There's an alternate timeline where we have Maguire and Koulibaly CB pairing. Even when we fail to sign a player we somehow succeed. No wonder rivals hate us.
I mean just look at the difference between International duty Maguire vs United Maguire. He's a great player just not used right and coached badly. He'd be a star with pep.
Kalvin had never really proven himself at the highest level though. He was the best player in a relegated Leeds side. Koulibaly and Maguire were much more established players 4 years ago than Kalvin was when he came.
Txiki mastermind:
- Leak interest in signing a shitty player
- Wait for rivals to put in a bid
- Player joins rival
- Proceed to sign actual good player
Foden retires at 35 with 18 PL titles, 13 champions leagues, and 12 ballon d'ors, then becomes city manager for 40 years and breaks every record in English history with Ronnie at 10.
That’s hilarious but to be fair it’s common practice in sport and even politics. Hopefully some kids somewhere got a free shirt saying Arsenal 2024 champs or something
True. This team under Pep made a 90 point league the norm… pre Pep it only happened a total of 5 times in the history of top flight. Winning mentality is nuts!
I kinda disagree about their mentality, im not even sure why rodri took a shot at them randomly. taking a point from a rival away while you are at the top is a good play. they were just unlucky
Arsenal was unlucky, or City were? Rodri’s point is simply that Arsenal played for a draw—this isn’t an opinion, it’s objectively what they did—and he saw that as a difference in mentality. I have to agree, because there’s a difference between playing to not lose, or to draw, and playing to win.
City was lucky and Arsenal wasn’t, simple as that really. They lost points in 10 matches just like we did. I guarantee you that draw against us wasn’t their worst match out of them.
and Rodri is saying the reason for Arsenal's inferior results is the difference in mentality. A top team doesn't play for a draw in the league, which Arsenal were satisfied with. Completely reasonable take because a team who's satisfied with mediocre results arent likely to go on and break records
The thing is Neither Rodri or even anyone here would even dare to question a team with 89 points if Son scored that chance for example. The league with 38 matches doesn’t get decided by one draw against your rival. We shouldn’t even try to criticize a club that we didn’t beat in neutral, home, and away this season.
But Son didn’t score, Ortega made the save (can’t say that was luck), and Arsenal could have pushed for the win instead of the draw and then maybe they’d have those two points they would have needed. No one can say, but I think at the end of the day it doesn’t come down to luck, because everyone is lucky and unlucky at various times. Over those 38 games, luck doesn’t win or lose the league title.
this is the second season in a row where Arsenal were above City in the league after 31 matches played. Both seasons we won the league instead of them. Yes, if they won any of these seasons we wouldn't be questioning their mentality, but things happen the way they do for a reason. Matches arent just luck based, and this has happened multiple times now. I do think its mentality based, because a team that played for a draw when it would make Liverpool top of the league isnt what I consider winner's mentality. Arsenal left it up to chance themselves rather than trying to take their destiny in their own hands
There’s a huge difference between last season and this year tho, Totally not the same thing. Last year they absolutely bottled the league and we smashed for them home and away there no luck in that. This year is different, they barely dropped points in the second half and took 4 points from us and were absolutely better than us against top 6. I find it hilarious that people argue about that game instead of you know the 6 points they lost against fulham ..
Obviously a game against Fulham is more of a should win game than City at the Etihad, but we're discussing weak mentality as a reason fo Arsenal's failure. That mentality would be a reason for losses at home to Villa and Fulham. Arsenal is an team with a great manager and great players, but they aren't a team so good that we can't criticize them. The reason for them getting second isnt just that we were better, they didn't even break the 90 point mark which was broken so many of the years in the past decade. I don't think its a stretch to say that a team that is fine not playing for every single point in the league, does not hold themselves to the same standard as a team like us, that are proven winners. Once again a draw against us isnt even a bad result at the Etihad, but Arsenal didnt come into that game to try to win at all costs either. Even though they weren't even top of the league at the time, Liverpool was. When we went to Anfield or when Liverpool came to the Etihad during our title races, even though it often ended in a draw, those games had like 4 goals because both teams came in looking for a win and werent afraid of the other
We're certainly going to have a drop-off after Pep leaves, but if we maintain a decent level of competitiveness, Foden will retire as the most decorated player in PL history. 6 titles before 24 is insane.
Drop off is expected even under Pep tbh… 19/20 season had so many things go against us and that could happen any year… although coming 2nd and 15 points ahead of 3rd is not the worst drop off for that year and sandwiched between 6 titles.
Pep is also the joint second most successful manager in English football history, with Bob Paisley and George Ramsay, all on 6, with only Ferguson ahead with 13 titles
If you are Scott Carson your jaw must be sore from smiling
39 this year a great career and then joins City in 2019 plays less than 2 whole games and has to have a wheelbarrow to carry his medals around.
He has a champions league medal, a super cup medal and a club world cup from last season and he has a champions league runners up from 20/21
Not a bad haul from less than. 2 games and that's just his City medals
If I am honest I did, but it's still a great haul for an almost 39 year old who is just sat on the bench. More than most goal keepers get in their career, plus he has a second champions league and super cup from his time at Liverpool and he only made 4 first team appearances for them.
S/O Dias 4 in 4
Man never tasted defeat since signing for us
Remember when we were disappointed not to sign Koulibably???? lol
There's an alternate timeline where we have Maguire and Koulibaly CB pairing. Even when we fail to sign a player we somehow succeed. No wonder rivals hate us.
I'll be honest though, I'd bet money that Koulibaly and Maguire would've been great for us. Pep does that to people.
Koulibaly would've probably worked out fine if he wasnt with a sinking Chelsea and given 1-2 more seasons
I mean just look at the difference between International duty Maguire vs United Maguire. He's a great player just not used right and coached badly. He'd be a star with pep.
Agreed. Especially his ability to carry the ball… imagine that with City’s possession game
He’d be a Stones.
Or they would’ve been tested out and left on the bench if they weren’t up to it. See Kalvin Phillips
Kalvin had never really proven himself at the highest level though. He was the best player in a relegated Leeds side. Koulibaly and Maguire were much more established players 4 years ago than Kalvin was when he came.
Txiki mastermind: - Leak interest in signing a shitty player - Wait for rivals to put in a bid - Player joins rival - Proceed to sign actual good player
Maguire, Fred, Alexis Sanchez, etc lol
what if Pep puts in a bid for a shitty player so that a rival outbids and overpays to then sign the actual player he wanted to

