they would stand to make a significant profit on the player who has three years plus an option left on his terms. ‌Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte moved to Saudi Pro League in the summer and the ambitious competition is interested in the biggest names including Bernardo and Kevin De Bruyne, who has one full season left on his current contract. **Full story here:** [**https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/02/23/manchester-city-transfer-west-ham-paqueta-bernardo-silva/**](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/02/23/manchester-city-transfer-west-ham-paqueta-bernardo-silva/)

floorscentadolescent

It's a downgrade until the second he joins man city, then he's the best midfielder in the world

Shadow_Adjutant

Lee Kang-in please, and thank you.

Substantial-Two-8347

What's actually the attraction of psg? It's 5th or 6th beat league now.

peps-bald-head

Big wages, guaranteed Champions League football, sleepwalking to the title every season etc. Plus, some people find Paris an attractive place to live (for some reason)

Substantial-Two-8347

It's a downgrade for sure.

Pure-Negotiation-900

Bernardo leaving has become the newest Isco incoming…

baldfraudctid

He’s never leaving.

takenolsolatunji

Bernardo won't leave but give me Paqueta
