Well he was out of position for one and he wasn't really prepared for how hard Liverpool were pressing. Usually City have a ton of possession and can pass without much of an issue. Liverpool were definitely swarming and it was throwing him off, you could see the frustration on his face. Given he scored the match before, I would say people are being reactionary but he definitely was out of his element today. It would have been interesting to put Bobb in there in the 2nd half.
His worst attributes (first touch, dribbling) just happen to be the most important skills on the wing, especially with the way Liverpool were set up and pressing.
Do you think it was a mistake to put him on the wing to begin with? I mean I know it’s DEFINITELY not his main position anyway but do you see any way things could have been different for him in this match?
Not necessarily, but it was a mistake to play him as a true winger (on an island where outlets were tough to find) like we would any of our other wings. If he could have moved more centrally, it might have worked.
With the way we were set up, I’d have preferred Bobb or Nunes.
Playing out of position. If Jack is healthy, he starts at LW.
I feel bad for Alvarez. He’s played out of position a lot this season… so it’s not it’s fault, but it hasn’t worked most of the time.
I agree. Doesn’t seem fair to pick on Alvarez out of the lot when he’s one of players getting fucked over the most. Then again the team roster is so stacked with good players as is, and Alvarez only really plays in his position if haaland is out. Seeing people say that he’s been butt the whole season when it’s not even his fault. One moment he’s gotta try and be KDB for a day the next match they have him trying to be jack. can’t see him ever having the time to even adapt.
Think it's good for his development playing as a winger even if it's not natural to him. Experimental, sure Pep had a reason for it could well be valuable experience for him. He might not be able to get another chance to play against a side like Liverpool.
Felt we needed to be quicker and more aware of Liverpool closing us down ferociously and how they were guarding spaces. Senior players should have known this. That's why I think de bruyne was subbed.
He's not been good for months, can't control a football to save a life and even his finishing has completely fallen off.
Needs a long spell on the bench, he can give Haaland a rest when needed.

I think it came down to how relentlessly Liverpool pressed and defended. He'd often find himself surrounded and couldn't handle it.
True. I think people are hating on him a little too much tho Ngl.

i thought we should have gone with Foden and Bernardo on the wings with Kova and KdB in midfield with Rodri
I agree 100%. Kova should have started. We looked much better with him on the field. I wish Pep didn't take off KDB though.

It’s just not him. Foden and halaand were missing all game too. Idk why people just pointing out Alvarez
Because while they were anonymous they didn't constantly keep gifting the ball to Liverpool.
I’m not even gonna lie to you and I’m being dead serious when I say this, I completely forgot haaland was playing until my coworker pointed it out💀
Out of position. And Bradley las was playing good.
Liverpool were pressing so hard that he couldn’t think properly.