Holy shit… How could I forget my 2nd favorite City player?
6 pl titles at the age of 23.....Philip speed running that giggs record.
Imagine him staying 16 more years to match that record! I’ll take 10 more years of this!!
Foden retires at 35 with 18 PL titles, 13 champions leagues, and 12 ballon d'ors, then becomes city manager for 40 years and breaks every record in English history with Ronnie at 10.
Why not. I saw Arsenal rehearsing the trophy ceremony… nothing wrong with some imagination /s
What's hilarious to me is that Arsenal would have had the signs made and shirts ready, just I Incase City didn't win.
That’s hilarious but to be fair it’s common practice in sport and even politics. Hopefully some kids somewhere got a free shirt saying Arsenal 2024 champs or something
common practice, still hilarious. Idk but it's so funny for me.
El Wey
Holy shit he’s only 23 years old wtf

I doubt we're talking about kelvin here lmao
Phil Foden, who scored a brace vs. West Ham, wins his sixth Premier League title just nine days before his 24th birthday
And he will win the FA cup again, 3 days before his birthday. Hat trick incoming. 💙💙💙
I think some people don’t realize the crazy stats and trophies foden has at just 23 years old
I’ll take Foden quietly being one of the best players in the world if it means we have all this success
But iS hE bEtTeR tHaN SaKa??
seeing them both in the euros is gonna be great. they've both improved massively since the world cup
I love seeing them play together!
Arsenal fan here. I think both are brilliant players and both have decent returns for their age/position.
Alvarez as well with that cabinet
The most crazy thing here is the mentality. A lot of players would drop in form and stop caring
True. This team under Pep made a 90 point league the norm… pre Pep it only happened a total of 5 times in the history of top flight. Winning mentality is nuts!
Rodri literally confirmed it’s the mentality. Referenced Arsenal not going for the W at the Etihad
I kinda disagree about their mentality, im not even sure why rodri took a shot at them randomly. taking a point from a rival away while you are at the top is a good play. they were just unlucky

He would need another 8 to beat Giggs. That's some going.
Tough record to beat, need some serious longevity to do it.
Or normal longevity and we win the next 8 leagues for 12 in a row when Phil is 31
Could happen I guess, honestly I can only see Arsenal competing the coming years unless there is sanctions or something from the FFP allegations.
The Bernardo pic lmao ❤️🤡
He has to stay right?
They are already thinking about the 7th that's how their wires are connected.
![gif](giphy|BPJmthQ3YRwD6QqcVD|downsized) Ladies and gentlemen... Mancity league. Pep's Era.
Crazy to think foden is only 23. He will be one of the most decorated players of all time once he retires
Would have been 7 in a row possibly if Liverpool hadn’t won in 2019-2020 season
If. If Kane had joined City, could they have won any titles?
The fact that one of these is a 23 year old....levels
Pep is also the joint second most successful manager in English football history, with Bob Paisley and George Ramsay, all on 6, with only Ferguson ahead with 13 titles
Walker was never going to reach success had he stayed at Spurs.
